    Cycling is not about upgrades, or Pinarello. Cycling is about sportsmanship, passion, and leisure. Upgrades are about marketing, sales, and gadgets. The best cyclist in the World started with absolutely nothing, just cheap bike often no brand by today's standarts.

    I love cycling in Singapore! The roads are safe and smooth, there's an eclectic mix of people enjoying the sport, there are plenty of good cafes for coffee breaks and there are some terrific bunch rides.
    You don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy the sport, but if you can afford it, why not!

      Yeah agreed. I am a cyclist and I think as a cyclist, we shouldn't be going to a dead end street where people live. They wanted a quiet street to start with. Go elsewhere where there is a thoroughfare so not everyone congregate at the end.

    you know its sad when people purposely go to 4th Ave because it's a "Climb" lol. Also a lot of posers and poser groups after covid. I don't see this type of cyclists in other countries, who really don't care what brand of clothing or bike you use. esp those group from the PeNiS cycling club hahaha, I avoid them like the plague! They say cycling is one of many forms of escape, but here in SG, there's no escaping these poser creatures.

    It is sad to note that Singaporean cyclists on the whole are very brand conscious, way more that other countries where cycling as a sport is even more established. Unfortunately, the dearth of routes where people can cycle on the island means everyone is gathered around a few spots and this draws out all the poseurs. True, there are poseurs everywhere in the world but other countries offer a greater variety of routes and options so the cycling scene is more diverse and healthy.

    • @out_spocken

      That might be a cultural thing at large? Less an issue specific to cycling?

    • @justinbergmans36
      @justinbergmans36 5 місяців тому +7

      There’s nothing wrong with being brand conscious with bikes. The best bikes are the established brands, and as a consequence, are pricey. I do believe it’s probably helpful to start out with an entry level road bike and move up. Than you can appreciate the differences

    whilst there are really bad and inconsiderate drivers who are a danger to other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, there are also very bad cyclists who expect pedestrians to yield to them at zebra or traffic crossings, and that's both dangerous and unlawful. it cuts both ways. exercise consideration and we will have a better society. the other major danger are the foreign workers driving the vans/trucks and public buses.

    BTW, Marco Cycles or anyone, can tell me if it is safe to park say a $3.5-5k tops Giant TCR/Propel/Defy (probably will keep it bone stock, dont have much disposable $ to spend) just outside the HDB flat along the corridor 2m away from the front door? Properly locked for both front wheels + frame. I just might install a CCTV + LAN cable + conduit as well for additional visual deterrence, neighbours no issue atm. Or is it just better to get a Java Air Fuoco with 105 R7120 for around 2k and be done with it.....i know some would say it's a s*** bike but i gotta be practical as well, due to constraints.

    I like riding faster from time to time but I don't mind being dropped;
    part and parcel of riding and I know exactly why I ride. No loss
    of face being dropped; ride and be happy for the ride, not to keep
    up with someone else's ass.

    A lot of snide remarks about the cyclists and their bikes. Which is a bit unfortunate, as cycling should be inclusive. Anything that gets people out of their cars and onto their bikes should be a good thing. Nothing in "The Rules" that says only the ultra fit should ride expensive bikes. If you are lucky enough to afford one, and you get enjoyment from riding it, then why not?
    Note: The cyclist who rode up Fourth Ave in a recumbent deserves a medal in my book.
