Well done, Sam. I think there were a number of sound effects being played through hidden speakers in that tunnel especially. But you captured the atmosphere very well. With your method of filming, you could make almost anything appear ghostly..looks as if the fort is quite large.
I'd agree with you, if we heard the sounds while in the tunnel. But we didn't. The only sounds we heard were from the video room, but you can tell which ones they are. No whistling was heard while walking the tunnel
Hi Sam, Thanks for taking us round this fort, looks like you both enjoyed the visit. They've made a good job with the restauration, lots of details to see. It reminds me of Portsmouth, where I used to live. In fact the first explorations I ever did were in similar forts there. To mitigate the threat from France many fortifications were built. Portsmouth had a ring of forts built stretching from the hill above the city right out into the sea. They became known as the Palmerston Follies after Lord Palmerston who had them built. As the 19th century drew to a close they became obsolete as France and Britain signed the entente cordial, hence they became follies. The Weymouth fort would have been part of this plan. I remember going with my dad down into the tunnels in Fort Purbrook (on the hill above Portsmouth) when it was abandoned back in the early 1970s, you could just walk in!! These days most have been repurposed, or closed off, Fort Nelson is a museum and Fort Southwick is still operational. The layout is very similar to the one in Weymouth. Of the sea forts, there were four, they are now privately owned but at one time Spitsand Fort was a museum and held events. These forts were designed such that they could be reinforced with thicker armour plate. To do this there was a small circular passage around the perimeter, not unlike the one in your video, this passage was to enable the fixing bolts for the reinforcing armour to be tightened. Of course it never came to that. I have visited a number of times, the tunnel was unlit so you just felt your way along. If they had said it was a ghost passage I'm not sure I would have gone in🤔🤔😮😮😅😅😂😂😂😂 If you look for Portsdown Tunnels you will find a site dedicated to the hill forts. I digress, sorry!! Great video, well done. Have a great week!!
Hi David, thanks for that! I was looking into Portsmouth too, as there are a couple of angles to cover there, for me. I'll look into the forts too. I hope you're well, wishing you a great rest of the week!
@@SamWalksALot Thats interesting, I'm currently preparing something about the old airport there. Not a UA-cam video, maybe in the future perhaps. If you need any info on Portsmouth then let me know
hello again Sam and Amanda , don't forget to hit the like button its free to do , what another brilliant explore, such a nice place with an interesting history to it, i really enjoyed this , well done and thank you 😊
Another excellent video. Visited Nothe Fort back in 1998 (I think) during a weekend in Weymouth. Regret to say I do not remember the underground passage or the nuclear shelter. Do recall a nice model of the fort and a 40 mm Bofors gun though. Good to be reminded. As an aside, Newhaven Fort has a replica of a Royal Observer Corp fallout shelter (some Dutch tourists made reference to Windscale, bless 'em). Many thanks.
Excellent videography, Sam. I really enjoy the quality of your filming and editing. Your choice of shots are very naturalistic. You have a distinctive style.
Hi Sam (and Amanda). This place holds a special fascination for me. My great grandfather was a first world war soldier and in 1921 was a Sergeant Major at Nothe Fort Barracks. He worked there for 5 years and in 1931 moved into the Railway Dock Hotel (since demolished) where he stayed for 26 years until he died. Thank you for the video. I can dm you a couple of pages from his book if you like! 😀
Here!! About to watch…I’ve heard of it & have read great spooky stories set there or mentioning Weymouth/Nothe Fort… have it washed it yet, but I can already say yes LOL go back! Question…Have you ever done a live stream, or would you do one, while going on one of your walks in a place like this? I’d DEF be down for that 😊
🙏🙏😊😊 Going to binge watch over the comming days , WOW the time on the research , travel , editing , and what you put into this channel , amazing honestley , and your sexy accent and good looks 😘yep one talented lady
Often the sound of whistling is associated with the gents lol… as a chappie whenever I go for a wee wee in a busy gents…there is always some bugger standing next to you whistling 😙😂😂😂 … ❤
It was really close, wasn't it. You could hear the whistling getting closer and closer on video. We heard no whistling while we were there!! I'll go back 👍🏻😊

Thank you Paul, appreciate it 😊
