I was born in 88, can totally confirm...this music was playing as I exited the womb in the hospital. The doctors and nurses had rad sunglasses on and so my life began
I was 10 years old in 1980 and got to spend my entire teenage years in the 1980s, emerging as an adult as 1990 clicked over. I feel I was blessed by sheer dumb luck to have lived through culture and times so many wish they could have lived through. I discovered synthwave about 2 years and I've yet to find out what it is about this magic genre that instantly transports this daft old fart back 35 years to the nerdy kid he was hacking away on computers in his bedroom, no idea what lay ahead for him. It's incredible to me that so many young musicians have managed to capture the very essence of the optimism the 1980s held for those of us who were there, you're amazing guys and every track brings a tear to this old fart's eye! ha ha!
@DixieDaydreamer, right there with you my friend. Could have written this exact same comment. I recall many late nights on my green screen Apple ][e with a 14.4K baud Hayes modem (before later being BLESSED with a 28.8K baud modem!) telnetting around the world talking to people or discovering new BBS's. I was obsessed. We really were on the edge of a new frontier. The only thing that was missing was this music.
Starting i my 20's i went from Punk to NéoMetal, to Hardocre, to DeathMetal, to FolkMetal, to HardTech, to DrumAndBass, to Electro and now in my 40 to Synthwave and all related.... What a strange musical journey.... I almost can see the curve of 20 years of emotion....
As much as I loved my childhood in the early 2000s, music like this always makes me wish I could experience the magic it must have been growing up in the 80s... They always give me the same feeling I had when I first watched my mom's VHS collection of 80s music. Truly amazing.
80s kid, poor as...handmedown clothes from the local church. Still happy though, my family chipped in together and bought me a raleigh mini burner bmx. Spent every minute out on that thing!
So my father of 41 y/o sent me this, as we both love Synthwave. This gender is unique, and I am gald me and father can share it, having 15y/o. Thanks for making such an amazing copilation, my father and I are gonna play this on every night car ride! Also, I added all the songs to my playlist!
then you realized what they told you are lies. lies you still needed to hear to keep grinding through the factory-like school system. Then you started working and realized they push you into borrowing and your immaterial slave-master are the payment terms. you find rare solace in nostalgia remembering the times when you were still sleeping under the soft blankets of the illusions created by the system. you sometimes wonder: maybe it would've been better to never see, to consume like the rest, working as mindless drones for the benefit of the owners.

SO glad my algorithm recommended me this! I am sorry to say, but I only found out about this genre about a year ago...and its literally changed my life. Its honestly ALL I listen to now. Glad I found this mix and your Spotify playlist! I just added that and will be giving that a whirl. Thanks!!
Crazy how music can teleport you to a time you never even lived in. Synths, neon streets, that endless-night energy-been chasing that same magic over at VZION Lofi. It’s wild how sound alone can bring a whole world to life. 🚀
