The imagery comes from both his fiancé’ (RIP Alori Joh) and friend (RIP Capital Steez) both leaped to their death off of buildings. Not to mention his best friend in music (RIP Mac Miller) and best friend outside of music (RIP Doeburger) all passed away and it hit him hard. He might need to make a Book of Soul 2 cause he a good dude who really be going thru it.

Look the man in the mirror “IN THE EYE” but also “IN THE I” because he’s talking about looking at himself (the I) and eflecting on what he’s had to struggle though. “THE PUZZLE UPON US”, the US is him + the reflection of himself in the mirror.

Alori Joh (Ab-Soul' Girlfriend) Died in 2012. Mac (Close Friend) passed in 2018 & DoeBurger (His Best Friend) passed away last Year. I believe (I'm not fully certain) but I believe he attempted suicide after Mac's death.

I'm not gonna lie this song really touched me and woke me up because even in the dark hole that I'm in it feels like there can be a glimmer of light and I just kinda makes me cry thinking I need to rise from defeat. Very touching . Love your reactions

Saying our classmate is like saying indirectly “I know ab-soul and his best friend/first love we went to school together) which equally wouldn’t have been important due to the fact for one..nobody cares that they were classmates and two them being classmates has nothing to do with his explanation of him jumping off a building being symbolic. He literally just wanted to let it be known they were in school together.

Man, a little bit ago I was listening to Ab Soul thinking that it's a shame he never became nowhere near as big as Kendrick. Another person I was listening to thinking the same thing was Jay Electronica. I remember way back I used to always be on top of what they did bc they were some of my favorite rappers. Then they both suddenly faded away.
This song brought me to tears on the first listen. I was in a very dark place when this song dropped. It's one of the few songs that bring out true emotions, pure therapeutic music❤

I loved hearing this song so much. Soul was arguably my favorite rapper back in 2012 and it always hurt that he kinda "fell off". But this shit is beautiful and is some of his best material to date.

I think if y’all got the mac miller and ALori Joh part of ab soul’s story as well as the imagery in the video about basically falling to your death (which I think symbolises suicide by Alori Joh off falling a building ) this songs will go up another 200% in your heads. He got heavy on drugs and attempted to take his own life and he OD’d and survived. Seeing him coming out of all this and still deliver music cum’on let’s respect Soulo. Man been through it all and this is he’s 2nd,2nd chance at it.❤️❤️❤️

Since you got Patreon, i haven't watched any of your stuff there to be honest. But i paid the subscription since you got Patreon, because i'm a big supporter and i love this channel.
I work at a gym, and i just constantly listen to the same modern music, usually rap and pop. After you listen to it x amount of times, you realize how much of today's music is sampled. And it gets to a certain point where it's almost irritating.
So i just love this, it's sounds different, it's cool and his pen nice and it's not something Biggie or Jay-z wrote 25 years ago
