  • I'm sure many of you have amassed quite a few locos and various pieces of rolling stock over time. Checking coupler height and making adjustments to coupler height can be a daunting task. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Set a little time aside each week and start to check coupler height. Keep track of which cars meet or don't meet coupler height spec. and log on a spreadsheet. Set some time aside to fix one or two cars each week. . . or skip a few weeks. Eventually, it will get done and you'll have rolling stock that couples properly and you will experience fewer uncoupling's.

One step ahead of you. As I acquire rolling stock I check the couplers, wheels, and the weight loaded/empty. So when I build a train I will know the weight I'm pulling.

That is a stunning Athearn DD40X ! I make it a habit when building kits to check the couple height. How many freight cars ya gotta go through ? Thanks for sharing Fren.
