Almost like it starts as a "Country" song, but then stops being a "Country" song, and ends up being a "Country" song that doesn't seem like a "Country" song... Gonna have to say it's maybe "Alt" "Country". just to cover my ass... Anyway, great fricking song!
It's not a "Country" song at all, but it also totally is. Someone will be playing something like this at the Gran Ole Opry in 15 or so years... Banksy.
I'm cool with alt country. I was a little unsure about this one because I thought it was too simple and perhaps corny. Thanks so much for listening, man. I really appreciate the kind words. You're a great singer/songwriter!
Thanks so much, my friend! I used to go out of my way to avoid sounding commercial. That's no longer such a distasteful concept to me. I really appreciate the kind words!
When I was younger and still living in Canada I used to do a lot of walking alone, often at night. Orion always seemed to be rising on the horizon. I think in the song it represents new life, new love, new opportunity. I struggled a lot. I appreciate the comment, man. Thank you!
Just my initial impressions after a first listen. Your guitar work has a kind of old-school relaxed precision. I'm not sure sometimes if my choice of words gets across what I'm trying to say, but that's the way I want to put it. I think you've been at the guitar for a very long time. My favorite thing you did with your guitar in this song is those swells in the pre-chorus sections. It's exactly what the song needed. Which brings me to my next point, which is that I feel that everything you do is in service to the song. Next, I love the fact that I don't need subtitles to clearly make out the words, and the lyrics alone made me feel like dancing. And I'm not much of a dancer either. The song is well-written overall. It has a universe behind it. Anymore, I look at another person I am meeting as an unexplored continent. This song is an inviting shoreline. I don't know if it had a bass part because I was so focused on guitar and lyrics. The synth toward the end was tasteful and nicely understated. Last thing I will say before I go back and listen again is that I would love to do a slide outro for it. I have a National Resolectric with a real hot P-90 that might compete with that synth, but the Highlander pup would sing nicely with it. Anyway, I really enjoyed this song.
@@StarsAlignSound I hesitate to offer such things, especially to someone I've just met, because I wouldn't want to cause any sort of awkwardness. You could just say thanks but no thanks and I'd understand totally. I could also try my hand at a slide part and you could even at that point say thanks but no thanks and again no hard feelings at all. I put the idea out there because I thought it would be interesting to at least hear what it sounds like. I might've even tried it without ever telling you, just to satisfy the curiosity. So I guess since you seem amenable to the suggestion, I'll give it a shot. If you like the overdub and want to use it, I can just scoot the dry take over to you on the cloud and you can work it into your mix however you like. As for the bass part, I gained a whole new respect for bass players once I started writing and recording my own bass lines. I think there's nothing wrong whatsoever with synth bass parts. Sometimes they are to be preferred, depending on the song. So thank you for your positive response, and I will get back to you on that slide part. Also looking forward to digging back into your catalog as I get time.

I love the intro lulling you one way, then the verse bamming you another way. Word!

Wonderful, mate. This one has a great commerciality about it. Great lyrics and catchy melody. Excellent, well done. ✌️🤗❤️

Melodic and uptempo tune which I enjoyed listening to, Mike. A nice, light air to it.
Thanks so much, Guy. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice lyrics, seems to be a lot of mention of Orion, what does that represent? Such a distinctive singing style.
