Three different pieces that demonstrates the world of chamber music and how it can develope and change over time, from Mozart to Brahms, and then Shostakovich. Seldom have I heard such a nice playing as from this quartet/quintet, Antoine Tamestit and Belcea String Quartet. Thank you very much.

What a great performance with the best chamber musicians you can get. I specially like Shostakovich String Quartet no. 8. Absolutely topnotch!

Ein großartiges Konzert. Mozart sehr fein und (trotz reichlich Vibrato) sehr differenziert phrasiert. Das Brahms-Quintett habe ich noch nie so gut ausbalanciert, so überzeugend gehört. Danke!

Thank you for uploading this beautiful concert. The players are on point. The Shostakovich was particularly good.

Please kindly correct the name of the violist: Chorzelski. So hard to copy properly?

This Shostakovich Largo at 38:15 tells us (as I understand) how much he hated this pressure under Stalin. Wonderful music under pressure, here wonderfully played by Belcea String Quartet.

I think you are confusing this with his 10th symphony. This was written in response to his visit to Dresden. It is a deeply personal work - based on his own musical signature (four first notes of his name). According to Fay it was meant to be his farewell note - as he intended committing suicide on his return to Soviet Union. It is one of the most extraordinary works he wrote. Heartbreaking, bleak.
Belcea play it remarkably well - displaying the full gravity and sorrow of work ... amazing!
