At 30:15 there is a faster way to make a perfect sphere out of a cube. Instead of making a new cube and then applying a subdivison surface and a cast modifier to a cube you can just add a new cube, subdivide it in edit mode then press ALT + Shift + S which is a shortcut for "To sphere" function, which will turn your cube or any other object into a perfect sphere.

To answer the question presented at 8:17, I believe parallax is the culprit. It causes distortion in things captured with a lens. This distortion makes scaling objects for model-making difficult--even in a 3D virtual environment.

I watched your video completely, few things come to my mind-
    1. For lighting, you can try Leomoon light studio addon which lets you control light easily especially for product animation.
    2. For modelling such organic and hard surface product, i think plasticity is a better choice because it gives you finer control over the surfaces.

The reason photo references don't always match top/side/back is because the6 were taken with a camera, so the image has an amount of perspective. To take a flat image of an object you need to be as far away as possible and use a zoom lens. But even then there's perspective. The best reference is cad blueprints if a client can supply them.

@@ArijanRace i think blender is good for personal projects only, at least for now. I tried making a commercial with a massive concert scene and also a beach scene and it was a massive fuck up, the scene was dead slow and i couldnt get the realism right it always looked off, now i know that it is not right to say that different render engines can get you better realism but the truth is that it is way harder to get the same results in cycles that you get much easier with arnold in maya. Also one thing to mention is that maya has way more features to deal with large scenes like references and defered loading that blender devs know nothing about
