It's just Shakespeare being, as I like to call him, a breath wizard 🧙♂️ Does the work for us! I do love this piece though, and this character. On my wishlist for when I finally look my age 😂
I appreciate you for going into such detail with this character. I find it hard to identify with some of the more rarely performed plays such as Winters Tale and Cymbeline. In the Winter's Tale, so much happens in such a short period, seemingly out of nowhere; the time that passes combined with the bizarre nature of her husband's death, along with the nature of Hermione's absence (was she hiding or is she Galatea reimagined?) makes empathy battle with disbelief. Thank you for turning a previously stale character in my mind to one that is less fantastical but more grounded/powerful.
Thank you so much Mark. I know The Winter’s Tale is not universally loved but I love it! I think I just ignore all the plot holes because the language is so good. 😂
Stale character? Paulina? Her lines are some of the least stale imaginable, especially for a woman. But I'm glad this opened her up for you and I hope you use the same analytical skills you have seen modeled here to examine other characters you may have thought were stale. Actors might play her stalely, but it would be because of ignoring all the cues that are right there. She is whip smart, brave and lively.
