Looks like age is catching up with me quick. I'm starting to have problems now that I didn't think would be happening for another 5-10 years.
I've had a poor oral history all my life. The first few years were fine. Ultimately, when I was in the second grade, I needed to get braces. Long and short of the story was I had braces for 11 years. 11 agonizing years. This orthodontist tried every trick in the book, and kept stringing me along for years until I finally had had enough. If I didn't put my foot down, it probably would have gone on for more years. That will become important in a minute.
A few weeks ago, I was eating, and enjoyed. But something just seemed a bit off. I couldn't quite figure it out. A couple of weeks later, I was eating something else, and once again, something was just a bit off. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. Something was different.
The other day I happened to put a finger in my mouth and noticed a front tooth of mine is loose. I went to the dentist and they took x-rays. I have an infection in the gum above that tooth. But unfortunately, the tooth cannot be saved.
One thing the destist pointed out to me was that my teeth all have very short roots. She said she had never seen any that short before. So I mentioned I had braces for 11 years. The dentist didn't have the light bulb over her head, she lit up as if she WERE the light bulb and said "That explains all of it!"
I have severe root resorption. Root resorption is a process where the body's immune system breaks down and absorbs the tissue around a tooth, eventually dissolving the tooth's root structure. While this does happen to everyone to a degree, the braces, especially for that very extended period of time, did me in---likely for life.
So not only am I going to lose this tooth, but there may be more in the future because of this. Braces cause accelerated root resorption. After this many years of course, there is no recourse I have.
The dentist gave me two options for replacing the tooth. The first is a bridge, a cheaper option. The second is a dental implant. I spoke with my father, who happens to have an implant, and he strongly advised against the bridge. He explained that it's going to put more stress on existing teeth, and considering the fact that they're not particularly strong because of the root resorption, it's not really going to be a good option for me. So I will need to get an implant.
The implant process can range from 3 to 9 months, it may be shorter or longer than that. It's an involved process and takes multiple visits. But once done, that tooh should be back in business. Better still, it will function as a natural tooth would, and is attached to the bone.
In the interim, I can't walk around with a missing front tooth, so I will need to wear a "flipper" denture. This is a device that is basically like a denture an elderly person might have, except it's just one tooth, to fill in the missing area.
Being that this is all cosmetic in nature, insurance doesn't cover it. So I will have to pay out of pocket. I'm not asking for help or setting up a gofundme or anything like that. If you'd like to send me something privately, it would be appreciated. You can get my email address from the "more about this channel" link on my channel page.
Ultimately, this will likely impact the channel. I have a feeling my speech will be affected. I'm going to ask that you all bear with me during this process, and hopefully, by the end of it all, I'll be speaking normally again.
It's a very sad time for me. This will be the second part of my body that I'll lose. I'm trying to keep busy to keep my mind off all of this.

Hearing loss combined with Tinnitus is most times caused by excessive stress and also sometimes headphone use. I've had that two times so far, one time from too much stress and the other time I think it might have been headphones being set a bit too loud for a bit too long.
I've pretty much stopped using headphones and so far there hasn't been another occurrence of acute hearing loss so far.
As for losing one of the front teeth, here's my "it could be worse" story from 2017: Long story short, I ran into a partly closed swinging metal garage door with my mouth during a thunderstorm as I was stupid and didn't open it all the way and wanted to hurry up as it was raining heavily.
Until that event, I've never had a bad tooth at all and that sinking feeling when I felt the severe bleeding and mostly missing tooth after hitting the garage door has burnt itself into my memory.
Luckily the technology exists to have replacement teeth installed, even though it'll be painful, expensive and annoying to get there (and it won't ever feel the same), but it's a part of getting old nobody can avoid.
Maybe you should get a "Toothless" T-shirt whenever the tooth is finally removed (the one with the toothless dragon) - that way you could jokingly tell people that you're starting to get your teeth removed so it'll match your T-shirt 😅😅

Only time I use headphones is when I edit videos. Volume is set to 40%, so that can't be it. Stress, oh yeah. Lots to do around here every single day. This is my busy time of year. I jump from one task to the next, don't sleep much, and keep carrying on the next day. Soon, that will be over and I'll have a reprieve.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Yep, happens to people indeed. I'll just have to deal with it, that's all. That's all I CAN do.

I cracked a tooth biting in to a chewy starburst. That was pulled and a couple of others were pulled too. One kind of broke late december this year, so that will likely have to get pulled later this year. I never went to the dentist until I got in my 40s. I should have got braces when I was a kid, but yeah tight wades n all.

Amazing how stuff like that can crack a tooth. All I know is that it's not fun having to lose one. You never know what you have until you've lost it.

Doing some research there appears to be some dental insurance that will cover implants at like 50% and limit 1 a year or something like that. I don't know if 1D dental is available in your area but that's what I use. It's not insurance its like a discount plan for prescriptions but it applies to dental procedure's instead. It's like $10 a month. I can email you the link if you want.

Well I told you that I haven't really had problems with my teeth aside from a few cavities. That's not exactly true although not false either. When I was in high school I was a varsity swimmer. I did it for three years, sophomore through senior. During my Junior year I was on two swim teams concurrently, my high school team and a local age group swim team that had kids from under 8 to 18. During a meet I fell off the starting block and hit the bottom of the pool face first. After hitting the bottom of the pool my two front top teeth were loose as well as each tooth has several fractures where they cracked but didn't break off. My mother took me to the dentist to have them checked out and he basically told me they will probably firm back up again in time, just don't eat anything that I would need to bite with them for a while. As far as the fractures go he told me fractured teeth are kind of like a cracked window pane, they can last like that for years and years or you could bump them tomorrow and they will be more likely to break off. So far they are still hanging in there 41 or 42 years later. No cavities in either one. My dentist thinks one of them is dead as it's darker then the other one and she wants to do a root canal on it. I don't think it's dead as I still have hot and cold sensation in it so I live with a darker front tooth rather than kill it permanently for cosmetic reasons. So aside from that I haven't had a problem with my teeth and yes my teeth did firm back up in time.
When you get your tooth pulled don't forget to put it under your pillow. The tooth fairy might bring you a quarter if you've been a good boy.😉

Cool story. I did read that the teeth can firm back up, but chances are good mine is gone as nothing has happened yet. It's definitely shifted, I can feel it, and as I stated I can hear the tiniest difference in my speech.

This story is a great demonstration of how american healthcare is, they don't always know what's best for you and they just want your money. I can imagine the braces were just so you'd have to shell out more money later on.

      @jaykay18  3 місяці тому

My sister said the same thing. While American healthcare isn't great, in other countries, it's far far worse. We do have some of the most sophisticated tehcnology out there. Go to some third world country and have a heart attack, they don't know how to do open heart surgery. You'll be lucky if you make it back here, where _maybe_ something can be done.
