I haven't seen a design that heats in a cradle and relies on the thermal capacitance to allow for work time, before, but that seems like it will do quite well. Have you tried using the small one for holiday decoration repair, yet? My glue gun may have kicked the bucket, and it's the time of year I most need it for repairs.

It is a great idea and really works well. not having to have the battery attached while working with it makes things a lot easier.
