Custom Tim Drake Robin McFarlane Figure

This video covers the production of a Tim Drake Robin figure not commercially produced. I wanted this character so made it and now I will be sharing the custom process. It starts with a left over Nightwing figure. Removing the red emblem was the first step. Once removed, lots of sanding and then priming the figure for true colors.
Using the primer made bright colors true and to provide shading, black paint went back in only on the contours, then covered with the primary color red. This provided the look of several tones of red used, but only one color was used over the black.
The belt was crafted from sculpty , fired and resculpted adding layers of detail. I baked it in the oven for 10min and let it cool in the oven 30min.
The cape took several attempts to get the correct pattern. The final pattern is a half moon shape. The black has a seam sewn in one side, providing a pocket to the wire. The yellow is cut to exact size to cover the inside seam. Its all glued down with double iron on fabric tape.
The head is a custom 3D printed resin head purchased on eBay . I painted it using 3 tones of flesh tones to get a correct look. The details on the portrait are hand painted using a set of magnifying glasses.

He would be Red Rodin technically right? Threw out rebirth - infinite frontier he is referred to as Red Robin and Damien is referred to as Robin.
That sounds right , but I didn’t grow up the second half of the story, I still see Tim Drake as Robin.. that just means I need more figures to complete the storyline .
@@Cornholio174 I haven’t been any story lines for a while now…. Just having fun with the characters I do remember….and viewing their new designs but I still gravitate back to the old school design ….

I since then now make them out of worbla or craft foam , at times out cardboard wrapped in cloth with a wire… these are much better and more flexible

What is the flesh tone you used for the face, brand wise?
I used craft paint… aside from brand , it’s a series of washes in layers and finished with a fine brush for details to the skin tone.

Do these mcfarlane figures need a whole lot of joint prep when you do all over repaints like this? I have experience painting marvel legends and they need a TON of sanding if you want to pose them. I just thought it was weird that you never mentioned sanding joints or bending the joints during painting to get full coverage. This robin is honestly really great looking and I might have to give it a go myself since it seems todd has no interest in making Robin.
Yes, the problem is these joints have ratchets so sanding is many times not an option, so painting will suffer in those places. I just didn’t mention it since I was editing an extensive video. There are so many details not mentioned as it would be a longer video. It makes a good topic for another video. McFarland figures don’t give extremely good poses so many times it’s counter productive to sand them. This my first extensive effort.

No sewing on the cape? Only double-sided tape?
The tape is ironed on… now I use Fabri-tac glue …. Works lots better
How do you take apart the figure without breaking it
Heat and pull apart…. Depending on the figure…..hot water…sometimes hairdryer…
