Is this mantra for strengthening weak mars? If so what if mars is in 8th? Does it become more harmful?
Chanting the name of Supreme can never be harmful and this specific form of the Lord helps to heal especially influence of Mars, regardless of its placement in natal chart.

Where might I find a straight forward word for word translation in English??
Most Mantra translations annoy me.
They tend to be overly verbose and non-sequential to the original.
I do not like rote-memorization of Mantras...
I prefer to integrate the ordered and conceptual meaning of the words.
English Translation: Let us meditate on He who is known as the possessor of nails as hard as thunderbolts and sharp teeth. Let us be enthused by Lord Nrsimhadeva!
