    Great video, again, DM Scotty. Just a suggestion - an alternative to leaving the edges sharp, you could use the cinder block or the hot knife to round them off a bit. This would give more realism for some rock faces, especially if you were going to flock to the top, rather than having bare stone. I may make some both ways.

    That sound effect...Scotty, that made my day XD. By the way, I think it's important to distinguish that the pink stuff is condensed Polystyrene, not Styrofoam. Styrofoam is air expanded and is not dense at all, while insulating polystyrene is extremely dense. Made from the same base materials, just in different ways. Personally I prefer the pink or blue stuff when I can find it since it's easier to manage than regular Styrofoam (and no annoying beads all over the shop!)

    So, did you do two black bomb base coats? First the flat black spray, and then acrylic brushed on?

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  4 роки тому

      I sprayed some flat black on to melt the foam in places because it helps the rough rock look. The spray coat won't cover the foam well as it tends to melt the foam and let the color of the original foam poke through so I hand painted the pieces black acrylic craft paint before putting the rock colors on. Hope this helps and have fun.

    Did you mix modpodge with the black base

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  3 роки тому

      I did not as this foam is pretty sturdy but that is an option to make them stand up to wear. Honestly all the years I have had them it hasn't been a problem.

    How do you go about deciding about how many of what size pieces you'll need? I'm currently making some pieces for a crag top wyvern nest for my group, but I want to keep the stuff modular and easy to use for futur games

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  6 років тому

      Modularity is the key. I was pretty random with the sizes as I wanted larger platforms to smaller ones. Even the smaller ones can be bunched together to make larger ones so no real pressure on the sizes.

      Try and find where they might be doing new construction they usually have scraps that are perfect size for this sort of crafting they just throw away.

      I use the pink styrofoam they but on the outside of houses...you can get it at big box hardware stores.

    Would you recommend the Styrofoam insulation as a possible alternative to the dollar store foam core? Do you see it working the same way? I'm having a tough time finding a foam core I can peel easily.

    i'm really hoping you didn't just throw away those left overs and did facades with them, cause they are very very great looking facades for background elements.

    Why is it always based in black? Everything is always based in black on every channel. Monet hardly ever used black since it rarely occurs naturally.
    Does it just not work to base in dark shades?

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  6 років тому +1

      I find it kind of pre-shades the work and makes it graphically pop but the great thing about the craft is that you can paint it any way you want...This is just what I like to do.

      Cool. I basically have no idea what I'm doing here. I mean, I've got high school art, a bit of engineering, and some drafting under my belt. Outside that I'm flying blind.
      Your videos are A HUGE help, by the way.

      +theDMsCraft first thanks for looking a my channel such that it is. Second I like how you go from being respectful to commenting on my lack of videos in an insulting way. Since you want to talk about my channel lets talk about the quality of the latest videos. When I first started watching your videos they were helpful and useful. Then you abandoned that for the next series and it too was useful. Lately though you have done nothing but go back to 2.5d with no walls. There is not much else you can do with these. Sure you can make them different sizes but you did the same thing there with 2.5d and next. And the building front might seem cool at first but after you have made 2 or 3 you learn not to waste time on those with some doors and windows will not only do but will be more versatile.
      But lets take this back to the beginning. I do not find this build useful and I am sure others have the same feeling. There are a shit ton of hot knife videos but how many crafters have one or will spend the money on one? Originally your videos were about taking cheap trash and making cool stuff but now you rehash older things with a slight twist like no walls but an entire useless front. I realize you save the better stuff for people that will pay for it but I;m not one of those. Also begging for constant tip gets a bit old. So yes maybe I do not have the content on my channel you think I should but does that make my opinion null and void? Nope. And if you think insulting all your fans by insinuating their value is based on the amount of content they put out you need to look at your fan base a little closer. Sorry if i do not find your videos useful anymore but that in no way contrasts my channel and as a result my opinion being null and void. Maybe you should stick to the paid comments that I ma sure stroke your ego and tell you how great you are. I mean your only as important as your content right?

    • @theDMsCraft
      @theDMsCraft  8 років тому

      I am respectful to people that are respectful to me and your comment was neither productive or helpful. If I annoy you and you find my work useless then why watch my channel? Every other commenter has found this build useful so trying to lump others in your negativity is has no basis in fact.
