Painted Bunting Migration

- Painted Buntings have been increasing in the Backyard this past week as birds from south Florida are migrating through here on their way north and our local birds probably have or are leaving soon - not to return until mid-October. So now is a good time to savor these most beautiful of all North American songbirds.

It's so funny because the bunting is just fine with his female sharing the dinner with them but he runs off the other males. This is a really cool bird
We never see these beauties up here so this was a real treat. The females are just as pretty as the males! Thank you for this. I really loved the slow motion footage of that gorgeous Crow too.

Ive had the honor of having a male bunting just like that at my backyard feeder for the past three nights and I know it's not going to last very long because of breeding season so I'm trying to enjoy every minute that hes there

I am so jealous of those birds they are so beautiful! I am in western new york state so we dont have them this far north... I lived in florida about 4 years and enjoyed the brautiful birds.. I had an egret who came to see me daily and would sit on the porch with me for hours... I named him erwin...lol.. . After steve erwin who had passed away at that time... The egret would follow me across the street to the beach or all around my yard... The birds are beautiful... Ive always felt a strange connection to birds... Lovely. Thank you.
Katherine Lee Erwin seems like a wonderful and amusing character haha. There is a lovely park across the street from my university and I used to make friends with the egrets and whistling ducks. Egrets are amazing to watch

Wow, how beautiful the colors. My cockatiel started singing and whistling ride away, but they sure got spooked when the crow came in later, thank you for setting these up. Have a wonderful Easter. I know my kitties are enjoying these.
It's amazing that such beautiful creatures exist in the wild! They look like someone's pet exotic bird! Would love to see one!
I was out on my boat off of Key Largo yesterday and observed lots of birds migrating over the ocean. Looked like a few types of warblers (one landed on the boat for a few minutes) and one hummingbird but I didn't get a good look at it. I was out the day before while a front was coming through and didn't see many birds besides the typical marine birds but yesterday after the front the songbirds were on the move!
How beautiful they are! So neat to watch. I’ve always wanted to see these guys but never get the chance. Thank you for sharing! Has any fellow Louisiana residents out there been lucky enough to see them?

Ah I wish we had Painted Buntings! I think they're spotted on Lake Apopka, but we haven't had a chance to go there in years. Thank you for sharing these beautiful birds!
That male Bunting was on the ball! He saw the crow and took off before every one else. By the time the birds flew off I still didn't know why until the crow was half way there! I had to back track the video to see where the crow came in from. The male Bunting saw the crow jump off the limb in the tree from that far away. Amazing. They are far more alert to everything than we are!
By the way, that is one healthy looking crow!

@TitcatFollies There is also a possibility that some of them were first year males. I do witness this type of behavior at my own feeders all the time though.
