It's actually funny because he has a video about Monsters who have situational second effects and he talks about how Honest can put your opponent on a timer
I love how you guys are trying to beat the shit out of each other, all while giving tips, sharing strategies, and laughing at memories of the old meta. Wholesome as FUCK.
It's an old format so they surely know each others play and every card they question being in the hand is the one they search to make sure it's the card they saw and having to worry less about the cards in the hand
I have been loving a stupid custom tengu combo in master duel recently. You can do whatever you want around it, but if you end turn with tengu on board, on opponents turn use hop ear squadron to synchro into locusts forcing opponent to discard and special summoning second tengu, then immediately synch off into Baron. Not good really, but very fun
im suprised that they dont make the opponent go first and have them skip to replicate going first and getting the draw, obviously they will have accsess to the battle phase but they just need to honour ignore it so that it can be as accurate to the format as possible
It's just so silly to see how many hoops you need to go through to play a pseudo retro format. I don't believe you need a 5head MIT professor to setup customized duels with first turn draw and ignition priority.
@@ivanmaterazzo2631 They are literally checkbox options on Ygopro (though tbf to Konami it would take an assembling of all the world's scientists to decipher how to play a card game with both Nirvana High Paladin & ignition priority. At which point we would be doomed to climate change.)
@@ashikjaman1940 for content creation I may agree. But from a OG formats' player: A: No ignition priority translates into unbalancing the whole format. For example every monsters that doesn't trigger their effect on summon like Dad, Bls, Sorc, Gale, Breaker and Lyla become incredibly nerfed. On the other hand cards like bottomless, Pwwb, Raigeki break, offerings to the doomed which are already crazy in retro become insanely buffed. Consider that Bottomless is at 3 in goat and at 2 in Edison. -Card advantage is EVERYTHING, going first will be an incredible disadvantage unless you play a full trap deck or if you open full trinity in goat. Not really healthy huh?
@@ivanmaterazzo2631 I'm not gonna disagree with you, especially since I don't play older formats myself, but like, if they wanted to play actual older formats they could just load up EdoPro or something. This Master Duel adaptation is janky but it's more fresh and I like that.
I've had this idea that I call "New HAT." Basically, you take older format decks (HAT for example) and upgrade them with newer support. It would likely require an updated banlist, but the unlimited MD rooms could be perfect for this.
I think the quote was referring to a deck's inevitability being much harder to achieve and specific starters not being deterred by that. Post duelist alliance, every deck has inevitability, with some being able to achieve it on the second turn. It's not the same as the sacky draw, it's about not being gated out from turning things around by inevitability alone.
Not really. Like in modern yugioh almost every card in your main deck makes a combo. Not in every deck but in most good decks. So it is really a top deck if every card in your deck gives you access to an engine?
it's funny, I basically stopped playing around the time of 2011, but at that time, I had both a plant and counter fairy deck. While I was playing jank versions of each, I did run them. And at the time, I had a strong aversion to net decking, so I just stumbled onto these decks because they were just clearly the strongest options (despite the fact my versions were hardly optimized.)
This was fun to watch. I am obligated by no one but myself to point out MBT missed lethal game 1 Mind Con the Agent, make brio, pitch spore to bounce bls Then sync for Black Rose using debris and lonefire I imagine he was afraid of trag, but this play would have saved him dark hole and set up spore for later use
you can definitely do the old master rule by having the first move be a turn zero where the turn player just passes and the second turn be the actual first turn but without the battle phase
for eras where you draw on first turn, you should have the player that wants to go first actually go second, and have the first turn just pass, then the second turn just doesnt conduct the BP
God I wish Master Duel would do Time wizard events. It would be so fun to play these old formats again instead of "the Zeus/Numeron turbo event" or "watch your opponent make a 7 negate board over 15 min then scoop because they messed up the synchron combo event"
I get that tour guide is iconic, but honestly I think the best variant of Tengu plant format is pre-xyz when she was "just" a sangan tutor, or at least pre-generation force when we only had utopia, grenosaurus and gavhi gachi.
Wasn't replicated in this match, but Maxx C was actually really good against Tengu and even better in the mirror. So what if they stop at one summon? They've ended their turn. The one for one is worth it as long as you play it out right. You get big damage and eliminate their setup (i.e. Tour Guide, Venus).
That game 2 is the perfect example of how swingy and highrolly this format was. One game Doug is top decking BLS and Reborn the next he's duality for 2x shine balls and a dead kristya.
To really recreate this format you should have the person going 2nd start first, and they just end phase pass. Then the player going 1st treat it like turn 1, with no battle phase so each player gets the 6th card.
For this old formats if you want to have the extra card for turn player you can have the turn player be second and pass the turn to them with out doing anything in turn the the other player now can draw they do have the option to go to battle faze how ever they are not force to in that way you can replicate the way it used to be.
You always go first with combo decks in this format--enough traps are played that even down 1 card it's still worth it to have an open field to set up on
Yeah that’s the problem with old school Yu gi oh, especially of that era. You either get OTKed or just nothing happens for many turns. Which just feels bad
Do these guys not know that OTK stands for "One Turn Kill", slowly killing your opponent over 14 turns deal damage here and there is not killing them in one turn...
Doug was still dead but couldn't he of just flipped the leviathan dragon and wasted the xyz material so it couldn't attack directly the next turn it returns to mbt on the 2nd game or does the spell also prevent you from changing the battle position?
Well, Tengu plants without the xyz is kinda cool, I play it irl and u can get away with some nice lists Also it seems like your list, at least for agents isnt solved. And there was a draw missing for turn going first if I saw that correctly
if you want to simulate the first draw, because you guys are playing each other, you can decide this properly If MBT wants to go first, have Dzeef start and just pass this way Dzeef has 5 cards and passes to MBT and he gets the draw this would likely be problematic on a larger scale though
