This takes me back to my early railfan days in Berkeley, CA. SP was the main freight line and those Nathan P3 horns were a familiar sound. The nearby city of Richmond, CA still has a street named "Espee" which runs along the side of the tracks which of course are now UP.
Hey if you can can we see videos made in the 1970s and 1980s of Southern Pacifica territory's from Tehachapi Loop and Cajon Pass areas of the SP Railroad I would love to see more of this time era
And to think there are now houses scattered all over those mountains, all the locos are either scrapped(minus some of the ac44's) or tagged with graffiti, and all those signal bridges are long gone lol. I do miss 90s and early 2000s railroading though, it was definitely a great fun time.
@@fredeisen7401 indeed, back in the day it wasnt just about money but there was a ton more passion involved. Today its literally just a machine moving money and thats it.
Sure, please do I appreciate your asking. It will be cool to get some credit for some of my video work. Do I need to sign a form to give you permission?
@@fredeisen7401 No, I just have to put your name in my video and in the description, I will also put the link to your channel. You don't have to do anything lol
SP was a great railway to watch in its day.
yes it was. But at the time they did not maintain the locomotive very well.
@@fredeisen7401 If so, that was really a shame! It was a great machine to watch!
Man those EMD's we worked *hard* back then!!

Thanks for sharing. Miss the old SP
Another great time capsule railfanning catch!
I operated the 9742 on the point of the Coast Starlight out of LA. Ran like a scalded hound! That's what AMT needed, a couple of hundred of them!
Cool!!

Charles not sure I have any videos that old even though I started railfanning in 1970.
Southern Pacific, roll on, roll on!
Love the old SP the old griswold crossing gate and the old searchlight train signals
I live less than 5 miles from those locations. I drive through San Timoteo canyon multiple times per week! Great scenery!
I agree!
Canyon looks so different now with all the new houses the bridge and golf courses.
Hey Fred, that is great SP footage! Thanks for sharing. /Frank

I agree. Today's railroading with the exception of shortlines is very boring!

And more locomotive manufacturer's locomotives still in revenue service.
I also miss the "clickety clack" of the wheels going over the joints. Seems like they welded together all of the rails on the tracks near me nowadays
What a coincidence my name is Walt and so is your friends and I love the sp
Hey, I saw Stobe the Hobo on one of those cars.
That P3 horn at the end sounds a little off tone
All those 645s and 710s and P3s, oh my!
