The artist who did the Battle Cry cover also drew the Haunting the Chapel cover by Slayer.
Man this is why I love tuning in .., I never paid attention to this band and now revisited because of this show , so glad I did !!
Fantastic guys, I really enjoyed this video not many channels cover this style of metal. I'd love for you to do some more bands like this. Vicious Rumors would be cool? Cheers guys
Hell yeah! USPM legends, this one is way overdue. Thanks Pete! 🐺🐍⚔
I just ordered that book - thanks for the tip on that, John! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
A very underrated band. I listened to those first few albums like crazy in my youth. Finally saw them live on the "Reopening The Gates" tour and met Kenny Powell. Cool guy.🎸
J.D Kimball's deep, smokey voice was very unique for metal.
Omen certainly had some speed/thrash elements to their sound. Quite a few of the '80s U.S. power and trad metal acts did.
Great to see Rich as always! Rich did you ever get the chance to check out Lovebites and/or Frozen Crown?
On the list. Thanks.
Great program, gents! Pete, where did you get that C.F. tee shirt? Love it! One of my favorite bands. Please share?
No idea, I've had it for ages.
1. Warning of Danger
2. Battle Cry
3. The Curse
all i got...
Hey guys, just FYI, Vince Gutierrez was the artist for Omen Battle Cry. He actually had quite a few back in the day. Slayer Haunting The Chapel and Thrust albums as well. Metal Massacre and others were among his portfolio.
The Curse is the only one I ever had back in the 80s, and I remember liking that one but never found any of the others where I am. This is a band I hadn't thought about in a long time, so I'll have to listen to some of the rest of the catalog now!
Thanks for a very cool video! Omen were cool grounded guys back in the days when the new bands in LA were so competitive and arrogant. I was in another Metal Blade band in the mid 80's and we played a show with Omen at the Troubadour in LA. Good memories of a good band and some really nice dudes!
I’ll have to check this out Omen within all the rest of the stuff I have to check out.
It's so great to see Omen on SoT. My Ranking would be
1 Warning of Danger
2 Battle Cry
3 The Curse
However it's like dividing hairlines on these 3, don't care to much of the Rest. To me Omen together with Manilla Road, Virgin Steele and Manowar marks the big 4 of Epic Metal even 3 out of these 4 aren't big at all. Keep on the great work. Thanks, Chris
For opening day trio. Your combination crushed it. I know the first two Omen. 84/85 very well. Need to check out third. Definitely, ready for album rankings normally, four fusion threw me behind. lol. Thx. John. Rich. C. &. Pete 👍💯
went and picked up the Sinister Realm debut. good reviews on metal archives. second one got pretty good ratings too.
Thanks!
Deaf Dealer had the "burning guy" on the album cover. There was an ad (Metal Blade?) in one of my metal mags that included it, and I may have even seen it in Sam Goody or at the flea market "record guy" or somewhere. Definitely heard them a time or two on the weekend college radio metal shows.
Omen is really great underground US Metal band, that i first heard last year, when i watched one of the Darcy Six String nine Lives videos, where he speaks American metal/power metal bands and after that i went and i bought Omens first 3 Cd's and, as you guys said you cannot go wrong by picking of any of their early studio albums. My ranking is
1. Curse
2. Warning Of Danger
3. Battle Cry
Hopefully Lizzy Borden and Liege Lord gets their own album ranking show too.
J.D. definitely possessed one of the great voices of American power/epic metal and his vocal style fit Omen to absolute perfection.
Kevin Goocher, the singer from Eternal Black Dawn went on to front a band called Phantom X. They play that classic epic power metal sound along the lines of Omen and are definitely worth checking out.
Omen (another band introduced to me by Metal Blade samplers):
#7 Reopening the Gates (i’ve never heard this album, nor anything good about it)
#6 Eternal Black Dawn (meh)
#5 Hammer Damage (big improvement over the above)
#4 Escape to Nowhere (I didn’t like this album when it came out but now it’s up with the first three, different though)
#3 Battle Cry (first three albums are a toss up)
#2 The Curse (‘Teeth of the Hydra’ might be my favorite song by them)
#1 Warning of Danger
The title track on "Escape To Nowhere" is VERY Savatage sounding.
Mausoleum was a Flemish label based in Antwerp (so Belgium).
Great ranking of a awesome band. I was 18 yrs old in 1980 remember going to Listening Booth in my local mall. I knew the people who worked there so I got to look thru the boxes of imports before going in the racks. Needless to say I got a deep Discount, So much cool new metal great times. You guys should check out the band Griffin - Flight of the Griffin on Shrapnel Records it's hard to find the vinyl in the wild,But you can get it on cd from Golden Core Records. Killer U.S.P.M. from 1984 Galloping riffs epic lyrics.
Wow, I remember Deaf Dealer. I seem to recall they were Canadian. 🍁🎸🎤🥁
Termination is so much better than their other songs, but I like plenty on the early LPs/EPs , and Radar Love.
Interesting band that I never heard of,liked what I've heard so far.like Underground stuff
Mausoleum is a Belgian label. Cool ranking. Thanx!
The JD Kimball's era belongs in the US's pantheon...without a single doubt
Some of the tracks from Battle Cry were originally Savage Grace songs.
Apparently Kansas City is having an OMEN in the Super Bowl.
Always loved Omen!!
I have 3 of there albums. Battle cry can't remember other 2
1. Warning of Danger
2. Escape To Nowhere
3. the Curse
4. Battle Cry
Never heard their comeback efforts. I don't listen to reunion bands that disappear for 20 years and do the 'we're back '. Cirith Ungol is the only band that actually sounded like they used to. Raven never stopped , and sound the same. Too,many reunions of old bands, many without any original members.
I bought the gatefold vinyl of Battle Cry and I have Warning of Danger on cassette but by 86 I was so into Thrash that I never got the Curse, I found the 4th album used and I hated it and never bought anything else by them but after watching this episode, I feel the need to buy a copy of The Curse.
Me and Tony Dio did a listening party on Grant's Rock Warehouse of 80's Heavy Metal and I picked the song Deathrider off Battle Cry to play.
Yes, you NEED The Curse! Get the reissue with the EP included.
i had to pause this to go play “death rider” 🤘
My rank:
1 Battle Cry
2 The Curse
3 Warning of Danger
4 Hammer Damage
5 Escape to Nowhere
6 Eternal Black Dawn
7 Reopening the Gates
Wow, Battle Cry all the way. Amazing album. Bought it in St Martin's records in 1984. Next two are good, after that not so good...
1. Battle Cry
2. Warning of Danger
3. The Curse
4. Nightmares
5. Escape to Nowhere
Don't care about the rest.
Warning of Danger>The Curse>Battle Cry.
The rest don't exist. No Kimball, no Omen, as far as I'm concerned.
Hope you tackle the almighty Jag Panzer sometime soon. 🤘🤘
A good choice
Jag Panzer had that dime store pantera album too yikes it is terrible
