That 1999 playoffs was one of the greatest experiences ive ever had as a sports fan. To see my beloved knicks shock people and beat miami, sweep atlanta and then beat the pacers. Those 2 months will forever be in my heart.
Amazing moment. I was at that game. Incredible. I still get chills watching this. We all erupted at the same time. Absolute pandemonium!!! I was hugging people I didn't know. No one cared. It was a huge shot. Outside in the street the cops were doing the LJ and giving everyone high fives. Greatest sports moment of my life. Never forget it. 23 years ago today. Damn!!!!
It was the most incredible comeback in NBA history, the only 4 point play that has decided a game ,I am from Brazil and I watched that game and I will not ever forget it in my entire life ,I always was a Knicks fan since 1984 when a Brazilian tv broadcasted a NBA game and since then I became a Knicks fan, thanks a lot Big L and the whole teamates
Wow! I remember this... I was 7 years old *I'm a Celtics fan* and my dad is a Knicks fan. And when Larry Johnson took that shot and then made it, he went nuts! jumping of excitement! haha great moment.
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm a HUGE NY sports fan, btu I don't think I've ever loved a team as much as I loved the 90's Knicks, especially the teams from 1992-1996
We’ll never see another Knick team like this. A hard nose, heart filled, and physical defensive team ever. I survived the 90’s Knick teams! It’s a shame we couldn’t win a championship. Ewing, Starks, Oakley and the fans deserved one. I was fortunate enough to have season tickets for that era. I’ll never get over trading away our heart and soul of the team Oakley for an injury prone toothpick Camby.
99 will always be a Knicks fan most amazing year!! We had H20 with that running jumper to beat the Hated Heat!!! and LJ 4 point play and Ewing playing his ass off with that hurt achillies till it ruptured!!! I know we went out in 5 against the Spurs but it will be a run and memories i will always remember!!!! Love my 99KNICKS!!!!
... impressive praise by Allan Houston and Jeff Van Gundy about Larry Johnson. I never knew that he played such a central role in that team's chemistry and cohesiveness.
I still remember where I was. This game was on my bday. I was at the mall in foot locker. About 10 of us around the tv. When he hit that the store went nuts. One of my fav sport plays of all time.
These were my knicks that I loved, and LJ was my favorite, back when the NBA was a mans game, needless to say LJ was so underrated he carried that 98-99 team
I was pretty young when I saw this, probably around 12. I was at a BBQ with my family. Everyone at the party was inside watching the game, going nuts. All the hot dogs got burnt.
I miss the old days of basketball. I was only about 12 or 13 when LJ hit the shot and is still my biggest sports memory of all time. Why can't the NBA be like it was...tough competition throughout the league, players with class and heart...it has lost all the greatness it use to have.
i watched this on TV and i just remember what everyone else remembers and its the top view of the Garden and the crowd BLOWING up literally. i hated the pacers, so when this happened, oh my god, i got chills, i was yelling, jumping up and down. its was one of the best memories of all my years of playing and watching basketball.
For those who don't understand why people like sports and get so connected and hooked on teams, well those people just need to watch this and I think all misunderstandings will be clarified. When that moment happened time stood still. All who were watching were transported away from reality and just became a part of a single moment in time when nothing else mattered but that exact moment, Knicks fan or not.
To this day i still love that play. I remember watching that game at a friend's place and jumping up same as the crowd at MSG. Loved the Knicks so much back in the 90's you know.
Great, great team and unforgettable moment. I was disappointed that the mayor of NYC didn't give '99 Knicks a parade. I think they really deserve it even after they lost the finals. All he cared about were his freakin' Yanks. The tremendous battle, hard work and camaraderie was one the best!
I was at this game as a child. I was 12, sitting in section 346, my dad told me lets go near the exit to start beating traffic but we'll watch the end from there. I said whatever fine, there was alot of people doing this as well. He made the shot and it was the most insane thing I had ever been apart on, strangers were hugging and high 5'ving after the game people were running outside the garden screaming LJ!! It was the best game I had ever been to.
The crowd shot from above is one of the greatest images ever. I cried we had a party & not only were my friends & I screaming but when u hear the neighbors on both sides if the house screaming had chills. This was an 8th seed that went to the finals without ewing who got badly hurt during the second round. I do think they were not really an 8th seed bc of the shorter season.
That's one of the worse calls ever. Had he fouled him, do you think he would have made that shot from that distance. It's over and there's no actual way of knowing how it would have ended w/o the home court call. That's the NBA though!!!
The Best Basketball moment in MSG History! #1 LJ's 4 Point Play #2 Willis Reed playing in Game 7 of '70 Finals #3 Ewing's Tip Dunk in Game 7 of '94 ECF #4 Reggie's 8 Points in a few seconds in Game 1 of '95 ECSF #5 Jordans dunk on Ewing in the '91 ECQF I could write on forever but they're the moments that stick in my mind from the Garden.
Not only did the whole garden erupt but my whole block in Bensonhurst Brooklyn erupted when he hit that shot, LJ was the fuckin man and when he threw up the L it was like a huge FUCK YOU to Indiana, we love u LJ!!!!!
bro, when we lost GM Ernie Grunfeld, we began to lose the Knicks that would consistently go deep & be a threat in the playoffs, 1 & 2 seeded. he put that entire franchise together almost single-handedly, from Ewing in '85 onward.
im a knick fan, and after all these years i can finally admit that he didn't get fouled on that three, I can't believe the refs gave us the game haha. thanks referees!!!!
... you mean to the Finals. The degree of difficulty of Miller's famous threes indeed proved greater, but, hey, L.J. sank the shot of his career in that game.
I’m a lakers fan but this season there was something about the knicks that caught my attention the rivalries of heat and Indiana. And second ever 8 seed to ever beat a 1st seed lol.
Im a die hard Pacer Fan and I'll give you the W and the respect for the clutch shot. But, you all know the foul was on the ground. The whistle came late, and the crowd and team went nuts, so at that point you aren't going to come in and say no basket. They didn't even go on to win a championship, so at least man up and admit the refs blew that call. Oh wait, wasn't one of the refs that Donaghy guy?
@@wuliwei6939 What does "let it go mean"? We're all supposed to not notice it or not talk about it? This is a video about the shot and we're in the comments section. It was a terrible call.
4-4-4-4 4 secs remaining: Allan Houston made a miracle shot! HEAT in dismay 4 game sweep: KNICKS sweep the HAWKS 4 point play: LJ behind the arc and get fouled. 4 game win: SPURS win 4 games in NBA Final vs. KNICKS
Never seen anything like it. The Garden never reacted in that fashion to anything not even when the Rangers won the cup in 1994 after 54 years of waiting and considering how that place can rock and roll that is saying a lot.
LJ’s 4 point play was crazy and probably one of the best game ending wins. You couldn’t hear yourself think at MSG after LJ’s 3 point shot followed by a foul. Reggie go choke on this.
One of the most chill inducing moments ever . I love the shot of the crowd in the garden going nuts they went to the finals I felt so bad Ewing was out . They might have won it all in 99 but without ewing against the twin towers duncanville & Robinson
LJ, Houston, Camby & my favorite Knick of all time SPREWELL. I still have his champion jersey and it fits lol. God those were the teams. 90's Knicks were all heart and D. Alot of the 90's nba teams were cool. Suns and Barkley and KJ, Sonics Rainman and The Glove. Hornets LJ,ZO, Muggsy. Cool teams. Today's NBA is about the 3 with no defense. Today's players wouldnt last a second playing against 90 NBA team like The Pacers with the Davis brothers or Knicks with Oakley & Mase & Xman. Come on you guys are wimps. I'm talking to you lebron lebaby. Jordan got his ass kicked by the bad boys for years when he was younger until he beat them. Jordan took a beating got his revenge. Lebron would complain like Luka another baby.
I'm Larry Johnson's biggest fan and this video is awesome!!! Can you please tell me where this video clip came from? Can I buy this somewhere or was this shown on TV...? By far one of the best shots in NBA playoff history! Patrick Ljbiggestfan2
I think Matthew Modine means to say the 2nd most improbable play behind Reggie Miller's 8 points in 7 seconds. That one easily trumps the gift that official gave Larry Johnson. If you don't agree just read Bill Simmons column at espn.com, "Footnote NBA Titles". The only contact on that play came clearly before Larry Johnson shot the ball and even then its questionable at best.
does anyone have a video of the LJ's four point play game. The Pacers and Knicks 1999. Please let me know I love LJ, and that was one of LJ's greatest games
i was there for starks dunk and the the 4 pt play. the 4 pt play was crazier!!!!! I wasn't there for the ewing put back dunk but i wish i was. I love patrick ewing
Knicks beat the Pacers in '93, '94 and '99 playoffs. Pacers beat knicks in ;95, '98, '00. Seems pretty even to me.... Also in the 90s: Knicks: 2 Eastern Conference Titles, Pacers: 1
I mean. Probably it's because Industry took over passion. 82 games a year + playoffs. Every year since...I forgot 1950? Obviously, even I got bored...or rather fed up.
Sucks man, I don't know if The Knicks would've beaten The Spurs anyway, but if Ewing was healthy it definitely would've went more than 5 games. Can't tell you how sweet it was to beat Miami in 1999, especially after we got fucked hard in 1997
Dude...As a Pacer Fan I can understand your pain when this happened but at the same time he was fouled clearly in the arm as he was in motion before he started to shoot. Its called continuation and what really happened was it was a late whistle

It's a good thing because they haven't done anything since.
One of the best NBA moments of the 90s
@angelaalay Agreed! I loved our hard nosed physical defensive play.
Amazing moment. I was at that game. Incredible. I still get chills watching this. We all erupted at the same time. Absolute pandemonium!!! I was hugging people I didn't know. No one cared. Much like Starks' dunk, I get chills everytime I see that crowd jump up in the air. There is no better building in The NBA than The Garden
It was the most incredible comeback in NBA history, the only 4 point play that has decided a game ,I am from Brazil and I watched that game and I will not ever forget it in my entire life ,I always was a Knicks fan since 1984 when a Brazilian tv broadcasted a NBA game and since then I became a Knicks fan, thanks a lot Big L and the whole teamates

never had goosebumps for 8 minutes before, sweet LJ
In the 90's, every Knicks vs Heat playoff game had the same intensity level as a NBA finals game 7. This shot was epic!!!!!!!
pls tell me who u feel was the most elite between the 97 heat + the 99 + 00 knicks

This has got to be in the top 5 NBA plays of ALL time. Just for its significance alone.
me too dude... me too!! I love the 90s knicks more than ANY team!!
Un momento único! Maravilloso y tal vez irrepetible! Extraordinaria jugada del gran Larry Jonson

No matter what LJ does with the rest of his life, he will always be remembered as the King of New York, if only for a moment......
Larry Johnson never has to pay for a drink in NYC because of that play. Love LJ. 🍺 here’s to you

loved those days as well ma n...Larry Johnson a gr8 player and class act. Still have those grand mama shoes as well...
loved that Knicks team
I miss my 90s Knicks more than any sports team in my entire life....

LJ's 4 Point Play and Sean Elliot's Memorial Day Miracle.....by far my two favorite memories of '99!
GO SPURS GO!
That four point play propels them to the finals. Even with a strike shortened season
I was at this game as a child. I was 12, sitting in section 346, my dad told me lets go near the exit to start beating traffic but we'll watch the end from there. i'm not a knicks fan but i love this spectacular player and in particular this unbelievable play
Larry Johnson had been in the league only 8 years yet he looks like he's 45 years old.
I love the Knicks more than anybody, and I'm say that winning this game means more than losing to the Spurs.
The crowd shot from above is one of the greatest images ever. Word. The one thing the Knicks had from 93 to 99 was heart. The NBA has no heart anymore either, except KG and AI. Now we've got t-mac, vc, marbury.
Spurs won in 5. KNICKS fan for life.
That music 5:57 always puts a few more tears in my eyes.
Yes I watched it too! Wat do u call holding him under his arm as he was he going to shoot?!!! Hometown call, sure
That's one of the worse calls ever. Had he fouled him, do you think he would have made that shot from that distance. It's over and there's no actual way of knowing how it would have ended w/o the home court call. That's the NBA though!!!
Robert Manning while he was shooting ???
he took a step and shot after the foul
The Best Basketball moment in MSG History!
#1 LJ's 4 Point Play
#2 Willis Reed playing in Game 7 of '70 Finals
#3 Ewing's Tip Dunk in Game 7 of '94 ECF

I love this play. As a retrospective Pacer fan, it's nice to remember that the Knicks didn't win anything during those years either.
bro, when we lost GM Ernie Grunfeld, we began to lose the Knicks that would consistently go deep & be a threat in the playoffs, 1 & 2 seeded. he put that entire franchise together almost single-handedly, from Ewing in '85 onward.
As a Hoosier, this moment hurts, but is still pretty amazing.
im a knick fan, and after all these years i can finally admit that he didn't get fouled on that three, I can't believe the refs gave us the game haha. thanks referees!!!!
that is pure legendary basketball.
This video makes me proud of being a Knicks fan.
One small channel supporting another...subbed!!
... you mean to the Finals.
The degree of difficulty of Miller's famous threes indeed proved greater, but, hey, L.J. sank the shot of his career in that game.
possibly the sweetest crowd reaction in sports history
I’m a lakers fan but this season there was something about the knicks that caught my attention the rivalries of heat and Indiana. And second ever 8 seed to ever beat a 1st seed lol.
That is ranked no 14 in MSG history, other sports such as boxing are included in the ranking. Not to mention other events as well.
Im a die hard Pacer Fan and I'll give you the W and the respect for the clutch shot. But, you all know the foul was on the ground. +Brendon Fields Pacers had the last shot. Knicks Win U Lose. Go New York Go New York Go!!!
The Pacers won the next year, so let it go
Brendon Fields don't give them nothing it was a bad call
the wrong call
and the nba won't admit they cheat the Pacers all the time
Exactly, the foul was well before the shot. The shot shouldn't have counted. The fix was in.

The '99 Knicks were all heart. Oh how times have changed.
every time i watch this i get chills, i was in lav vegas watching this, it was crazy.
By the way this was in Indiana where I was watching it. This play shook the ground across the entire nation!
