Good thing about being a kid when this music hit the charts, I didn't quite understand the meanings to the songs back then, I just love the music itself and how artist would sing them, now 30 years later, the song hits a different spot in my soul, literally a melody has brought back memories and has changed my state of mind. I love hearing old songs that bring new meanings to me.

+btownmxer That new shit is pop, technically. It's not really country at all. There are some artist who still do put out some good, country songs. And I won't lie, I do like some of the pop songs but not many. Most of it is lyrical garbage. The lyrics don't make sense. They don't tell a story like a good country song does.

Instrumentation, lyrics, arrangements are the best in the business. He ignored what execs wanted him to be. Kenny and Tim and Toby (whom I still like a lot) followed more of a commercial appeal and created a certain image for themselves and Clint stayed his course and disregarded what anyone thought. All the way into the 2000s and his newest album that is about three years old. Not caring about record sales and sold-out stadiums. Most of his lyrics aren’t about the country life, either. They’re about thinkin’, time, “state of mind”, and cerebral concepts. Most underrated by far. Compositions and instrumentation are unmatched. And that voice and range! There will never be another CB! He killed Garth at the awards after their first album and Garth was probably crying and then turned up the marketing machine and stadium shows. He had some gems for sure but lyrics (writes his own), instrumentation, voice, compositions, Clint is the most underrated by a million miles. Best there was or is imo. Hayden is my favorite guitar player ever. And his albums since the 90’s are top notch and overlooked. Sad. Still touring hard!

I liked your wright up and points you made, I certainly agree.
Fun fact…I understand from a Clints deal was signed and tracks laid down ready to go in 1987.
Im sure the wait was difficult but 2 years later in 1989 it went forward.
One more payment was Clints choice for the first release but the record company decided on Better Man ! The rest is history.

Clint Black was R&B before he went country. As good as he is playing his own style of country music, his natural mode is R&B. I'd really like it if he looped back around. While he still can. A little white hippy playing black roots music in high school is my first hand memory of Clint Black.

I wore this song out back in high school. Nothing could touch this classic country sound. Clint Black really laid the foundation for artist like Allen Jackson,Garth Brooks and Mark Chestnut. I like all of them, but Clint was one of them artist who delivered that classic country sound along with George Strait before the next generation evolved.

I was six years old in '93 when this song released. Every time it comes up on my playlist I am immediately transported back into the tree we played in as kids. My best friend Kelvin and I were sitting up there hammering nails into old wood planks, making it just a bit more comfortable and just being kids. This song comes on the little battery powered radio I had up there with us and we both just stop when we hear that opening melody and listen. No talking, no more hammering, both just listening and enjoying this awesome music. I can still see it plain as day while writing and listening. The sun was shining, warm but not too hot and not a single care in the world. Life was as perfect as I've ever experienced it in those days.

Huh?? Clint Black was certainly a HUGE Superstar in his heyday! The 4 Huge stars of the time were Clint, Alan, Travis, and Garth! All came out in roughly the same time frame (89 - 90)! There were others like Mark Chesnutt, and Joe Diffie that were equally as great, but I'd say they didn't quite grab the fans in the same way! But The whole 90's Hat crew was based around those 4 Superstars!

I remember hearing this song for the first time and I fell in love with it. I use to get up early and listen to the top 100 songs on 98.7 WMZQ and have my tape deck ready for record and it came on but it was different this time around hearing it, the harmonica was playing on the intro and I remember smiling at how smooth this dude was with his harmonica riffs and now at 34 I hear this song on my Tidal app lol (man how hard we had to work as much we did to try and catch the songs we love back then). I think about that day many years ago pressing record on that day, how the day looked, how relaxed and excited I was. Man I miss being at that place and time when I first heard this song.
