A great way to build up your rod arsenal is when you find a technique that works well for you in your area by the perfect rod for that technique. It will help you learn more fish and help you to realize that the right rod really does make a big difference. Especially for certain lures
Most glidebait rods are fast action. What differs them is the amount of parabolic bend the backbone has. Action bend is different than parabolic bend. The Action bend is where the bend starts. Parabolic bending rods are going to have slight bend down the backbone of the rod.
Fishing from the bank like I do these days, I carry rods in multiple lengths and actions. Depending on the area where I'm fishing, a rod over 7 feet in length just gets in the way, especially if there's a lot of brush or growth overhead. The shortest rodI use is probably 5'9", but most of my rods run in the 6'6" to 7' range, medium, medium heavy power.
The Ark Cobb series has been my most impressive bang for buck rods so far. I'm really impressed with those. I'd like to check out Cashion at some point but i don't know how good their lower priced rods are.
Daiwa Tatula is what my son and I use for reels. Various different Tatula reels and they leave nothing to be desired. Just got him a 2024 Tatula 100 for $115 on amazon ($200 most places). Paired it with the Tatula XT rod. $225 all in and it performs well above its price point. Some would say that's not budget but relatively speaking, its not expensive. Not for the smoothness and sensitivity it provides.
I've used a bunch of higher end stuff before in the past, and a little under a year ago I got myself a Halo XD III and boy lemme tell you its one of the best rods I have found to date, and its affordable! I have 2 MH 7'3" and 1 H 7'6" and they are my FAVORITE rods to date. I would highly suggest these rods for either the guys on the budget or just someone who wants a amazing rod!
several companies have different values for medium heavy, i feel like a reference to what weight the rod is capable of needs to be included in a rod description. Also a MH 7ft is often rated different than a 7-6. MH in shimano is 1oz typically, dobyns and st criox is .75oz.
Thanks Tyler. In the situation you explained, what baits/techniques would you be using on the spinning rod? Also, if a spinning rod casts further than a baitcaster, why not use a spinningbrod for horizontal baits like chatterbait, crankbait, spinnerbait etc? Thanks
Thanx Tyler. That's great rod info for anyone trying to get the most out of a couple rods. Where were you when I was 15 years old. Oh yea you weren't born yet. For spinning I feel moderate rods loose a little feel and I lean toward fast action, but I see your point. Most less expensive rods ( under $100) are pretty much moderate anyway.
Yet Another Awesome vid. I really appreciate you clarifying this subject. Cause It is very confusing. And since I've followed your advice since I started, It will definitely Help me out a ton. Thank you Tyler. 😎👍
Great video and explanation of power vs action. …. Treble,Mod or ModF, then single hook, F, yep the easiest way to look at it. I’m a bank angler so for power M or MH is really all I need. ….. 7’ - 7’3 ML/F spinning, 7’M/ModF, and then 7’3” MH/F would be by three rods. … in the Ark Cobb series, Fairy Wand, One More, and the Do-All. Can’t be beat.
Coming from California I feel like this is an underrated topic for beginners or just people on a budget that wanna upgrade a little bit 18 years on nice fish still learning hard to try everything .....
What i carry with me is a 7' ul spinning a 7' medium spinning and a 7' 3 medium heavy baitcasting. I can target everything from bluegill and trout to bass with those i just cant do the like 2 oz swim baits
The ark rods are pretty good for the price. If your budget allows the price of an expride, they punch way above their price tag. I’ve got a legend extreme and my expride is not much less of a rod for almost $400 less. Just wait for TW Black Friday sale again this year and you can score 20% off most of the rods you’d ever want.
I fish all I can and I am on a very tight budget I don't have the means for the high end rods but I do catch a good number of bass I have learned how to work a bass with my cheap rods I rarely lose or miss landing fish just wondering how much difference it would be to use high end rod
Ark rods are extremely nice rods for the money. I have a few of the newer Tharp rods but the new Wes Logan signature by them are very good. Super light, well balanced and the quality is top notch. I caught them on sale during Black Friday; they’re normally $160 but got 30% off and free shipping. I will definitely be buying more in the future and line out my arsenal with every technique specific rod in that series.
Ark is my favorite brand of rods and reels now. I own about 7 of their rods now. I love the Cobb series and it’s hard to beat for 100 dollars and also I have bought 4 of them cause I bought them when it was on the Black Friday sale. Can’t beat the good deals. Cobb series are incredible for the budget.
I have 6 ark rods like them a lot but I do have one issue with them and that's they all have micro or mini line guides. They are a pain if you want to run braid to a leader lol
Tyler grate grate video. I have ask 4 other youtubers this question. Jig rod 73 MH in the ben of the rod tip back 4 guides line goes under the rod between the guides and rubs. I have broken 2 rods. I have 4 rods that dose this. Bass X Low Rider TFO and Lews . All 140$ and under. Thank you

I'm a budget fisherman. Kastking is what I use. Especially if you catch them on sale. ❤
Whats your expierence with kastking?
I have two Kastkings and both perform well. I have a medium price,$120, and the iReel which is their tip of the line. Both are great.
As a 2 rod guy on somewhat of a budget, this is perfect! Thanks so much for all the great info in these videos!

Thank you - only going into my third year of fishing - great info. as I grow my fishing rod collection

Great job on the video. I couldn't agree with you more!
St Croix’s “XF” jerkbait rods always felt like a clear example that there is no industry standard for rod actions
Thanks for the info
