Crackout PCGS vs NGC coin grading - Morgan silver dollars, 1889-CC

- PCGS and NGC are remarkably similar in this challenge. Wait till you see the 89-CC . And should cleaning be more specific ? Should they describe the type of cleaning or rate cleaning?
Thanks for watching.

Pcgs has categories for cleaned: whizzed, improperly cleaned, tooled surfaces, polished jewlery, and genuine altered surfaces
Hey, CoinGeek: What a great and informative video! I love watching these and learning as much as I can. Thank you so much for posting these. Cheers!
Cleaned or not...I love those Morgans!
hi
White Morgan's are so addicting Speg!! I may need an intervention!!🤪👊
Why would anyone be surprised that a coin over a hundred years old hasn't been cleaned at some point? I'm 65 years old and recall watching my Grandfather cleaning his Morgan's and Peace dollars in a 5 gallon galvanized tub...It was a common practice in the early sixties. It wasn't until the grading services came along and grew in stature that people started waking up to how this practice was undesirable. I totally agree there should be a scale for cleaned coins as many of those that I inherited have toned quite nicely ...Thanks for the video !
That's a great observation. With entire era's of collectors cleaning coins it's a wonder any survived untouched! Thanks for watching.
I agree. If anything they should agree to create a scale for coins like this. Perhaps as an AU type scale that doesn't hinder the coins values as much as GENUINE CLEANED. the standards have changed, yes, but that doesn't detract from the beauty and reality that is that coin. Perhaps a designation of antiqued is more appropriate... defined as follows, a coin which has been certified as AU, with no flaws other than historical numismatic culture changes. I know that's kind of confusing. But it makes sense to me. We used to clean, whiz and 2nd tone coins as a desirable thing back in the day. So why not s grade of AU ANTIQUED. WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN HARSHLY CLEANED OR DAMAGED!!! this would create as new scale for these coins and I believe some diamonds in the rough would come out.
@@MrJimmyWiles Not a bad idea.
Your correct. More cleaned coins than non cleaned coins. Also coins such as Morgan's & pre 1933 gold were cleansed to prevent communicable diseases. Not effective but, some people thought they were cleaning a coin for a good reason.
@@MrJimmyWiles Good alternatives. Maybe the grading services just don't want to make it more difficult on themselves by delineating thoroughly? Self interest on their part.
Interesting to see both TPG companies grade the same on all of those Morgans. I like the videos I'm seeing and subbed ya! Keep up the great content like this.
Thanks, I'll keep putting videos together. I appreciate the sub.
I love how you always swing for the fences. “Hope springs eternal in the human breast: Man never is, but always to be blest.”
Another interesting video! I once had an slabbed 89-CC graded F-12 and almost every person I showed it to said it had been cleaned, so I understand what you mean.
I definitely see cleaned coins in holders - and then my precious and beautiful Standing Liberty quarters get hit with the tag. All I can say is BOOO to the grading companies! Thanks for the comment.
@@TheCoinGeek Yes, I had a 1917 standing liberty that was blast white; a 55/58 all day long and it came back corroded !!
I can't believe you have a 1889 cc, I love it. Great job with this video. Thanks 😃😎
I think respectable collectors such as yourself, Dr G and others should grade coins (in your opinion) for the community. I think we would get a more honest grading than what PCGS gives. I've seen so many videos where you can cleary see collectors are ghosted on the grades. Just my thoughts 😊 great video and beautiful collection
Thanks so much for the kind words. I don't want to dump too much on the grading companies, they are human too :)
@@TheCoinGeek Agree that they give fair grading too. But I think it will make them up their game on grading if grade submitting went down juuuust a little ;)
Thank you for bringing up levels of grading for cleaned coins-I’m right there with ya. They will if we collectors push for it and if competition requires it! Thanks for all of your hard work and most excellent videos as well man-KAS
On the other hand, if there were a designation for different levels of cleaning they might be more likely to call a coin cleaned than they are now. Could be opening a Pandora's box
1838 Bust Half Dollar. 1st Attempt NGC AU Details Cleaned. Now to ANACS, AU 55 Details Cleaned Corroded. Back to NGC with some other nice coins. Comes back MS 61!
It's a tough call on the 1889 cc. It is cleaned but from EF to AU DETAILS is a big difference. The 1885 o I dont see any cleaning on the obverse but, I noticed spots in the upper fields from something?
Interesting stuff. I like the idea of a scale-of-cleaning too.
Thanks. There is a huge difference between a little wipe and a big polish!
Right, because wasn't there a time when ppl were told to clean their coins? Also, isn't there a professional way of cleaning/restoring coins?
Very cool cross grading! Thank you for sharing your results..
Thanks for watching!
TheCoinGeek Oh my goodness, I was just looking into coin grading videos and I came across this. I see you working at Old Pueblo all the time
Why would you crack out a NGC coin just to have PCGS grade them more money then sense
I'm probably wrong, but I'd guess they go harder on giving S and CC those coveted PL grades because mid- to high-60's in those mints will have numerous examples of fields that could flirt with a PL grade if they were seen on an O or P. I've only seen two CC's in person that aren't at least "Semi-PL" in their fields, so I either have a nice sample I've seen, or CC produces high quality coins that are hard to classify as one that the mint intended to be prooflike (I hope that made some sense).
I believe you can appeal ?
와우~~~영상 잘 보고 갑니다.
즐거운 하루 되세요..^^~
Hey TheCoinGeek: I've had your grading videos playlist on auto-play for a while, so I wanted to stop and comment on one. I like the idea of grading the details! Unfortunately, it looks like the Grey Sheet has gone in a different direction. What's up with the price differences between CAC and non-CAC? Wow!
Cleaned scratched tooled.
At some point if they haven't already they'll use a shared database and AI to track the coins irregardless of a holder to maintain consistency
Yep.
Harshly cleaned is the grade for a particularly bad job. There is also improperly cleaned as well.
1885-S DEFINITELY cleaned. 1889-CC definitely XF. NGC was correct on those.
Do you grade coins?
@@numismaticstacker no he does not...even if he did...he cant judge from a video
Oh
awesome morgans im collecting myself i hope my collection turns out as well
Nice coins but I understand your in it for making money but wow on web site you are high on you price on resale. Tag and bag
Did you send your regrade coins to PCGS still in the NGC cases? Or did you first take them out and send them into PCGS in mylar flips?
I’m anxious to see what PCGS grades my 1811 Capped Bust half that ANACS gave a 58; I’m looking for a 60.
Can you do a video on what a cleaned Morgan is worth compared to a non cleaned Morgan coin? I have an 1883CC Uncirculated but cleaned per PCGS and I'm trying to figure out a value for it.
I’m kinda new to this. I have an 1883 O but there is an S before the $1. What does the S mean?
It reads like this: 1883 O S$1
That "S" means ''silver''. And it can be confusing because I still accidentally look and think it is the San Francisco mint - NGC should really fix that.
TheCoinGeek , I’m still confused. Some have the ‘S’ and some don’t. 🤔
@@silverhoarder9308 Are the coins NGC or PCGS graded? PCGS does not do this. And newer NGC holders don'g have it, but older ones do.
TheCoinGeek , they are all NGC. That makes sense now. Thanks.
Do a video on the TRUE cost of grading these coins, with shipping and handling and insurance and fees and taxes and all the rest of it. How much does it REALLY cost??
TheCoinGeek i am sure you already know this but NGC and PCGS both grade a lot harder on semi and key date Morgans . I know from experience they seem to always low ball semi key dates and key dates at least by 1 grade point . Which can make a price difference of hundreds to even several thousand dollars . Personally i dont think its fair but i dont know of anything that can be done about it .
Nice video! Keep it up! Subbed! US!
Thanks! I appreciate the sub.
I have a few coins I need to crack out of case's to re- summit. What's the safest way to brake the case without damaging the coin's ?
It's a coincidence that you mention that. I was contemplating making a video on that. I'd be curious to see how else people do it.
ua-cam.com/video/GNrRI755cQU/v-deo.html
You seem like a nice guy you're really burning some money there brother
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought PCGS at least has the harshly cleaned notation ? Call that the 5
Questionable color yes while is same as possibly artificial toning can also be construed as cleaning .. cleaning is essentially altered (and they do have altered surfaces .. from say whizzing ). But isn’t rubbing or even dipping a coin altered surfaces ? They don’t grade them, MS63/dipped ... so you win some and you lose some ?
Now maybe they could enter a light cleaning vs heavy (or use the aforementioned Harsh) cleaning, but honestly - how can they say what’s light or not - that’s the epitome of subjective
Once again folks - buy the freaking coin not the holder ... and stop whining - it’s a bad look 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Here’s some eye candy - click the link and then click the first coin image and you can swipe through all the images. These are what choice AU/MA barbers should look like .. here’s a game for you
See if you can Differentiate the coins graded AU58 from those graded 62, 63
Most people cant , and the AU58 in many cases have the choicest look imo anyway

I'm wondering how when coin grading companies certify a coin which establishes their worth, that certification suddenly means something very different as far as pricing goes, with a cac sticker on it. Can anyone justify the insane mark ups because a 4th party grading company says the 3rd party graders got it right??? I'm thinking well yeah they got it right. Why wouldn't they? But then we get into shady things like collusion between grading companies etc.
I'm sure some of these graders also give a lower grade because they don't want to be the guy that adds a coin to a low population of higher grades.
They 1000% know the grades and values of coins. They are coin graders and because so they grade coins all day.., its their job
Pcgs is the best.
yep i dont BUY NGC
In my opinion ngc has a higher resale value. Or at least that’s what I’ve come to learn from the lcs around me.
@@KirksCORNER-1983 too bad.
the best right after ANACS, NGC, and ICG
I only buy ngc
Interesting the 89 cc is decent i personally would have labeled it xf 45 and called it a day.... there is so many ms61 coins out there with hairlines that if graded the same way the 89 cc they all be detail coins
interesting
Thanks for watching.
4:35 ngc grade its very accurate that 1885s its cleaned coin you can see the spot on top of eagle head.
4:33 at first I thought that said obviously cleaned.
You really don't understand the SF mint do you?
All the grades looked good to me i can't for the life of me see what your seeing. I guess because you own or have consigned them you have a want for them to grade higher. Lol I'd want the same
how do you go about getting coins graded?
I would go through an authorized dealer for PCGS or NGC. Some people prefer to sign up directly with those companies and ''join the club''. But it's important to get the guidance of a professional before you spend the money getting coins certified. You can follow the links and put in your zip code to find the ones closest to you.

I have understood that if you submit a graded coin in for regradiing it's supposed to get the same grade or better than what it's graded at. Is this correct information?
If you submit a coin for a ''cross-over'' then the grading company will only certify it if it grades the same grade OR a higher grade.
Sometimes its the excessive bag marks
What are they smoking at PCGS? The '89 CC Morgan at AU cleaned -- pulease! How are they so sure it was cleaned at all? I mean, can they say that for sure? I seriously doubt it. The obverse fields look clear but the hair details over the ears are gone and on the reverse, DUDE, c'mon! The breast feather are gone! AU ...really! Remember what "Fine" used to mean? This coin is light years away from AU and I wouldn't even know how to rate it. I'd give the obverse a VF-EF, and the reverse gets a VG-F. AU should means you need a magnifier to tell it is not UNC.
But, we're not all experts like you. So we send the coins into the experts.
It doesn't make much sense to take NGC graded coins and switch to PCGS. To me PCGS has questionable grading. Also NGC has a more attractive and stronger holder. I will never use PCGS for myself!
Feel the same way about NGC. To me they are incredibly inconsistent and any quality NGC coin I'll cross to PCGS. To each their own.
Hello Sir
I have Morgan Dollar 1889 S what is worth
Please tell me how much today value . Thanks
1889 S Morgan value depends on the condition. It is most likely worth $20 to $150 on average.
👀👍👍👍
That 1866 is not a proof like coin
1898S is not a proof like coin
: / so much time, effort and money spent to have even more money denied through conspiracy grading .. 👎
I have 1993 .2ruppes coin .WORLD FOOD DAY DIVERSITY BIO

I have1993 world food day diversity bio
Sir aapke nombrs do

They lie..
The better the coin?! They grade it less..inhave a ton of common grades. 65 66 67. That shouldn't be.
I have 1893 graded in Ms 63.
It's a 65 all day long.
You won't find a marlntic or anything luster light rose rim toning! I have 50 Morgan's graded ots easy to see how they grade it..
Liars
Thanks for your email
That morgan dollar did not look "cleaned" to me either
*Greed....SMFH*
the more i see of your videos, the more it makes me want to never submit things to these grading companies.. the money you spend on getting them graded rarely is worth it to me. it's the coin that has the value, not the slab.
