Hello! I am an American that has only worn a hat once in my life when i was a bride's maid 50 years ago. However, I enjoy watching your videos. You are a joy to watch and very knowledgeable. Hello from Pennsylvania, USA
I sew my own clothes and thus retain piles of scrap fabric of everything I make. And now I want to make another hat! I'd be thrilled to see you make a sewn hat, and perhaps sewn accessories/decorations for hats, if you only have a little bit of your dress fabric left. Also, your outfits and makeup were fantastic and so flattering, it was lovely to see!
Absolutely perfect diction Ilona! And your own fashion choices during the video are absolutely spot on. Watching your videos is a way to develop our own taste.
I love the combination of the pink dress and the blue sewn straw hat. I have one blue hats from the 40s and one from the 80s and pink ones from the 50s. I love that one can match the blue one easily. And I adore your purple hat.
Love this video. Living in a subtropical climate means wearing a large brimmed hat for sun protection. Any chance of a video on those types of hats, please?
Oh, your hats should be on the Mrs Maisel series! I adore your pink feather hat, because my mum used to wear one in black feathers in the 60s, & your purple octopus hat. The swirly block is so versatile I'd imagine, for any age group. The use of blue & green was fantastic during the show, & the brilliant Marin Hinkle, who played her mother sported some showstoppers, too. I've always thought if Mother Nature can combine colours, I can too, so when I was young, I used to deliberately use combinations like that. The costume on this show is after mine own heart, & I just love your appraisals of them. The genius of that pale blue wide-brimmed hat echoing the boat neck on Mrs Maisel's dress was just sublime. Added blue glass earrings. Wow!
I enjoyed this video so much! I haven't watched the most recent season of Mrs. Maisel but will start soon. I have a love for blue-reds and "berry" colors, so my favorite outfits of hers are those in shades of mulberry, plum, raspberry, blueberry, and burgundy. However, the fresh green and bright blue combination was so striking that I pinned it to my "pairings to try" Pinterest board.
I wore a hat for my wedding...wide brim..soft and semi sheer withveil wrapped around the crown and hanging at the back to the waist. My dress was very soft chiffon with sheer cuffed long sleeves...lol 1970
I can remember looking at some old black and white photos my late father was in the ladies in the photos where wearing huge hats 1930s the photos would have been from
Hi Ilona! Mrs. Maisel would love this video as much as we do and you look gorgeous in your outfits. Brilliant! Thank you so much for the hat analysis; I’ll watch it again to take some notes 😊❤
Hello, I am so happy discovery your youtube. I love hats and wear the hat every time when I am out. You are a joy to watch and very helpful for my hat-Life. Greetings from Bern, Switzerland.
I'm quite intrigued by that clamshell style hat. Could you possibly show more examples and sewing patterns for this style? I'm really enjoying your channel!
I love them all but I just want to thank you. I didn't realize I could order and look and start a new hobby and making ads cause. There are also books teaching us how to do it online thank you
Another great, fascinating video Ilona. Love the way you changed your outfits, they were beautiful and also really matched your skin tone too! Thanks so much for guiding us again in the world of hats. (BTW - I would love to hear your thoughts on hats we could wear to work, on a train/bus commute. They're an absolute staple to keep warm, but usually they end up being some cheap beanie. It would be so nice to make a hat which is warm but stylish) 😁😊
An afterthought, Could you talk about working with face shapes (mine is long and narrow), and working around glasses? I've always been told that I shouldn't wear hats because I wear glasses (which have to be at least a certain size because they're no-line bifocals), and that with a hat and glasses "There's just too much going on and it doesn't look good." Thoughts?
Ilona, your analysis of the hat shape, color and fabric and wearer's mood in conjunction with the entire outfit is impressive. I find all the details of WHY an outfit is successful quite interesting and very helpful.
As usual, your video is immensely entertaining and informative! Now I'm going to have to watch Mrs. Maisel just to see all the lovely hats. Do you have a video reference the making of the green hat you wore in the closing of this video, if not, I would love to see one.
Awesome hats! Could you please show us a tutorial where you make an easy summer headpiece that doesn't require a block, like the yellow one from Mrs Maisel you've already made?
You are truly a goddess of hats, thank you so much for the advice and insightful analyses. Im currently working on a few sewn hats and acquiring vintage hats now and then from tag sales and thrift shops.
That was so lovely! The care you took to emulate the outfits you talked about. I‘d wear hats whenever I‘m out and about, but alas, my primary method to get from A to B is the bicycle and I have short hair, so a hat pin is no use and and a hat band is not a good look, especially not for softer, crinklier elderly jaw- and necklines.
These principles are very interesting. I've recently begun headcovering and have so far been limited to headscarves because hats, other than stocking caps, sun hats and ball caps, are so difficult to find and expensive to purchase so I'd love to see you tackling sewn hats from readily available patterns -- with fitting tips, please?
I'm not sure how I got here .... I am a frumpy single mum ... Who lives in Queensland - we see hats very differently here. Hats are for sun protection. "No hat no play" "Slip,Slop,Slap" Despite high fashion hats being quite removed from my everyday life - I really enjoy your channel. I love learning about the strange ( to me) and wonderful world of high fashion hats. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Please accept my apologies for drawing attention to two green tones you wore together. Indoors the same two greens works well together. Maybe it is the effect of natural light. Some greens have white base others have green base, photography makes the difference more noticeable but may not to the eye’s perception. It seems to happen when base colours are mixed. It looks right. Photographs amplify difference.
Only recently found you.I am in the East Midlands, I wear a lot of hats, they are so lovely. Have you ever done anything for those of us who wear glasses ? Not all styles suit specs. I make my own fabric hats, one day I will learn about blocking felt hats.. Keep up the good work.
@@ByIlonaMillinery I think you’ll enjoy the transformation of the main character as she transforms from a housewife to a socialite, it’s unlike the first season as it all takes places in the same year being 1949 :)
I'm very late to this video because I didn't realize that you had done a video on Mrs. Maisel but I have often thought that Rachel Brosnahan looks a bit like a young Princess Margaret from certain angles. I always liked Princess Margaret's hats which were often smaller and dresses were very feminine.
I enjoyed your video analysis of the Mrs. M. show even though I haven't seen it ...yet 😂. Yes please to seeing you making a hat! 😊 And a plea for hat choices for redheads. I know they have almost disappeared from view but we are still out here! ❤👩🦰🧞🏌♀️🤽👤
Your enthusiasm for hats is beautiful and shines through as you talk.
obsessed with this analysis 😍😍
I wear glasses and would love hat tips.
Can you make a video guide of what hats to wear with what necklines?
Great work! I am now a hatperson, or I aspire to be. Love from Sweden.
You really look so lovely, groomed and elegant and your tips make perfect sense.

I second this!
I love to wear a hat whenever the opportunity presents itself.
An outstanding analysis. Academic, absorbing and insightful. Love your matching outfits - so like you to sustain the concepts and the creativity!

Love your work and skills and that you share your knowledge. Thank you.

Amazing video! Thanks a lot💐
Love this show and the hats and fashion are a highlight!
Thanks Ilona ❤

Hello Helen, I shall have a look and see what patterns I can find 😊
I'd love to learn more about clamshells too! What a neat style!
Loved your tangerine hat/dress at the beginning of the video!

My Mum told me that Blue and Green should never be seen, but the next verse is.... but Green and Blue look good on you

You would love the hats in why women kill, season 1 is a tad lack lustre but season two is rich with 1940’s fashion especially the hats
That was such a good show! I'll have to rewatch it, I didn't realise there was a second season!
@@ByIlonaMillinery I think you’ll enjoy the transformation of the main character as she transforms from a housewife to a socialite, it’s unlike the first season as it all takes places in the same year being 1949 :)

I wish women still wore hats.
We do! 🤠👒🎩🥳Well, I do because I love them. I feel FANTASTIC whenever I wear one. Seriously, I dare anyone to wear a hat and not feel incredible.
Turn up the volume when you record. Thanks
