If the station no longer functions as a good interchange then it is a shame to waste the infrastructure. Building more around it makes sense, as long as it doesn't take away too much green space for the locals.
would have been worth mentioning it hasn't completely lost its use as a transfer station. i regularly used it coming from hilversum to transfer to the metro, for example, but that is basically all it's got left yeah
Duivendrecht is not part of Amsterdam but just a small village. That is just the whole point. That is also why the station is named Duivendrecht and not Amsterdam Duivendrecht. The whole concept of the station was to be used as a remote transportation hub (as you correctly pointed out) and not as a local station in itself.
Yes, Duivendrecht is quirky village next to Amsterdam and Amsterdam Zuid Oost. Only 2 entry and exit for cars. The second entry and exist runs through residential streets. It is like Duivendrecht wants to remain hidden from plain sight.
There was one planological thing which has influenced Duivendrecht station and its (empty) surroundings a lot : an agreement was made not to build offices around the station for a period of I think 20 or 30 years. Why : the Zuid-as (South-axis) was being developed around station A'dam-Zuid, and it was considered necessary there would be a focus on that area to give it a chance.
It's true that there was an agreement to not build around the duivendrecht station when it was build. but wasn't it Amsterdam's plan to build a office district at the IJ instead of the Zuidas? but that the office builders didn't want that because the zuidas was a much better location considering the airport.
3:47 the line to Gein started exploitation in 1977 with line 54. In ‘97 line 50 also started servicing this station as they share part of their routes.
I don't disagree with you necessarily regarding Duivendrecht's location. However, I think that conceptually it works quite well - a lot better than most of its generation (Lelystad, Almere and don't get me @#%@%%$ started on Sloterdijk) even. It's easy to orient yourself, distances are short and it's light and roomy. Okay, it's a pity Metro 53 doesn't stop at a lower level (they planned to but cancelled it at the last minute), but in terms of orientation I rather like it. Build some stuff around it, and it could be a very useful hub.
I definitely think the development should happen. It looks really dense and I'd much rather say yes to developing out high density in an existing urban area than the alternative, which is often low density construction further out where it harms more nature to house the same number of people.
De grootste fout is dat de treinen stoppen met rijden daar vanaf 12 of 1 uur ik heb gisteren helemaal naar Amsterdam Zuid moeten lopen omdat de treinen er mee opgehouden

the station itself is very compact indeed. there is nothing wrong with the way they build it

Great video!
1:43 the air displaced by the intercity train makes the glass wall vibrate - can you feel the extra pressure in your ears?
I do not
