  • @wallemon06

    Regarding white, do you really use full white? (#000000) That can cause DTG printers to only make one pass with white ink and cause text to come out muted. If you add a minor touch or grey or yellow, that will force the printer to make two passes and deposit more ink, resulting in a more vibrant white. Have you used this trick before?

    Thank you Juna! I've heard that for printing DTG on a black Tshirt you need to add a bit of color to the white fonts (not pure white) to make it look good and not faded because of the shirt absorbing the color (to make the machine to adding another layer). Question....should I automatically set up myself in cmyk and just export as png always? Also...should I be concerned with the appearance of my designs on different color shirts...like red or bright yellow shirts....how does the substrate effect my design?

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому +1

      Yes always set up as CMYK and export as PNG..... the shirt colors don't affect the colors on top as much... I think most places lay down a white like a primer so that the colors look good on all different color shirts... You do need to be concerned about how the palette matches the shirt color though.... yellow text will not read well on a yellow shirt... that kind of thing.

  • @jimdart8219

  • @nirellediamond

    Does printing in CMYK help with the colors being more solid on the shirt or is that based on the printer? I've tried a few different printers on Printify and the colors are either muted or you can see that it was printed on a black background (which I know I can't change that, but I'm wondering how to keep the colors as true as I can). Thank you so much for your videos!

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  2 роки тому

      So CMYK is to make sure you are using all the colors available to the printers... printers use CMYK to print so iif you created a color outside of the CMYK spectrum you would get a different color.... the closest color that CMYK can create.

  • @arkikali5632
    @arkikali5632 Рік тому +1

    Hey, Juna. Thank you SO much. Can you talk at some point about what colors NOT to use on black / red / etc.? I'm assuming you don't in this video. If you do, ignore me. I'm not caffeinated yet. 😆 But for instance, I made a shirt on heather navy (B+C 3001) and it had black lettering. In the mockups on printify, it looked really cool, like a dark-on-dark contrast. But when it came in (thank GOD I got a sample!), you can't read it unless you're right up on it, and the maroon also fades into the background. Anyway, fast-forward to today and a friend asked me to make a design for her, which I am in the process of, but she wants a black shirt and her fave color is purple, and frankly I'm a little scared that's going to not be enough contrast. I tried putting a gold outline around it, but... Yeah. I'm a little worried it's going to look like crap. Thanks for listening to me moan--I'm off to watch the video now. 🙂

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  Рік тому +1

      Yeah... it's easier if you stick to light colors on dark shirts and dark colors on light shirts.... purple would not work well on black unless it's a light purple... One thing you could do is test the colors out with a contrast tester....there are many of them out there but here is an example of one....accessibleweb.com/color-contrast-checker/

      @@DetourShirts Oh! I didn't even know there was such a thing. Thank you SO much. And yeah--I have GOT to fix those colors.There's a brightish / darkish purple and a turquoise, and I don't know that either of them are going to work well, border or no. I'm sure once you've been doing it a well, you kind of have a gut instinct of what colors aren't safe, but I'm not there yet. 😆 Thank you again!

    Informative video - thank you very much. I might be overthinking or making my t-shirt printing process more complicated than I should so please bare with me and this question. And I apologize but this has nothing to do with palettes. You mentioned that saving a CMYK image to RGB will save the images CMYK colors. Are you saying that I can change the Mode on my PSD file from CMYK to RGB then Save it as a PNG and my colors will be CMYK when the file is sent to the printer? I'm using distressed brushes so my design will have torn edges with a transparent background and I'm printing on a black t-shirt. Also, if it matters, I'm using sublimation ink and will use a heat press. New to this, so I appreciate your time to answer. Thanks, Orlando

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  2 роки тому +1

      So I'm kind of saying that.... here is what really happens, I hope this makes sense.... you create your design with CMYK colors....... then you will need to save the file as a PNG, which is also RGB so your design is now an RGB file but still has the CMYK you used because those CMYK color are the same in RGB..... when your design gets printed it will use the CMYK process.... so it will take your RGB file and try to match the colors..... lucky for you, you started off with CMYK colors so they should match...... what could have happened if you didn't start with CMYK is that the color you provided would be an RGB color that doesn't have a good match when printing in CMYK so it would look different... really bright blue would look dull for example.... hope that makes sense

      You can always do a little lighter red and blue.... change you color palette to match the black background

      @@DetourShirts Thanks, Juna! I just went over to Kittle and grabbed a couple off of there. One a more "classic" look and one a more retro look. No idea why I didn't do that sooner. I need to go look at a shirt I have too and see what their red / blue looks like live. Thanks again!

    Rgb uses light to make colors cmyk uses paint or ink which is limited and opaqe

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  2 роки тому

      Exactly right... which is why you can't use RGB on shirts... Shirts are not a light based product, it's a paint or in based product.

    Thank you for the great video. But now I didn’t understand something. MBA says to design in sRGB and now you’re saying to design in CMYK because everything what is printed will be in CMYK. So when I Design now in CMYK and save the file as PNG it will automatically convert those colors to RGB? Or do I need to do some settings?

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, correct... PNGs are always RGB.... but all printers including DTG printers use a CMYK process to print..... Most CMYK colors are also RGB colors so you should be fine if you use CMYK... but there are some bright RGB colors that are not CMYK colors and that's where the print comes out looking different from what you see on screen.

      Printful also say to design in sRGB.
      “At Printful, we recommend saving and uploading design files in the sRGB color profile, sRGB IEC61966-2.1 to be exact!
      Our DTG printers work with an upgraded CMYK color space. We’ve added more ink colors, allowing us to achieve print colors that fall outside of the CMYK color range. The closest color space to our upgraded CMYK is the sRGB and that’s why we recommend it for print files.”

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому

      You can't... You can design with CMYK colors but once you save as a PNG file it will be RGB.....but I'm suggesting to use CMYK anyway so that you are save when the PNG file is used to print because it will have to be turned back to CMYK... avoid using those bright RGB colors that can not print

    Hi Juna, My listings in Teepublic store can't be found in the marketplace. So, I did contact the teepublic support Team and their answer was like that :
    "... Due to legal or creative reasons, your designs will not show up in search or on the "new" or "browse" areas of the site. However, you will still be able to sell your work through the direct link to your page or to the individual product pages..."
    This answer was more automatic and vague!
    What should I do now? Close this store and create a new one? or keep emailing them, even though I don't think it gonna make any progress.

      I've been hearing about this lately... I'm not sure if creating a new store will help... ultimately TeePublic can show (or not show) whatever they want ... it's their site.... kind of stinks but not much to do besides sell on your own website and make your own rules
