Hi David (I think it is), thanks for the upload. A friend sent this to me after seeing it. I was actually your captain on this flight. Glad you had a great experience!
I was a pilot for them for about a year, I was good friends with the guy who gave your safety briefing. It was a whole lot of fun, got to meet a lot of interesting people. Nice to see from a passengers perspective
Hi! I am very interested in becoming a pilot for them. I was planning to be a customer service agent at LAX then transitioning to being a pilot for them. Have you heard of anyone doing this? Also is there anything else I could do at this point. (Flying job main goal). I'm 17 so I can't get my commercial yet but I have over 400 hours and an IR. Thanks
Dude same and im in love with the PC-12. I remember one time as a kid we flew into Laughlin Nevada and got off the plane down the air stairs right onto the ramp. It was the best part of my vacation.
I fly Boutique ALL the time from Cortez ,Colorado to Phoenix, Arizona. It's incredibly inexpensive and so easy. The size of the plane is cool. We get to grab snacks out of the compartment and the pilots are REALLY friendly.
I started with Boutique Air in Clovis New Mexico. I retired from Cannon AFB as C-130 engine mechanic in 2015. I got hired on not long afterward. I was thankful to be on the first Boutique Air team.
Back in 1974, when I was in high school and lived in the Bay Area, I had a girlfriend in Visalia. I would fly down Friday afternoons on a United 737 that went SFO-Stockton-Modesto-Merced-Visalia, I think it was an EAS flight, and the fare was like $14.00 For a transportation geek, it was a really great flight - not too manypeople on board, choice of seats, got to watch the flaps and thrust reversers, etc. Took the train back Sunday afternoons.
The PC-12 is an amazing aircraft. Even though it only has one engine, it is very reliable, plus if it were to go out, that aircraft can glide 140km so that’s not a worry. The engine actually works more like a reverse jet engine than a prop, where in the air is sucked in, then from back to front, some of it goes into the bleed air (that’s the air that keeps the aircraft pressurized and the AC system) while the rest goes through the combustion tube where it’s then shot through this tiny windmill about the size of a fist. That tiny windmill is what powers the props.that little black oval on the right wing is the weather radar, it’ll normally be deactivated on the ground, however if there are cones around the plane, stay outside of those lest you’ll get hit with the radiation that thing shoots out (all planes have a weather radar, no you’re not gonna get radiated inside the plane from it). This aircraft is also used for more than just passenger flights, to include air ambulances, and military surveillance operations.
This'd be a great idea in Australia. Our Country which owns its own continent yet badly needs a scheme like this. Well done. ps. the Pilatus PC 12 is the plane of choice for the Aussie icon, "The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)" which covers all states and territories in a land the size of the USA (3 million square miles), since founded in 1928 to service outback 'stations' (ranches) & small towns.
Unfortunately this plane was crashed outside Mesquite Texas in April of 2020. Pilot stalled short on approach, landing due to engine power loss. As far as I know - the pilot survived with hopitalization. The plane was a loss - wings came off in the roll as it hit the ground but the body of the plane remain intact. The wings caught fire but were away from the fuselage so literally the plane's design protected and saved the pilots life. @blancolirio did a breakdown on @VASAviation video ATC, pilot comms, @flightaware tracking, PC-12 Emergency Procedures from the plane's manual... Etc.
You should try ultimateair shuttle. They fly dornier 328 And now E-135s. They fly out of NY, Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Chicago. If you want a fun weekend and some amazing food, come see us here in the CLE. Fairly reasonable for a first class experience. They fly into Cleveland's Burke lakefront airport right downtown, take in an Indians game. Then you could go polar opposite and fly spirit out of Cleveland Hopkins...a short train ride away. I'd be happy to show you around. Nice to see another aviation/travel enthusiast. Keep up the good work.
I’ve flown in the PC-12 4 times. Rear facing each time. I’m a nervous flyer in large commercial aircraft so facing backwards during those landings is definitely something i won’t forget lol
Gee, walking out onto the tarmac to board a commercial flight. I haven't done that since the 1960's when I would board 727's up the rear stairs at most airports. Great video. Love the Pilatus too. A real rugged beast.
I love the PC-12, it’s a great aircraft. It looks like Boutique Air also has King Air 350’s but I’d definitely prefer the Pilatus. I live in North Jersey and would love to see them run some flights around the NY metro area.
Used to live in San Ramon. At 7:56 you can see a white building more or less in the shape of a cross. I worked in the building for around 10 years. Couldn't see my house because of the haze but it was in your shot. Interesting that you mentioned San Ramon.
short lil regional flights are fun bc you either end up in a Very Small Jet or an Equally Small (but much louder) turboprop, and the cruising altitude is low enough that it’s actually enjoyable to stare out the window the whole time
A must for aviation enthusiasts! Its like flying private for cheap and on a unique aircraft! I would absolutely do it however I still need to find myself some free time and a trip to San Fransisco...
A little tour of the airport.... board the most beautiful turbine engined aircraft in the world like you're an executive...... the PC 12 is in my opinion the coolest aircraft. Awesome blend of traditional prop driven aircraft I know it's a turbo prop...it looks like a little World War II fighter and man it's an awesome aircraft I would dream about owning and flying one of these. I have my pilot license so I have that part taken care of just need about 5 million bucks and enough for the operating cost small problem. Love the PC 12! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video as always, David! I see Boutique operates out of ATL and Muscle Shoals/Northwest Alabama Airport (MSL). I will have to try to catch a flight with them one day.
I had a layover at San Fransisco this summer. I was ending vacation. We left from Spokane and arrived at San Fransisco, and then we took off on a bigger plane to Santa Ana.
Crazy. 40 dollars. You lucky fellow. In Switzerland the PC 12 is like a dream. You dont have the opportunity to ride it every here and than. Congrats to you. I've just checked local prices: to fly a round trip of 1 hour as passenger of the PC 12 departing from a small airport and return to the same cost about 300 dollars.
I have never flown but now that I have a brother in uc merced I could visit him during the break and I could fly on boutique air.Hopefully during thanksgiving or winter break.
The government gives them incentives for operating at smaller airports that are too far from any other airports with commercial service. It’s part of the essential air service act.
Very nice report, David! One thing I would love to see you make on day (beside Air Transat report of course :p) is one of those little PC-12 that operates into St-Barths in that all-grey livery. Since my vacation there, I always wondered what was happening in there!
downside is that you still have to go through the airport like other commercial flights. that's the worst part. If you could leave from a private FBO it would be 100 times better
Gotta come in at night and fly over the bay bridge. It has a pattern that goes along the bridge! Best time in SF is early AM before the city wakes up. You can also take BART to SFO! That plane was SMALLL!
Man, I wish they had these at a nearby airport. When other people go to the movies, count me in on a 40$ round trip in a private jet. I would kill those OJs and snacks on the plane, grab a coffee in Merced, and be back on my merry way at night :-D
Great report. Just as an aside I thought peanuts weren't allowed on flights any more due to people having severe reactions to them if they are allergic?
Interesting flight, but for such short flight, about 100 miles direct, how long it took to flight, and how long door to door? I wonder if driving is not a simple option, in particular an electric car like a Tesla Model 3 would require 60 kWh for a 240 miles round trip and 2 hours drive one way. @@r3kthoops750 dont, if you like your flying career don’t go work there. Their maintenance and management is atrocious. It’s gone downhill fast.
Simply Aviation, that was a steal at $40! You don’t even get free snacks on most of our European Carriers!. Nice report.
yeah but on Ryanair it's €20 which in dollars is a bit more than $20, still not $40
I would take that flight only for the boarding procedure lol
Dude same and im in love with the PC-12. I remember one time as a kid we flew into Laughlin Nevada and got off the plane down the air stairs right onto the ramp. It was the best part of my vacation.
Nice flight
I got to sit in the cockpit because i live where these babys are built.
It's because a PC-12 is low that a jet bridge cannot reach
The most unique video in Simply Aviation!!
There are so many unique videos in their channel tbh

I still can’t believe I was working when you were there. I hear my voice on the PA working that Alaska flight to Maui @ 2:18

So cool bro!

Dude that seems really cool and I mean 40 Bucks for something like that is incredibly awesome
Flighttime h
It's because it's government subsidized.
Nice video. What was the flight duration?
Flighttime too bad I can’t fly it, I’m allergic to peanuts
Flighttime yup

San Francisco is so nice! Seeing it from a plane view is spectacular. The Bay bridge and Golden gate look really nice from a plane.
I Can’t believe how quiet the PC-12 is. Very nice flight indeed.
Wikipedia says Merced is served by "a minor, heavily subsidized airline" :-)
Its because of the essential air service act not at all unique to Merced
Boutique Air no longer flies from Merced to Oakland but instead to Sacramento, as well as LAX.
@@gregsells8549 They fly Merced to LAX on a Pilatus? That’s a fairly long flight! I’m guessing they use the King Air 350 for that.

A lot of those mini trips add up. And it’s a small plane -
