I rode the light rail in Frankfurt, Germany way back in 1974. It covered the whole city and
the suburbs. They never discontinued their light rail. Just improved the system. So glad
US cities have got on board a mode of transportation that is clean and efficient. Very
proud to see it all become reality.

Los Angeles works in geologic time building these things, but hopefully in a few millions years we'll catch up with the EU. :)

ava gd - America loves to destroy their assets so they can rebuild them twice as slowly some 60 years later. Germany, like most of Europe and Asia, never had the desire to be as corrupt as the US in that respect.

@@PinkLaffs No. America is young and it loves cars. LA had one of the most extensive rail transport systems in the world before the 1940s, but a lot of infrastructure on the American West coast were built after cars became common and popular.

I lived in LA from '72 to '79...long before any of this existed. I cannot begin to imagine what it must have taken to build all that rail lines with the traffic that already existed. Sure is a nice looking system.

Actually the line did "exist" in another form as the "Santa Monica Air Line," which was part of the Pacific Electric "Red Car" system before being dismantled in the 50s by bus makers. A sad story, really.

Nice job. It looks like they spent more money on the RoW on this one, compared to Long Beach. In LB they just slapped down some blacktop, but here they made everything nice concrete and fitted it well.

Hey Snuffy - make sure you go to the bathroom before even going to the line. There are no restrooms there and none off site. Should have had the executives ride the rail and commute to downtown.

46-52 minutes on the Expo Line and runs every 6 minutes. Driving depends on the time of day and if there's an event going on at the Staples Center. Going to Santa Monica in light or no traffic takes around 30-45 minutes. In traffic about 1 hour 10 minutes (possible extra 10-15 if there's an event). To DTLA with little to no traffic about 30-45 minutes. With traffic about 1 1/2 hours or more.

Hi! Awesome video, man. I'm thinking of studying in Los Angeles and I wasn't sure how the transportation system was there. It looks great. Although, why does the train seem to be going so slow? Can't it go a bit faster?

    • @randombiketrips3296

What school are you going to? The Subway system is underrated out here. The only gripe I have is it is pretty slow in expansion, although it is getting better and wider with new lines added and being built. Also, the trains do not run 24 hours. I wish they would at least have it running until three or four in the morning. Maybe shut it down for cleaning and maintenance checks for an hour or two and have it back up at six in the morning.
Anyway, they're pretty efficient. I used to rely on driving so much until I got into cycling and it's much, much more efficient and cost-saving together when compared to driving every single day.

The whole Metro system is loaded with homeless, crazies, and freeloaders with no security no matter where you ride. No amount of saved money is worth your safety and health. It was fun at first, but I now drive everywhere and am safer for doing it. Never again.

The train doesn't make many stops. I saw several questionable passengers on the video. I'm quite sure I could not board the train. I would be rather nervous of being assaulted by such passengers. With so many guns and unsavory types across America. One can never be sure now days.
