Vacation spots in Bandung are scattered in the north and south. You’ve got cafes at the top of the hills in Dago and Lembang, Kawah Putih, craters, plus strawberry and tea plantations, and hot springs in Ciwidey. Bandung is surrounded by mountains, so it’s known for its veggie-based food, making it pretty vegetarian-friendly. The locals in West Java are Sundanese, and the text at the museum was in Sundanese, not Indonesian.
Oh really, we weren't aware of how veggie friendly it was, but that makes so much sense! That makes sense with the language, though, I think we still wouldn't have been able to understand all too much 😅
@@DisappearforDays 😆 You will find a very different language when you move to Jogja/East Java, they speak Javanese same as Balinese in Bali or Sasak language in Lombok... very different languages, we can't understand each other, but we are united in Bahasa Indonesia. Stay safe and enjoy Indonesia, guys 👋
The writing on the wall is in the Sundanese ethnic language, which is still used today as a communication tool among Sundanese people, especially in West Java province. Sundanese is the second-largest ethnic group in Indonesia after the Javanese. Bandung is the capital of West Java, and its main ethnic group is Sundanese. Every province in Indonesia has its own ethnic language.
@@DisappearforDaysOf course😂, you both probably wouldn’t understand. Other Indonesians wouldn’t get it either, unless they’ve lived in the Sundanese region for a long time.
FYI The writing on the monument is in sundanese ethnic/ tribe language, In Fact: there are 583 languages and dialects spoken by the different ethnic groups in Indonesia. Indonesia people use Bahasa Indonesia language as their national language to communicate and unite people across Indonesia, because every indonesia region has its own language, I would say Bahasa Indonesia is like "mini-english" , we use english to communicate with people from different countries, but in indonesia they use Bahasa to communicate with indonesian people from different region, so at least most of indonesia people they speak minimum 2 languages (1 Ethnic/ tribe Language + 1 Bahas Indonesia) and also they can speak english but in various level, even in the same island of java from jakarta (Betawi Ethic), West Java (Sundanese Ethnic), Cetral Java to East Java (Javanese Ethnic) they speak totally different languanges and they use Bahasa to communicate with each other, even myself, i was born and raised as sundanese i have to use bahasa when I visit jakarta or central java to communicate with people, but when i visit bandung i can use sundanese language because they can understand it :) but now in this modern era some indonesian people can speak 3 or 4 languages and cross-cultural marriage become one of the factors, e.g. their parents are coming from different ethic/ tribe so their kids can speak different ethic languages, and enjoy your trip! Cheers :)

One day definitely wasn't long enough to explore! It seemed like such a cool quirky town! We loved visiting and will have another video out in Bandung soon 😉
Okay so, allow me to explain some things that you might be missing. 1. Jakarta is in fact always been the capital of indonesia since the dutch era (batavia) but soon to be changed though since we are in a process of building the new capital city. And culturally west java and jakarta are different. West java are the home for the sundanese tribe which the language was seen at the video (the one you didn't understand) and jakarta is the home for the betawi tribe speaking mainly betawinese. 2. Gedung sate is the office for the governor of west java so you actually was inside a governor palace. 3. There's a famous dutch bakery in braga street where they still serve items all the way since the colonials time. 4. Bandung is in literal crater of an ancient mountain and it used to be a lake. So it explains the cool breeze that you have in bandung So there you go, it might not be all because I'm not living in bandung but as fellow west javan citizen i think i can give a little insight of our provincial capital. Oh and by the way you guys should definitely visit jogjakarta since it's the only monarchy (yes monarchy) under a republic state.
Oh that's so interesting, thank you for the insights and such a detailed comment! We had no idea about all of that! Keep your eyes peeled to see if we head to Jogja 👀

9:45 indeed it's teh talua.. which litterally means "egg tea".. so no wonder when you said it's similar to egg coffee. Typically this kind of drink I believe is originated from west sumatra and you can find anywhere wherever there's padang/minang restaurant or little shop. Because the shop (kedai pak ciman) you visited is specialized in west sumatran food. I know because my office is just a few buildings from it.
Oh interesting, it makes sense it's mainly in west Sumatra as we struggled to find it anywhere else! The Sumatran food was incredibly good though! You're lucky to live so close, we'd be getting Teh Talua every day 😂😂
Egg in Indonesian is "telur" but egg in Minangnese (widely spoken language in West sumatera) is "telua" pronounced "talua".. Well minangnese is kind of a detour, if i can say, of malayu (the root of indonesian, the national language of the archipelago..)

Jakarta has long history...... previously was known as 'Sunda Kelapa' a very strategic port since around the 10th Century.......in circa 1525 ,the Portuguese takes over.....in 1527 ,prince Fatahillah (Cirebon Sultanate) ,fought the Portuguese ,and won the war. Then called the city 'Jayakarta' ,meaning City of victory........About a Century later ,when the Dutch occupy ,it was named Batavia ,based on the indegenious ethnic Betawi. The Dutch also made the city as centre port........ After the proclamation of independence (17 -8 -1945) ,it is decided that Jakarta (Jayakarta) be the capital city ........ During war against Allied Forces (Dutch + British) in 1945-1949 ,the city was taken and made as base city by the Allied Forces...... Indonesia moved it's capital city to Jogjakarta ,where the Sultan allows the Government to use all facility......so ,despite being in West Java ,Jakarta is considered as it's own Province.......... That writtings in the Bandung Monument is in Sundanese language ...... Bandung is also incredible....as the Allied Forces enter Bandung , the people prefers to burn their houses ,rather than give it to colonizers........
The history of Indonesia is so interesting! There's so much to learn! I love that the locals would rather burn their houses then to hand over to colonisers 😂💪
@@DisappearforDays Back in the colonial days, the Dutch East Indies advertised it as such, as it was the city of fashion and designers etc in Java (Indonesia) so it just got nicknamed Paris in Java. Bandung is pretty chill, but personally the best areas are Lembang and Kawah Putih, if you do revisit do not forget to check it out, I spent a month in Bandung and yeah those were for sure the highlights of it for me. Now it's time for me to keep moving on, towards Central and East Java, The only downside of Indonesia is how big it is, makes it really hard to see everything!
Been to Malang? The bandung of East Java, a resort of people working in Surabaya back in the dutch colonial era...i think Malang is more organised and tidier than Bandung
Gedung Sate serves as the official office of the Governor of West Java Province and is not a museum, therefore, there are frequent demonstrations protesting government policies.
Because of the international chefs like Martin Yan, Chef Wan, Tony Bourdain, Gordon Ramsay & others, Gula Melaka is more well known worldwide. Maple syrup too can be made into Gula Melaka, its simply the solidification process of the boiled sap.
Bandung is West Java province capital and not Jakarta cause Jakarta is it's own province which called DKI (Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota) Jakarta. Jakarta isn't west Java
It’s analogous to Washington DC. District of Columbia is not part of the State of Maryland. Like the Australian Capital Territory is not part of New South Wales. 🙂
Jakarta = london , bandung = manchester ..you eating wrong kind a food ..every region has it own food better to google it first what food from what city to get a full experience from every region..best bandung food are batagor, roti bakar, karedok, mie yamin..
Sila is NOT please in bahasa, in bahasa Please = Tolong/mohon. Depending on the context. Which is a bit confusing for you because "Tolong" can also translated in English to "Help", again depending on the context. Bahasa Indonesia is different than Malay, so you might just confused it to Malay because Sila in Malay = Please in English. 😅
@DisappearforDays sila is sankrit language(maybe local bahasa)Sila it's mean basic...si dasa sila bandung it's mean Ten basic of bandung..look like panca sila (panca=5(five/lima),and sila=dasar(basic),panca sila(5 dasar)pancasila=5 dasar(five basic;pilar nation)...correct me of i'm wrong,and appologize my English too bad..
@@mvtchannel7705 yeah you pretty much got that right, i didn't see the whole sentence in the video, that's why i only explain the Sila about, the reason why i didn't give an example like silakan is because every Indonesian always say it fully "silakan" Rarely anyone say "sila" As a word unless you were Malay ofc.
2:56 that's not Bahasa but Sundanese it's different from Bahasa so basically when you guys trying to understand the plaque it's like you guys said you learn English but you're trying to read German 😂 wich yeah you can find similar word but wouldn't understand all, it's Native language from west Java spoken by The Sundanese people wich around 37 Million of Indonesian are Sundanese ethnic and im one of them, we have our own language, writing system, culture and all that are different from other ethnic in Indonesia

@@DisappearforDays We’re not quite sure if we can forgive you for putting a Malaysian flag on an Indonesian video just yet-you might need to go through a tribunal for that one 😁. And yes, Sundanese (not Sudanese, please) is a totally different language from Indonesian. In fact, there are even some false friends between the two. For example, the first word in that poem, ᮜᮨᮙᮂ (read: lemah), means “soil” or “earth” in Sundanese, but in Indonesian, “lemah” means “weak.” Sundanese even has its own script! If you’ve ever looked at your photos or videos from Bandung, you might have noticed a different script under the street names written in the Latin alphabet (like that of Braga Street that you used for your thumbnail)-that’s the Sundanese script. If you want authentic food from Bandung, you should try the food stall "Bu Imas". It is located in the town square of Bandung, not far from there. It is very busy with local people.
Ahh we have left Bandung already unfortunately, that sounds interesting though, what is in it? 😁
You are in Bandung, you must visit the Ciwidey tea plantation,
It sounds like it could be a worthwhile visit! 👍
Oh really! We have left Bandung already unfortunately, but we'd love to head back at some point to visit! 😁
*Have you tried to eat "Spiku Kuno" at Surabaya? This Ancient Spiku is the only one in Surabaya, not opening branches elsewhere and is already famous even in Singapore.*
Oh really! We didn't try it but we wish we had now!
WELCOME TO BANDUNG MISS

Ahh, that'd make sense! Was does Paris van Java mean? 😅
@@DisappearforDays search google please 😊🙏
Enjoy my hometown guys!
You come from Bandung? That's awesome! We really loved exploring the town, such a nice friendly town and perfect weather! 😃
Bandung from malaysia
We always wondered if it's where Sirap Bandung originated from 😂
6:43 the monument is dedicated to all the
Health workers who died while on duty responding to the Covid-19 pandemic
Oh really! That's such a special monument. They were such brave workers ❤️

Go to white crater ....😊
We did see about that, but didn't have the right clothes for it as we saw it got very cold! 🥶
It used to snow and hail there but now it rarely happens for a long time

Bandung , west java , etnis sunda
We had no idea there were so many ethnicities in Indonesia! 🤯
Since hundred years ago..Bandung was called Paris Van Java
Oh really! What does Paris van Java mean?
They had festivals there before? That sounds great! 😸 We thought we had done well learning BI, but had no idea there were so many dialects 😂
Tapi hey, maaf kalau aku jadi meracau
Aku tidak bermaksud apa-apa, selain berharap semoga perjalanan kalian teman-teman di negeri ini mendapat kesan, menjadi bermakna
Salam hangat dari ku 🤗
7:18 Gedung Sate isnt a museum. Only part of the building is a museum. The main building itself is the office for the West Java Governor.
I was sure I'd seen something, so at least I'm not fully crazy 😂 we wish we had been able to look inside!
I’m Indonesian and I don’t understand what the writings on the wall mean. I believe it is written in Sundanese. Some words like “batu=stone” is the same. Sila means pillar(s).
I'm glad it wasn't only us that didn't understand 😂 we knew only very little also 😅
Next Explorer to Gili Trawangan Lombok, Kuta Lombok, mount Rinjani Lombok, see orang utan in bukit Lawang nort Sumatra, lake Toba Samosir nort Sumatra, Mentawai west Sumatra, lake Banggai Sulawesi, and labuan bajo komodo dragon island in Flores INDONESIA 🇮🇩🙏
There is so much still left to explore! 🤯
The flag had been a question mark...😮
Oh really? 😯
i love u sis/sir
Aww what a lovely comment 😍 thank you for joining us on our journey 😊😊
Been to Malang? The bandung of East Java, a resort of people working in Surabaya back in the dutch colonial era...i think Malang is more organised and tidier than Bandung
Oh we didn't visit there, maybe we will have to when we are back next! 😁
Gedung Sate serves as the official office of the Governor of West Java Province and is not a museum, therefore, there are frequent demonstrations protesting government policies.
Oh really? We thought we had seen online that it was a museum, but must have misread it! It makes sense as to why there was a lot of security 😅
By the way if you're leaving Bandung and heading to Jogjakarta. You might try the Argo Wilis panoramic train ride
We unfortunately didn't get the panoramic train, but it looks really beautiful! Maybe next time ☺️
Selamat Datang guys😊
Terima Kasih! ❤️❤️
Because of the international chefs like Martin Yan, Chef Wan, Tony Bourdain, Gordon Ramsay & others, Gula Melaka is more well known worldwide. Maple syrup too can be made into Gula Melaka, its simply the solidification process of the boiled sap.
It's got such a unique and distinct flavour, we love it! 😃
short answer : Yes
Definitely, 100%, without a doubt, yes! 😃
Bandung is West Java province capital and not Jakarta cause Jakarta is it's own province which called DKI (Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota) Jakarta. Jakarta isn't west Java
That makes sense! It was confusing us like crazy! 😅🤣
It’s analogous to Washington DC. District of Columbia is not part of the State of Maryland.
Like the Australian Capital Territory is not part of New South Wales. 🙂
nowadays Bandung is hot.
It was still much cooler than other places we've visited in South East Asia, so we were happy for that 😅
Yeah Bandung is still cooler than most cities in SEA although it is not as cool as it used to be 😔@@DisappearforDays
Why did you put the Malaysian flag on it? Bandung from Indonesia

Is not gula malaka but is gula jawa
Ahh okay, is it derived from the same palm sugar?
@@DisappearforDays
Simillar, basicly its palm sugar.
go to lembang or ciwidey 👍
You'll have to keep your eyes peeled and sub to see where we head next! 😉👀
Yes, but sila can also please but in more limited use. Like silakan makan, silakan masuk..
We were going to say, on Duo Lingo it's been teaching Silakan = Please. We didn't know it was only in specific situations 🤦😅
@DisappearforDays sila is sankrit language(maybe local bahasa)Sila it's mean basic...si dasa sila bandung it's mean Ten basic of bandung..look like panca sila (panca=5(five/lima),and sila=dasar(basic),panca sila(5 dasar)pancasila=5 dasar(five basic;pilar nation)...correct me of i'm wrong,and appologize my English too bad..
It's better to provide Indonesian subtitles, so that those who watch it who don't speak English can understand better 🙏
Hi! So you should be able to select 'auto-generated' subtitles on UA-cam down at the bottom right cog wheel on our videos! Hope this helps 😊
Oh that's so interesting! We had no idea, it could well be why we didn't understand as many words! 🤦😂
@@DisappearforDaysyup, idk if you notice but a lot of signs (road sign, name sign, etc) in bandung actually written in 2 different systems one is in Indonesia (roman) one (usually under it) is in Sundanese writing system.
Hallo.. On my channel I also discuss the city of Bandung. Nice video, beautyfull city
Oh awesome, we will give it a look! Thank you for watching ☺️
3:18 not because your knowledge of Indonesian language is bad, but it is a regional language (local language), not Indonesian language 😊

We did, it was amazing! Watch our video on our channel to see 😊
Go ciwidey😂😂
Where abouts is ciwidey? We haven't heard of it!
What you read is Sundanese, not Indonesian. Sundanese is the native language of West Java. So, it is natural that you cannot understand. Hopefully, you will always be healthy, happy, and well.
Thank you for your well wishes! We were so confident when we went up to read it, and it humbled us fast! 😂😂😂
70% of Malaysians are of Indonesian descent
That's an interesting fact! We don't know much about history, but if that's correct that's quite something! 😊

the monument is not in indonesian language, that's sunda language
That's makes sense why we couldn't understand! 😧
Did you really put a Malaysian flag on a Bandung video? Oh boyyy, 😝 Indonesians are generally meek and forgiving, we tend to overlook all kinds of offenses and brush them off like it’s no big deal… But *never* when it comes to slapping a Malaysian flag on anything Indonesian 🤣
Don’t feel too bad for not understanding what’s written on the wall, though-it’s not in Indonesian. It’s actually Sundanese, the local language (not dialect) spoken mainly in West Java, where Bandung is the capital. And just to be clear: *Sundanese* and not Sudanese. If you're curious about the meaning, here's basically what the first part of the poem says:
ᮜᮨᮙᮂ ᮘᮩᮀᮠᮁ ᮊᮥ ᮘᮨᮁᮊᮂ, ᮜᮍᮤᮒ᮪ ᮕᮤᮔᮥᮂ ᮊᮥ ᮛᮂᮙᮒ᮪

The earth rich with blessings, the sky full of grace
This belongs to the living: a gift from ancestors past
Tended through labor, nurtured in prayer

A place of joy and endless laughter
Bustling like a river rushing over stones
This is your inheritance: where borders meet fields of green
Like a meadow from a fairytale dream.
Hahaha, it was such a rookie error, hopefully we are forgiven for such a crime 😂
Thank you for the translation! We would never have known otherwise and had no idea Sudanese was a different language to BI! 😯
Indonesia has over 300 languages, and these aren’t just dialects like Penang Malay and Johor Malay or Mandarin and Hakka; they’re entirely different languages.
Please is silahkan
We learnt this on Duolingo! 😃❤️
In old Malay, Bandung = mixture/combination, hence the Sirap Bandung named after.
Bandung in Indonesia from the word Bendungan = water dam.
That makes a tonne of sense, we had wondered whether it was where Sirap Bandung originated 😂
