    AH,, I've used Houdini on and off since 2009... I am an old Softimage / Maya user from the 90s. I had no idea about the C Key Marking/Pie menus... that makes so many things in Houdini more elegant. I use Marking menus in Maya constantly and so this makes using Houdini far less clicky. Thank you for this tip that even helped a 26 year CGI vet.

      Thanks Rafael! Yeah once you get a understanding of how Houdini works it's very hard to go back to other packages haha. And trust me, it's only going to get more mind-blowing as the course progresses 😄

    Thank you very much for your delightful course ! Please don’t stop !
    I would like to mention few issues you probably already toke into account. Please keep in mind - I’m already your fan. But everything could be better somehow, right ?
    1) Stick to the script. Don’t try to speak/record/do at once. It’s impossible. It’s acceptable for streams but unacceptable for offline tutorials. Especially sponsored/paid.
    2) Record clean voice-over _after_ you edited the video. Clean video, record voice-over. No repeats, no useless mouse swipes/circles. No several corrections/redos/fixed along.
    3) Music in “number” is TOO aggressive. In playlist we have it TWICE in a row : at the end _and_ immediately at the beginning of next video. And its volume level is much higher than following video. It hurts :) Remove back-bumber. Leave just “starter” and use less aggressive music :)
    4) it’s a good idea to use some kind of background music too. Very subtle. But it adds rhythm to the whole video and make is much fluent for perception/sobriety to work-through. Just fundamental things :)
    Thank you once again for your amazing videos. I definitely will take a look on your patreon cave :))) Please please please don’t stop !!!
    P.S. I agree with your strategy to use procedurals instead of simulations when possible.

      Thanks ^^ glad you're liking the course. I appreciate the feedback.
      I agree on your 3rd point of music too loud, which I've adressed in later courses and tutorials. All the other points I am not planning of doing. I've bought professional recording equipment after I made this course (as can be seen in my more recent tutorials on the channel) so the audio quality is good enough now to not need to do any fixes like adding some music.
      About the script: I don't do scripts, and I'm not planning to. I prepare my courses beforehand to have a guide to what I'm recording for each episode but then I just record through it. I think tutorials that have vocals recorded afterwards always sound stale and lack personality. From most people I hear that they prefer my more looose presentation style where I leave in the small mistakes. So recording audio after the fact is something I will never do, it would bore me to death and I think it would make the quality worse, not better. Not my style personally (everybody is different eh ^^)
      I appreciate your comments though, but some those are just not my personal style. But thanks for taking the time to write them out and I'll defenitely consider some of it! watch some of my recent videos on the channel btw :) see if those are a bit better as it's addressed some of these issues there.

    When you started moving the sphere and the polybridge started moving with it, creating a perfect curve, that just blew my mind. I mean, I knew that that was going to happen but MAN WAS IT SATISFYING!

    When I press 1,2,3,4 it changes the camera to ortho views, not to vert/poly/edge selection, any ideas why?

      Maybe you're pressing the wrong number keys? There's the side number keys and the top number keys.

    I like your beginner course so much, but it will be better if It's going to be slower when you are moving the mouse pointer, and it will also be better if you delete all the nodes which you may not use them anymore when you begin to make a new example.

    • @TimvanHelsdingen
      @TimvanHelsdingen  4 роки тому

      Hey Andrew! Thanks for the feedback.
      I'm keeping all the old nodes so people can still download them inside the example files.

    If your Polybridge did not curve itself like it is supposed to (around timestamp 19 min), here's the fix :
    click on the polybridge in the netzork pane
    then on the top, in the Spine Shape dropdown menu click Curved
    That's it!

    I'm re-doing the entire course but this does not work in H18.5. When I change the loop of blasted polygons as you did and after viewing the entire geo with polybridge node, everything is messed up and Houdini don't know how to manage the bridge function properly... connection is broken totally.

    • @TimvanHelsdingen
      @TimvanHelsdingen  3 роки тому

      There hasn't been any major changes to polybridge in h18.5 and all of this should work fine in the latest version. Check your selections or maybe try setting spline shape to something other than curved

    • @baldoski
      @baldoski 3 роки тому

      @@TimvanHelsdingen I found a semi-solution. I have to change reverse direction in the input geo settings in bridge node everytime I change something in poly count, that's weird. Thanks for the help.

    • @TimvanHelsdingen
      @TimvanHelsdingen  3 роки тому

      @@baldoski well yes, what you're doing here with selections is not procedural. If the point count changes the bridge will change. Keep in mind this is only episode 5 of the series and I'm just getting you familiar with some of the tools, we'll get into all of the 'how to keep it procedural' in the later episodes.
