Love John's story. Anything is possible with God. We can do it with His power, not alone. David slew Goliath, not by his own power, but by God's power. Every hero in the Bible only overcame with God's strength. We have to do as John did and not be shaped by what other people think, but gather our own self confidence and faith in Christ as saviour. Don't hide the hurt either, but lay it on your Father in heaven because he cares for you.
I stopped drinking at 19 when I got a knock on the head and ended up taken to hospital in a police van because there was an ambulance strike. I had been over-compensating with my drinking because I wanted to fit in, yet not do drugs with my friends. Still not cool! My parents knew I was drinking from age 15 and encouraged me to go out to clubs and let my hair down as they were concerned about me taking life too seriously. At this point I had to make a conscious effort not to mix with the same crowd as they were not going the same direction I now wanted to take. The right friends soon came along when I changed the road I was following and I had a lot more fun when I became my own person. Just call on Jesus and he will be right beside you.
