Very good show today guys that all folks that are interested in getting started with these great trees. I live just east of Ok City and have most of these trees the guys recommended and agree 100%. Here's a few more that I've had in the ground for at least three years that have done well for this guy that started planting JM's in 2020. Palmatum's Gold Digger, Columner, Hubbs Red Willow, Sir Damon, and Jordan. A cool Japonicum I have had good luck with is Indian Summer!

Great list, my Seiryu is one I consider easy and rigorous. Grows like a weed in full sun.

Great show. I live in Denver, CO . New to JM this yr. 70y 71 soon. Ordered 14 trees 1/3rd on this our sun is harsh 250+\~ days of sun. Wide temperature swings wide 60-80 mph in the spring especially. I plan to use containers to shift sun exposure and wind exposure. Heavy clay so pots also provide better drainage. Very alkaline water and soil. These trees facilitate me. Winter protection. Z5. Usually minus singe digits for just 4~5 d. Mostly low teens. Last 2 winters -17. first since moved here since 1977. Thinking about taking them to Mississippi for the winter with us. Not sure will get cold enough. Drastic zone changes questionable. Dice we are z 5 thought they would be ok. Lost my Fireglow immediately I think due to harsh sun

Be cautious with Japanese maples in pots during winter, if you're in Zone 5 then you lose a "zone" for potted plants. So your potted trees might experience an equivalent to a Zone 4 winter if left out in the elements. I learned this from watching MrMaple also practicing bonsai.
Hopefully MrMaple will chime in and give you a recommendation.
Good luck with your Japanese maples. 👍🏽

We recommend winterizing them in an unheated shed or garage. Be sure to still water when you know it won't freeze. You won't need to water as frequent probably twice a month. Thanks for watching.

It's a genetic mutation on a tree that shows morphological differences from the rest of the plant. Thanks for watching.

Possibly once established but most maples in that area do best with some late day shade
