Nope..we all are not seeing McMatt McC.
This is to me stand alone supernatural, mythology not like True Dectective season which 1 was human creepy
      (But who is/was Rustin Cohle?)
A season of spirits and whispers in the dark ... aka ghosts, more Inuit than Lovecraftian.
My bets with this you tube author, it's brave and tough Evalagine Navarro who tries to save(d) her loved ones Combining that theme aka mine pollution.
Doesn't come close to Season 1 where the primary criminals were perverted homosapiens.
The spirals here are conisidence to the Inuit myths.

But also that cameron kinda went crazy in it too.. a bunch more but I was pretty curious about the movie and song. O. Is Danvers pregnant? Looking for a man on tinder if that was legit. Great review. I am wondering if Danvers is catfishing Hank, pretending to be the Russian fiance. She referred several times to fantasy football on her phone, but we never see it. Assuming that everything in True Detective is for a purpose, I'm wondering if Danvers is getting back at Hank. Hank used to be police chief, so he must have been demoted to a regular cop, which explains why he tries to undermine everything Liz does.

My guess is that there is some sort of organism that is causing neurological symptoms. Tsalal was working on extracting an organism to study to prolong life. The mining could have released that organism into the water supply.
It won't be exactly rabies but could be rabies like. Rabies affects neurons, especially the brain so this rabies like disease could cause hallucinations. Rabies causes aggression thus the self inflicted wounds. Rabies can cause lesions in the eye. Perhaps the ear bleeding is from pressure in the brain.
There has been a lot of scientific talk about ancient germs being released as the tundra thaws. New organisms have been found this way.
That's my bet. It would fit a theme of environmental damage causing climate change or specifically like the mine leading to unearthing a new organism.
Then there's a whole cover-up that includes killing people because the Tsalal funders were looking for eternal life, but instead it kills people and drives them mad:
Plus Clark is paleomicrobiologist. Paleo--ancient. Studies ancient micro organisms.
Heiss mapped the ice caves so he could have been the first infected. We know there are ancient fossils down in the caves.
Toxoplasmosis is an infection when in the brain can cause headache, confusion, poor coordination, seizures, lung pchorioretinitis caused by severe inflammation of the retina (ocular toxoplasmosis). It has been linked to schizophrenia as well.
Another clue toward a brain/neurological infection.
Finally, people have different genetic susceptibility to diseases, thus some people might be more likely to get it. It's estimated that around half of people have the organism that causes toxoplasmosis but only a few get to the point of serious infection and brain disease.

yes. I think Clark is the only important one at the station. He has his own room and the others have to put up with his odd behavior. The teacher said the ice core samples were never going to work for retrieving the microorganism, Clark has been studying a deposit of it in the ice caves, discovered 30 years ago. Clark is insane, either from exposure or he snapped when he was forced to kill Annie. Annie's romance with Clark was a sham, she found out the mine funded the station, insisted the hairdresser take her there, wanted it kept secret, She finally finds what she's looking for- but what does she actually see in the ice caves? And why not film that?
The microorganism fits a lot, but burnt corneas? Possibly self-inflicted? And what about the power outages?

He does research, but seems to be bothered when Navarro finds out what he cannot find, or did not want to be found (again the possibility to manipulate info).... I believe the fallout is because Navarro kills the man on the last and Liz has to cover it up as a suicide which is why she’s being interviewed in the trailer and would explain the fallout. It would have to be something major for liz not to want to work with her since she herself is hated.

After listening to Issa Lopez talk in the episode 4 podcast, I don't feel like Navarro having a split personality is the angle they're going for.
Lopez is always hinting towards Navarro and Danvers needing each other to solve the cases. Obviously, Navarro is the believer and Danvers is the sceptic.
I think it would quite insulting and disrespectful to Native American culture to just have the show turn around and basically say "oh yeah, she has a split personality and she's the killer, and therefore crazy"
It'll turn out to be a lot nuanced than that tired trope.
Personally I think Qavvik, Sedna and the Ennis residents being involved in cult/coven activities would be far more compelling but maybe that's just my wishful thinking.
In the podcast, there's a huge emphasis on telling tales of Inuit Folklore and delving deep into the spirituality. Here's hoping that stick the landing.

Do we think that she just killed Annie? Do we think that she somehow manipulated up to 8 persons brains to commit self harm and either kill themselves or completely incapacitate themselves?
If Navarro is the killer, then she has mythical, super villain powers. Did she kill the caribou too? Because they did the same thing
As her sister and the scientists. 8 Scientists aren’t going to willingly walk out in to the ocean naked, because a corrupt female state trooper is holding a gun to them. Is Navarro the source of the light in the tunnels?
If this is some bat shit Fight Club meets Haunting in Hill house, that’s just completely insulting to the audience. The writer would have just completely taken advantage of an already existing fan base in True Detective which is based on fiction “true crime”, and inserted her weird horror/ sci-fi bullshit.
She has attempted to raise women to a higher standard in this show, and failed miserably because they all look weak as hell.

    This is so easily debunked.
    1. People make one post burner accounts for fandom subreddits all of the time when they’re typically just a lurker but come up with a theory they want to share really badly with others.
    2. Novarro isn’t the only person that sees the dead and hears whispers. They make a point to tell us how common it is for others in Ennis to have these experiences during the long night.
    3. The wheeler scenes are different because the first one was shown while Danvers was lying about the situation to Prior and the second one was shone while she was telling the truth about it to Novarro.
    4. The finger thing I’m very sure was to show that in Ennis the only real jobs available are dangerous ones. Her fingers were cut off by a machine while working.
    5. Why would Sedna be Novarro when her sister seems to be way more connected to her myth? She’s the one that goes to the sea when she’s emotional and is being called to it. And she literally dies by drowning in the sea, just like Sedna. On top of that the rest of the points making this connection apply to Julia too- being directly effected by abuse, she’s also close with Qavvik since he looks out for her when Novarro can’t, she sees and hears the dead even more strongly than Evangeline, etc. If anyone is Sedna it’s Julia.
    6. It makes no sense to me for Foster to have been talking about Novarro’s character arc in a way that seems positive and have her be referring to her being the killer.
Overall, I think that all of the supernatural elements are pointing to Novarro being the one to save the day, not being the one that’s causing the day to need to be saved in the first place. That would be garbage writing that doesn’t fit True Detective’s MO at all. It would be straying even further from the series MO than adding supernatural elements to it. Every season has been about the detectives being able to save others from evil despite their very obvious flaws, that they are good even though they do morally grey or even bad shit sometimes. They are never the cause of the evil, it would go against the point of the entire series to decide to change that and make them be the cause of it, and Issa Lopez knows better than to disgrace the show by doing that.

I also feel like there’s more to Tagaqs disappearance or maybe I am thinking to much in to it, but I found it odd that a man would flee into the frozen tundra whose been hiding out with a nomadic group without his weapon. Yeah, thinking Navarro is the killer reminds me of Season 1 when the detectives in 2012 accuse Rust for the murders - which is completely wrong. Plus the whole thing of this TV show is to show how a detective can dedicated their whole life to a case, I don't think this is how it is going to go. The killer is faster than the detectives, making all of these people disappear right before they find them (Annie, Tagaq, the scientists, Clarke...)

Sorry man, sounds daft to me. Before the scientists went missing, Navarro had no interest in them at all. No reason to tie Annie’s death to them. Would have killed the miners if anyone. Totally leaves out the microorganisms Tsalal was studying.
I still think Annie killed them, resurrected by the microorganism after dying in some way I don’t know how to explain yet. I guess she found something spooky in the ice caves, something connected to the spiral mythology. I’m more convinced of it now that Navarro’s sister is dead, and how she mentioned she was going to be receiving her body. After they find Clark and learn about the microorganism resurrection stuff, maybe Navarro starts thinking about bringing back her sister.

Im really lost on how people can say the show is bad, and has too much filler.
If anything the show is jammed packed with stellar character development, and layers to them. Alot of the "filler" is necessary to connect the relationships within the community they live in and understanding the trauma, grief, and history so we can see how it impacts there decisions that lead up to the bigger question of why this is all happening.
True detective has always been a slow burner, and i think viewers want a faster paced show and that is never been the style with each season. They are all dark, well acted, and complex characters with rich storylines (even the "worst" seasons.

In the first episode, after Navarro goes to see her sister after her first mental health episode, besides the clear goddess pictures and one of the ocean at night on her wall, the 'bridge' between this scene and the next has a woman speaking what is very probably a native language and CLEARLY says the word Sedna [sssssssedna]. Interesting theory and breakdown. There is another reference to wolves that appeared in the first episode, almost unnoticed. When the detectives are searching the abandoned lab, there is a shelf of books, mostly concealed behind a radio so their titles cannot be clearly seen - two books on the right side of the shelf, however, are clearly visible, which makes their placement probably intentional. Both are by the late science fiction author Gene Wolfe: "The Fifth Head of Cerberus" (the title referencing the 3-headed dog guarding the gates of Hades, and in which questions of identity are ambiguous throughout) and The Urth Cycle, an omnibus edition of Wolfe's books set at in the very far future where the sun has grown smaller and dimmer and the stars are visible in the daylight sky. Wolfe is well-known for the use of unreliable narrators, complex plots which often require multiple readings to fully grasp what is going on, and an extensive reference and use of characters from mythology, who sometimes intrude into the "real" world...all of which seem to be going on in the series...

If you look at Eddie and Peter’s boots, it doesn’t look like they’re wearing cleats so must as chains that run under the shoes. Cheaper and less effective than actual spikes, but they serve the same purpose (and are pretty effective still).
That said that seems to be a stretch. If she was kicked and left with a bunch of tiny stab wounds how would they have not figured that out? Also a kick would be very unlikely to cause stab wounds as the spikes on the cleats face straight down. You’d need to stomp someone to cause stab wounds. Also the spikes on the hunter’s cleats look triangular instead of star shaped.

In episode 1: Why does Rose tell Navarro she's fucked when they find the scientists in the ice? And why is Navarro lurking around the research center in the first place when Danvers first shows up?

i kinda hate how the episodes don’t have names. I always liked the names of the episodes in previous seasons.

nah. it would be such a letdown to make someone with mental illness a dangerous killer. there has to be some supernatural element to the ending or the writing is lazy.

I think maybe Hank Prior is Anne K's killer or he's protecting the killer (the mine guys?), and that's why he told his son in a past episode that "blood is blood", therefore, that family is more important than anything else when his son Peter stole the Anne K files that Hank had in his house for Danvers. In the end, his son will have to choose between his father (Anne K's killer) and Danvers (ie, his police work and punishing criminals). Also they aren't going to get such a great actor like John Hawkes for such a minor role, right?. No way.
Saying that, I think maybe the Scientists' deaths have nothing to do with Anne K's death, like they are two separate things. Perhaps some organism they were testing on awakened and they knew it was incredibly contagious so that's why they ran out like crazy into the snow, and afterwards, hypothermia started kicking in so they took off their clothes. (mind you, why did they fold it though, or did someone else do it so their deaths would be investigated further as a murder case)? In any case maybe Clarke planted Anne K's tongue there before he ran away, so that Anne K's case could be re-investigated. Or maybe it was Rose Aguineau. Maybe her dead husband Travis Cohle lead her to the tongue and she kept it. Another possibility is one of the native cleaners. Maybe one of them had their 'spirit animal' lead them to find Anne K's tongue, long after her murder, so they kept it for safeguarding.
