    I did a small patch job using the spray can it was a nightmare to use. Ended up spraying the can into a plate and patching it like in your video. Much better way to go in my opinion. Had another section peel from a leak that our house had before we purchased. Thanks for the video!

    Thank you. This seems like a much better method than the Homax popcorn ceiling spray can which was to me the very worst product I have ever bought at any hardware store any time in my life.

      If you don’t mind my asking Henry, what were the drawbacks of the Homax popcorn spray can?

    Thank you. I have a large pat h of exposed drywall from water damage. The roofers fixed the leak but left me to remove the sagging popcorn (done months ago) and today I'm planning to finally popcorn patching the ceiling. The spot shows up in my zoom background unless I move my camera and so I'm excited to get this done in time for next semester. I hope it comes out right without paint, but that was a great hint if it's not matching. Thanks again for this simple explanation

    Dab on with a course sponge (real sponge with big holes) works much better to get a consistent texture match!

    If your home was built before 1978, I recommended wearing a good quality dust mask when removing any loose popcorn since many older popcorn ceilings contain asbestos. In the State of Hawaii, a homeowner cannot remove even a small amount of their popcorn ceiling for asbestos testing if they live in a condo unless it's done by a certified professional. However, if the dwelling is a stand-alone single family dwelling the homeowner can remove a small sample by themselves for testing.

      +daMacroGuy Good point. I clearly mention this in a number of articles I wrote on popcorn ceiling.

    Was the ceiling primed before it was sprayed originally?I have found a ceiling fails if it was not primed first.

  • @chaseme81871

    why couldn't you just breakdown the material that you removed, and mix it in with some watered down sheet rock compound? wouldn't it match better?

    My popcorn ceiling is a bit different than this example. It has long sharp points, vs this example that looks as if someone was applying mud with a box a nerds mixed in lol. How do I repair my type of ceiling?

    I have a stucco ceiling that I will be working on for a customer where there was a water leak from the roof and it has left several cracks on the ceiling. My guess would be to first tape the cracked areas and then use a pre-mixed stucco patch to cover the tape. If anyone has a better way to correct this, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

      Nah you’re right but get some mud in the crack and a layer for the mud to sit on that’s got not voids in it or it’ll blister (look up blistering drywall paper) then you can coat over that paper. But make sure you get mud under the paper too!

    Hi Mark...after you do the repair but before you paint it, do you normally prime the repaired area first or just paint it and skip the primer?

    • @asmodeus1274
      @asmodeus1274 3 роки тому

      From everything I’ve seen, you want to sand the area of repair w/180 grit sandpaper to 4 to 5 inches outward of the repair area. Spray it with a good primer like kilz before applying the popcorn patch.

    I have an actual hole in the ceiling. I live in apartments and unfortunately made a hole with the broom one night because the upstairs neighbors were being too loud. Would I just patch the drywall normally with stucko and then use this popcorn patch once that is dry? Any info helps.
