These types of construction projects where a building is built on top of an existing parking garage is both interesting and ingenious use of space. I find it especially interesting as there are 2 such buildings within a couple blocks of me... and I happen to live in one. My particular apartment building was built in 1985 and was built on top of a parking garage and drive-thru bank from 1951. Apartments are on floors 6-10 and there are 3 floors of offices underneath us. Just up the street, Holiday Inn built a 3 story suite atrium above their 6 story parking garage/shopping mall adjacent to their 16 story hotel tower. The atrium has an additional indoor pool & glass elevator serving just those floors (8-10). This nice video you've shared with us from Roanoke shows the construction of just such a project very well done. Thanks for the nice tour.
Thanks! Honestly, that very reason is why I decided to make this video. For years I as well wondered what that ramp was for (and some other things in the garage). When I went to Roanoke for the first time, I explored these garages a lot to answer these questions of mine. It just took me a while to go out and actually make these lol
These elevators were famous before the Hampton Inn was built on top, but it has gained even more attention since the hotel opened. Maybe after this pandemic is over I wouldn't mind spending a few nights here at this hotel then I could get all the elevators on video.
@@stlelevators you know just for the heck of it it probably wouldn't hurt to ask. The only downside of the elevators in the hotel is that the guest floors are locked off with the card reader now. Andrew was there meeting up with someone to go film elevators around Roanoke and they had a card reader on the elevators.
Great video! This parking garage has a similar lay out to The Schiller Street Parking Garage in Elmhurst, Illinois. Dover elevators with some Thyssenkrupp modifications to them. I’ve always wondered for years if that one side of the garage with the stair well has had the rear elevator based on how the windows were showing. On the southeast corner.
Very interesting video! I noticed most of these things when I stayed at that Hampton but there were a few things I missed. Glad somebody else thought this garage was weird and interesting aside from the elevators.
Thanks! That was the idea for it. The first time I went to Roanoke, I had a lot of unanswered questions and curiosities about this place and that's what inspired me to make this video.
Greetings from Michigan. I came across your channel with a particular interest and unique fascination with parking garages. Not much interest in elevators, but great video!
I already have one more of these videos made up, I just want to see how they perform before putting the time into more. (These take a while to make and film)
Just because of how big and confusing this garage is. This reminds me of the Pine Street Ramp in Green Bay Wisconsin because that ramp feels very confusing too. Even though i have seen both ramos plenty of times.
the hotel elevators should serve level 4 of the parking garage. one end of that elevator ride MUST BE the hotel. 7 button would be unlocked with the card reader. you could do level 4 to or from the hotel or level G to or from the hotel.

Thanks! Most people think about this place for the elevators, and while the elevators are cool, the structure itself is unique.
@@stlelevators dieselducy filmed these elevators
I've wondered where that ramp at the main entrance has led for years. I loved this video!

The door below those stairs on the ground floor remains left untouched, I see.
This is a great informational video! You should do more of these in depth videos!
Thanks! I plan on making more.

Yep! I've yet to see the Hampton elevators, but I'm sure someday I will.

Thanks! That was the point of this video! I myself had questions about this garage before seeing it in person.
@@stlelevators i know all about the erie high school elevators brand new otis series 7
This is a unique tour! I think you should do some more in depth tours
“In-depth”? that’s like from KXAN News

Awesome tour! One of my favourite parking garages. The lifts have epic motors.
Thanks! This is definitely an iconic garage.
Nice Walk-around video!
Thanks!
That Elevator At The Market Parking Garage Used To Have A Bumper
here in vancouver at a local mall we have amazing high hydro dovers with amazing motors

You should do something like this to the other garages

@@stlelevators what garage is it? Or is it a surprise?
You’ll see ;)
@@stlelevators alrighty then. I can’t wait

This garage really isn’t all that confusing compared to others.
These lifts still run smooth :) I finally know the colour code for each floor now. Some great views
Glad you enjoyed it!
Too bad I live in the UK because I REALLY want to go there!
Darn! Maybe someday!
The blue paint is starting to peel off of the front elevator in some spots, revealing the yellow underneath
Great job on this walkthrough.
Thanks!
It’s a shame that the chime on the 1st elevator is basically non-existent, because I think the chime is pretty iconic.
your awesome
Thanks!
Nice Dover buzz.
Alrighty!!

Yeah the hotel elevators serving the garage would be nice, though that just adds one potential security issue.
I’m a little shocked that this elevator is not traction driven for 6 floors!
Yea
Awesome
Oh boy, I never noticed somethings when I was here
Yeah that's the idea of the video.
@@stlelevators this is cool
They have 2 elevators.
Chime to the elevator doesn’t ring.
Nice parking garage.
