I heard this recording when I was just boy in Taiwan. Zukerman’s rendition of Wieniawski became my favorite. Unfortunately in the 70’s the only thing we can purchase are reprint from Taiwanese record label and I don’t know if they have copyright issues! I was waiting all these for a CD re-release but it never happened. Thanks for posting.
An amazing performance. Zukerman was definitely one of the greats. He was my teacher's teacher, which makes him my grandteacher in a way. Weird to think about.
Thank you so much for posting this performance of Pinchas Zukerman. It’s flawless and certainly exquisite. As a graduate student at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Campus of Fordham University (Jesuit institution) in the 70’s, I took advantage of student discounts at all Lincoln Center’s venues (NY Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, NYC Ballet, Juilliard School). Consequently, I became aware of Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas as violin contemporaries and eventually felt sad that the latter appeared to be increasingly overshadowed by the former. Who am I to judge the virtuosity between the two? I still have the record of his work with Claude Bolling’s jazz compositions so, that’s a comfort.
Zukerman’s recording of The Elgar Concerto is epic. Having a heck of a time finding his Lalo Symphonie Espanol. I had it on vinyl as a kid and really loved it.
What do you mean "have been out of print"? As in.... were held back for release? CD's *do* just go out of print. A company can only make so many due to supply and demand. The world has since going digital. These are available digitally (Spotify, iTunes and such). I remember my local CD store from 2006 sold me their last "Yuri Bashmet Plays Brahms" CD and said they're not able to order in any more since the factory closed down.... If Zukerman has recorded anything, trust me, it's out there. You just have to know where to look! I personally am looking for a recording of Zukerman playing Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with Vladimir Spivakov on violin. It's a rare recording and I can't find the CD anywhere... but *many* people will own it. It's not on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon etc.... so it's just a matter of time before someone uploads it to UA-cam. Of course there's the chance that that won't happen since mostly older people own CDs and they won't know how to rip a CD and/or upload to a platform such as UA-cam. Also it could be subject to a copyright claim and could be taken down pretty quickly. Anyway, agreed that this rendition is amazing and we're so lucky to have it. I'm so grateful it has been uploaded :)
I've been waiting an aeon for this recording paired with Kabalevsky violin concerto + Bloch Nigun on the LP to appear on UA-cam (or indeed anywhere on t'internet) - thanks Benedek for posting this (and the Bloch on another of your videos). This is by far and away one of my favourite versions of this Wieniawski concerto. If you have the Kabalevsky concerto - would you be able to post that in a video as well? Many thanks again!
