    Duuuude! Thank you for this. I bought my son a ttr50 last month. This exact idle issue has been plaguing us since day 1. Its been super frustrating, especially for him. Today he really wanted to ride but I told him I would have to pull and clean the carb first. I stumbled upon your vid and BAM! She's running like a champ now!! I owe you a beer.

    You kinda got them switched. The one on the front near the throttle cable is the idle screw (it raises or lowers the idle to a correct 1600-1800 rpm after you've set the mixture), the other one is the air/fuel mixture screw.

      The 2021 model shows that first screw as the idle set screw (flat head knurled screw near throttle cable). The other screw isnt labeled, but its no longer covered. I tried screwing that in all the way and the engine stops (even when holding the throttle back). It was set to 1.25 turns out.

      The Yamaha dealership that I bought mine from said the screw by the throttle was a “governor” to control the speed until my son was ready to go faster.
      Definitely need to get past this Welch plug so my sons bike doesn’t die non stop

      Obviously Yamaha does not care since they have basically not change anything on these bikes in over a decade. Very sad that these entry level bikes should be feeding families into the Moto world but for many, including myself it is a big disappointment. This is why eventually electric bikes will get there and there will less parts to screw with

    Do you know if the 110 is similar? Mine runs good but has a really low idle and tends to stall a lot

    • @realmmfc
      @realmmfc  3 роки тому +2

      The placement isn’t the same, but the 110 does have an idle adjustment and air screw. On the 110, the idle screw is directly on the side of the carb.

    Oddly enough my 2021 I just bought flames out constantly. Wouldn’t even idle. Just would die without partial throttle. I turned that screw further and further to the left. Sounds like we had similar issues but needed a different adjustment.

    That’s the fuel screw man, your idle is below your throttle cables on the carb, little flat head screw, adjusting your fuel screw could cause it to be too lean or too rich.

    Tried this. Drill the little brass cap out. Turned the screw out. Turned the screw in. It doesn't matter. Bike will not idle. Revs with the choke on slowly drop then it dies. Choke off it dies. Engine is so hot I can't touch the pipe guard (from holding the throttle open manually). Piece of trash. Bike is brand new.

      @@realmmfcI think I figured it out. There is a knurled screw beside the throttle cable insertion. Someone claimed it is the governor, but it is the idle speed screw. It was set to basically 0 rpm from the dealer, so I had to actively hold the throttle open for it to run.

  • @bigboi8592

    Dude that is pilot screw you are playing with.
    The idle screw is accessible already. Obviously they wouldn’t plug the idle screw it doesn’t harm your enegine when people play with them. But the pilot screw on the other hand can that’s why they plug it
