We stayed there before the referb. It was a great choice for us bc we were only there to sleep and rest a little. My 9yo did the game room, I thought the gift shop was pretty well stocked with good merch, and we did take advantage the refillable mugs bc we had the dining plan (no longer a thing). We ate breakfast at the food court on our last morning before heading home and the food was good. I think everyone should stay on property at least once. If I were going to stay in a Savannah room at Animal Kingdom Lodge, I would stay on property again. If not, I highly highly recomend the good neighbor hotels. Often less expensive than the value resorts on property, same perks, faster complementary shuttle. Most recently we did Holliday Inn Disney Springs and we could walk to Disney Springs. The rooms were nicer than the All Stars (pre-refurb, the All Stars may be comperable now). I worried we would feel like we were missing some magic, but it didn't at all.
