Richard Alva Cavett (/ˈkævɪt/; born November 19, 1936) is an American television personality and former talk show host. He appeared regularly on nationally broadcast television in the United States for five decades, from the 1960s through the 2000s.
Although I am grateful that Mr. Carson's shows are on youtube, I greatly miss Ed McMahon's opening announcement, and the original music provided by Doc Severinsen and the NBC Orchestra. They were part of the Cultural Lexicon for so long.
Ha, actually he wasn't far off with his joke about 40 yrs later and a head of lettuce costing 400k. Just came from the grocery store, 8.49 for a pound of butter - we could all use some of that free butter right about now lol
carson considered cavett a great threat to his show's success in the 70's. I'd guess carson felt very comfortable towards cavett at this point of his career.
Richard Burton was superstitious, and he wore Red Socks and Red Underwear Shorts on the Dick Cavet Show that he appeared on, and he took his shoes off, and he left his shoes off during the show. I love it.

It was J I Rodale, and he died on June 8, 1971, while appearing on the Cavett show.
