Why I closed my real estate brokerage to join EXP Realty

I loved being an independent broker and had no plans of changing that....ever. I had been contacted by several large franchise and boutique brokerages looking to recruit and merge my brokerage into theirs. None made financial sense nor did they offer any value that would be worth leaving what I had built with my agents for.
I had heard of EXP Realty from a few agents before, but none had a relationship with me or even presented properly what they had to offer, so I just ignored it and realized I wanted to try to avoid EXP agents since they seemed to always be targeting other agents.
Along comes Monica McDonald in summer of 2020. We closed on a transaction and for one year she continued to invite me for lunch or coffee. Seeing she was from EXP, I kindly rejected her offer. It wasn't until summer of 2021 when she invited my husband and I for a "no strings attached" trip to Dallas, TX for the Build 21 conference to see Tony Robbins that I said yes. I mean, who wouldn't?
I went with the expectation of taking away what I learned and applying it to my own brokerage to further elevate my agents. By day two of the conference, I had interviewed and spoken with respected independent brokers and franchise owners that I had known from coaching that were now with EXP. That became our game changer. I asked hundreds of questions and realized that it didn't make sense not to join.
I merged Waypointe Realty into EXP Realty as Waypointe Group in November of 2021 and have continued to grow and expand my agents all over the U.S. where I had been previously limited geographically. The collaboration has been a game changer.
The main complaint I see about EXP is not feeling supported by their sponsor. Well, that can happen at any brokerage and you don't even get a sponsor, but I love training, mentoring and encouraging growth in real estate professionals making this their career. This brokerage has given me the opportunity to do that everywhere.
