Hey Chloe and Otto! I’m an Orthoptist (a strabismus and paediatric vision specialist) in England. There are Orthoptists in Australia too, they’ll look after you so well🥰 The glasses and patching will have been done during Otto’s visual development, which the critical period is until the age of seven. So after that, glasses and patching won’t change the vision, as Otto’s vision will have reached the base line now, and probably equalled out since you were discharged. Well done for that Otto! Patching doesn’t align the eyes better, it just purely helps vision to become equal in each eye, and is more commonly needed in people with strabismus (misaligned eyes) as one eye focusses more than the other. The strabismus wouldn’t have disappeared, or resolved, the vision difference in the two eyes most likely just became equal and he may have controlled his eye a little better. He most likely doesn’t need the prescription to be able to see properly, I gather this as he was told not to wear them anymore after visual development. It may be helpful to get a glasses test at the hospital to see if he has any hypermetropic (+) prescription to give, which could help him to control his eye a little bit better. Just looking at Otto, I don’t think they would do surgery, unless he lost control of his eye a little bit more and he got symptoms of double vision, headaches etc. But don’t worry Otto, surgery isn’t scary, it’s all done in a day. I’ve had strabismus surgery 3 times, and I was so intrigued I became an Orthoptist so I could help people like me. You are so brave and a wonderful boy, and I bet you will be fabulous whatever happens. You may even be given some eye exercises to help with the control of your eyes. Make sure to look into the far distance after every 20 minutes of close up work to help your eye muscles, as when we look at things up close our eyes naturally turn in. I hope you didn’t mind the long comment Chloe, I just thought I would give you a little more insight into Orthoptics whilst you’re waiting🧡 As you said, it’s nothing to worry about. The main thing is that Otto is happy and his vision is good. Sending lots of love!Xx
Ones eyes are SO precious, my right retina detached for no reason a few years ago, a surgeon saved my sight. Be guided by your surgeon, hope all goes well for you Otto. Mum dad and the surgeon will do what’s best for you. You have a lovely family 🥰
I have a lazy eye as well, my left eye wonders when I am tired, and when this happens, I see double vision. I am 71 and have had this condition since childhood. I was given eye strengthening exercises to do, surgery was never an option for me back then. As I have gotten older, I am able now to control this problem. Good luck to you Otto, I wish you well with your eyes..
Do you ever get overwhelmed/overstimulated? How do you handle those times? I have 3 kids and some days are so so so challenging to get through. You always seem so gracious & patient 🧡
I also struggle with this. I don't know about Chloe but I try to make sure I make time for myself... I don't have a husband that can stay home but I make sure I get an hour to myself daily if I can when my husband gets home. Also having a big yard helps and sending the kids outside when I can...or doing quiet time...it is really hard. I also have three kids :)
Remember you only see a tiny snippet of their lives. They also have two full time parents, no need to rush around due to home schooling and I remember Chloe stating that she only shows the good bits never the tantrums etc. Do not compare ever to social media. Ever.
I would love to know this too. I have 3 and would absolutely love 4 but gosh some days I get sooo overwhelmed & overstimulated with my 3 I don’t know if I could possible handle another little person to look after!
As much as I liked your fireplace, I think putting the little children’s books in that place is a better choice. Love watching you children grow up. Thank you.
So my 4 and 6 yr old saw that park and there was no convincing them that we would definitely not be going. I said we would have to cross like 3 different oceans. "It's okay," my 6 yr old, "We can just start going and in sex years we will get there." You do have an awesome park there and your family is adorable.
It makes sense that Otto's eye might start turning again as the eyes continue growing as we grow. My optometrist say generally growth stops around age 20. Awwww my daughter (she's 6) loves the Number Blocks as well.
Please do a q&a! I'd love to get a different perspective type of vibe video! You guys are such an inspiration & wonderful family! Sending well wishes! ❤🎉
Hi Otto, I had the same eye problem when I was a child and so did my son. We both had surgery, my son when he was 4 years old and I did when I was 7. It wasn’t bad at all, it didn’t hurt and our eyes are fine now.
I truly enjoy watching all your videos. It’s so wonderful to see you encouraging each child. The children pick up on this as you see the siblings encouraging each other. It warms my heart. Sylvia does really well drawing. I like how she repeats what you say to her. I looked up strabismus as I exactly sure what it is. It’s not lazy eye but it’s crossed or wandering eye. The condition has to do with the eye muscle. I enjoy looking up medical conditions as I have many autoimmune diseases and other medical conditions.
I think all of your kiddos have a special something. But that Silvio, I’m telling you she would never get in trouble. There is just something about the way she pronounces her words. I love listening to her and watching her facial expression when she talks. Just so cute. 💕 thank you for the video.
My daughter has had three surgeries for strabismus. The best thing we did was to be consistent with patching. As an adult she still has excellent vision in both eyes. I highly recommend some patching of his strong eye each day. If it is only for 3-4 hours a day it can only help.
I have Strabismus. I’ve had 3 corrective eye surgeries (6months, 3 years and 6 years). My type of strabismus is on the more severe end, but the eye surgeries did help straighten my eyes out. I also notice it mainly when I’m tired. Hopefully your new doctor can offer some alternative ways to help Otto’s eyes!!
The playgrounds they have an Australia are amazing , there are so many of them. It is great way to get kids to get out and play. I wish they had them where I live. I have never seen any like that.
My daughter had this as well and we went the route of vision therapy. That might be an option for you as well. It did include patching, push-ups, and other exercises using her eyes. I would recommend looking into this and finding out what your options are as it saved her from any type of surgery and she only had to do it for a year and a half before the eye was corrected. She is fine now and it only crossed when she’s really tired or has been reading a lot but at age 22 she’s okay with that and knows what to do to strengthen her eye muscles because that’s what’s wrong with Otto’s eye. The eye muscle is weak and he just needs to strengthen it.
Our grandson just had that operation after wearing glasses and patching also and Covid delaying the operation but with great success he had with it, his eye was quite turned . He just turned nine. Took along time in the public system but great drs. 👍
Love the Volcano park and thank you for giving the name of it for us Perth mums looking for new places :) also Coco and Sylvie sound like adorable little chipmunks when they sing, absolutely love hearing them.
I do remember the patches! Hope it resolves soon! Otto, surgery is scary but I’ve had 4 or 5 surgeries and it’s ok! Well I’m Chloe’s age but my first surgery I was 6! They treated me very well in hospital!
My dad had a “lazy eye” as a kid and I believe he had surgery to correct it for him but I can always tell when he’s tired now cause his eye still turns in! Makes me giggle, and he never notices! It’s such a teeny thing, i think as long as it’s not bothering or harming him he should be fine without surgery if he doesn’t want it ❤
Hope all will go well for Otto with his eye...I had an eye that turned inwards when I was four years old...Eye drops at the time and then yearly check ups with the eye specialist that continued until my twenties...And wearing glasses since aged four aswell...Regular check ups at the opticians now...Sixty six and awaiting cataract surgery soon...Best Wishes to you all...
I had strabismus surgery as a young child on both eyes with glasses and patching as well after surgery I wore glasses until about 10 and I will have to repeat it at some point but it has definitely helped with my overall vision and confidence. I’m 24 now and have yet to repeat the surgery yet. I remember the surgery vividly and it was not bad at all, I was about 4 when I got it! Don’t be scared Otto surgery is just a step to no more worries 💗
I had eye surgery as an adult to tighten the muscles one one eye. I had to be woken up during the procedure to make sure it was correct. I was freaking out about that but as it turned out it wasn’t bad at all. No pain what so ever. If you need it Otto, do it, modern medicine is a wonderful thing.
Otto has such an angelic sweet face. Looks like the surgery option is quite a simple procedure. 20 minutes and fixes the issue. Hope that’s all it is. Have a great week .
That little SYLVIE, with her drawing of the daddy long legs, so cute and smart, omg! Little Birdie and her cousin going down the slide so cute, hope OTTO”s eye problem gets resolved , he is the sweetest little person, and so are all the other children! thank you for your vlog!
If Otto's is only when tired chances are it won't cause problems. I had the surgery aged 3, followed by years of glasses and patching... my eye still turns in. Doesn't cause me any issues apart from motion sickness, from the mis-matched visual signals.
Just wanted to weigh in; I would have had a lazy eye as a child and it was never treated, I now have permanent double vision which is essentially untreatable as an adult so please get ottos eye treated ❤
I have a slight lazy eye too! It goes out of focus when I’m tired or been reading too much. I just look up from ready focus on the wall and then go back to reading. Was annoying in college but wasn’t worth getting surgery for! Hope they figure a way to fix his eye without surgery! Good luck!
I had the surgery about 40 years ago, when I was 7yo, and remember the patching afterwards (and yummy ice cream in hospital!). Unfortunately my parents didn't take me for any vision check ups in the years following, because the affected eye is sooo much weaker than the other one 😥 But you are great parents, and I'm sure you'll take him for annual check ups ❤️
I also have strabismus, im 22 and have had it since i was a baby, i have worn glasses from the age of 2 and the same as Otto my eye only turns in now when im tired or looking at screens. I have worn glasses full time since 2 but Ottos isnt as serious so i highly doubt surgery would be on the cards, dont worry!!
I used to have lazy eye when I was very young, wore patch on one eye and now I am 51, had another eye condition which I can't pronounce, cataracts, surgery on both eyes and cornea transplants, my eyes are excellent now. Take care of eye conditions 😊
I tried patching for “lazy eye” also. I had surgery at 2 yrs old then I had surgery again at 30 yrs old. Several muscles were involved making it pretty painful. It was overcorrected so I had to have another one involving less muscles so that wasn’t painful afterward. I was awake during the surgery
My daughter has that problem also because her eyes are wonky. One eye is farsighted and the other is nearsighted. I hope that your ophthalmologist check his eyes for this. It took a long time for my daughter to get an eye doctor to help her with this. She had eye therapies that helped her eye focus on seeing together. It was basically 3d glasses an a book
I've had strabismus since I was 4, I done a lot of exercices with an orthoptist, (like a physiotherapist for eyes), and it worked really well for years. Now I'm 27 and the re-education doesn't work anymore, so I'm wearing glasses with prisms to help my "lazy" eyes.
I had prisms for a bit. They were the worst. I had surgery after struggling with the prism glasses and had no issues since. Wish you well on your journey.
@@jenniferreinhard1108 the prisms are working pretty well for me now, I'll see how it's going to evolve in the next years 🙂 My ophthalmologist already explained the surgical procedure so I know what to expect if I want to do it!
Hi my daughter also had/has the same condition as Otto but as the specialist said the operation to correct it may affect her sight making her vision worse so I opted to leave it until she was older, so by about age 8 she asked if she could have it done because she was getting teased. Even today (she is now 39) when she is tired it still turns. My son had it done at 17 months but he also has a nystagmus. Each child is different and just sharing my experience......
I had a lazy eye too. I had some kind of surgery for it. I don’t remember much of the surgery. But it must of not worked. Because middle to high school I remember when I was tired it did wonder or get lazy. Once I got older it corrected itself. But I do remember those days.
I have strabismus and doctor noticed it at my 1-year-old medical check, then I wear patching and glasses until the age of seven, when I got a surgery and doctor let me be one whole week at bed watching TV, I remember watching SpongeBob and Lazy Town a lot, so it had equally its good and not as good parts. After that, I needed another surgery one year later but since then, my eyes are not lazy anymore and merely no one notice it!! So I suggest you family and specially Otto to be brave and you'll see properly! Yeah, it's different bc he's older than I was, but maybe it can be increased with the time, idk. Take care of it!!
I had strabismus! But it was both of my eyes that were turned. They operated when i was 4 but it was more a cosmetic thing and didn't fix the problem. I'm fine now (26) but don't have good depth perception and can't see 3d movies haha but otherwise it doesnt impact me
One of my best friends had the SAME eye condition, except one of her eyes looked OUTWARD. She didn’t have the surgery until she was an adult. Her eyes appeared total normal afterwards.
Can you find some old original episodes of sesame street for the twins to watch - they’d love the ‘count’ - one ah ah ah xxx lots of numbers and letters on there - and Spanish etc - think they’d love it! And can with it with their stuffies x
Hi my daughter has a lazy eye and there’s nothing wrong with her sight and would only be for cosmetic purpose to have surgery. We opted out of surgery as it’s just not necessary. X
Austalian kids even small just casually saying : oh there is a spider under the couch... Me an adult running and screaming like hell when I see one in 🇨🇦😂
I don’t know what I had but my eyes had some problems. I had my head tilted. They thought it was a neck problem, but it was my eyes causing problems. Something with the muscles. I was really young maybe a little older than the twins. When I was 3 I got my first surgery and second at 6 or so. I didn’t like that a second one was needed. Got checkups until I was 12. Last time wasn’t my regular doctor so idk if she would have made me return or if I was done? I can focus my eyes but feel like my problem eye sometimes still has a little moment? I see it in photographs. But it is very small? (Am 35 now to give you a timeframe idea). The cakes the twins made was so cute. The park looked like great fun too ✨
I had glasses also for strabismus and it didn’t get resolved. I had to have 2 surgeries at 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 before it was fixed. They operated on both eyes actually to get the eyes in alignment. My older sister had both eyes turn in and had 2 surgeries also. Two of my sister’s sons also had strabismus and 1 had surgery. Must be a genetic problem in our family.
Hopefully Otto won't need surgery. I have had a strabismus my whole life and it shows mostly when I'm tired. My eye doc says that my brain ignores the information from that eye most of the time - if I shut the other eye, the strabismus eye corrects itself temporarily. It doesn't afrect my vision otherwise. Just looks odd to people when they notice it.
I remember the older kids use to have their bellybuttons out. You were saying maybe when they grow up you might want to do something about them. I was just wondering has any of them said anything about their bellybuttons now that they have grown up. And do the twins have that same issue or not.
I had this too growing up but learned to compensate as I grew up. never had the surgery. But now as an adult I just wear 1 contact for distance and I read with the eye was lazy. only when I am really tired or have been drinking does it bother me.
A "lazy eye" would be corrected with prisme glasses to correct the "perception" of the vision. The cells in the eyes sends information to the brain, sending information to the muscles. There are a few specialist, opticians, that correct the vision with glasses. Often people with this problem are not very good at ballgames, as they see the moving object to late in order to catch it. Depth sight is also effected, making the person stumble more than average. This also is corrected with proper adjusted glasses. The condition runs often in a family and for greatest success should be treated before turning 5. It runs in my family and can also be connected to dyslexia as the eye muscles tend to pull the eyes in wrong direction, for the reader it makes the letters and music notes blury and difficult to identify. Hope you find a decent specialist!
I have a turn in my eye and I wear glasses and I was offered surgery for it and they said I’d still need to wear glasses so I didn’t bother having it done xxx
Do whatever you can! I knew a girl who had this and I am not kidding people would look behind them because her eye tracked so far over you had to be sure what she was looking at. We were older too, like 14!

Let Otto know that I had that surgery. It is ok to have the surgery and it did help. My patches didn’t work.
Otto might benefit from Blue Light blocking glasses for screen time , lots of eye exercises tennis baseball - cricket wishing you the very best
I want to move from Sydney to WA just for all of your awesome parks!!! Oh my goodness 😮
So many parks!! Whenever we consider moving interstate we are like “but the parks!!”
haha at first when i was watching the video when Evan was coming with Birdie i thought he was holding a baby doll.He is such a good big brother!
We were at the Volcano park the other day. My boys enjoy it there too 😁
Amazing ur kids r super adorable and very smart
I love Otto's shirt!
Aaawww I love watchm ur kids grow an blossom... An of course Sylvie willake a strawberry cake... Heeheehee
My daughter had to wear a patch at 4 years old. She got glasses at the same time and still wears them at 27.
Sylviie is so advantage and intellent for her age
Can you find some old original episodes of sesame street for the twins to watch - they’d love the ‘count’ - one ah ah ah xxx lots of numbers and letters on there - and Spanish etc - think they’d love it! And can with it with their stuffies x
I am 68 and had that surgery when I was 17 and it went just fine.
I had the same issue with my eye, at some point I stopped wearing glasses, my eye gets inwards when I'm tired but it's not a big issue.
Ooh my my Evan ur be ok sweetie my sister hade it done doctor are Magical love you all growing to fast Smiles 😊🤗❤️
Você está lindíssima com essa cor de cabelo. Deus abençoe você e toda a sua família. Seus filhos são lindos.
You'll be fine Otto ❤👍 hello from Kentucky
Sylvie talks so cute
Nice to see cosmo naughty side 🤣
I live with this and and it does not bother me. I have the same problem as Otto and when I’m tired,I get a lazy eye too.
It was Evan and he likes it the way it is. :)
A few of our kids have it!
Sylvie is a genius 😅
I had eye surgery for that condition 3 times and I work glasses forever and my eye. Still turned then some people asked me. If I'm looking at them.
Sissa Wong Wegs is the name I will give to the next spider I see.
I had this too growing up but learned to compensate as I grew up. never had the surgery. But now as an adult I just wear 1 contact for distance and I read with the eye was lazy. only when I am really tired or have been drinking does it bother me.
I’m in the UK and I have a pen pal who lives in Tasmania & is Australian. Xx
Birdie reminds me, a lot, of Rufus, the older she gets.
I have a turn in my eye and I wear glasses and I was offered surgery for it and they said I’d still need to wear glasses so I didn’t bother having it done xxx
My granddaughter is having surgery on both of her eyes for the same thing. She also is almost blind without her glasses.
His eye issue is so common and so many surgeries have been done. I do pray surgery is not in the cards for him.
Do whatever you can! I knew a girl who had this and I am not kidding people would look behind them because her eye tracked so far over you had to be sure what she was looking at. We were older too, like 14!
Lazy eye is when one eye Lay's lower than the other eye 🙂 but yeah I know what you're talkin about, I forgot what they call it 🙂
