    Thanks for the overview on the Web Presenter issues. I had bought mine and am using a RED Epic-W with it - did a recent livestream and yes I had to adjust audio delay in OBS by 150ms or so for a sync issue and I also had audio popping throughout the stream (but not sure if this was due to the Blackmagic or not). I'm going to be upgrading my Web presenter to FW 1.1 and trying again really soon to see how it goes.
    As far as video stream quality is concerned, it was AMAZING in 720p and have zero complaints....but it probably was due to the fact that I'm using the Epic-W more than anything.

    Hi Mat - We bought the Web Presenter and ATEM Television Studio HD last week and tried it out for the first time at a wedding last Saturday - live streaming to over 30 people via UA-cam. It worked really well and yes, we also noticed the lip-sync issue (thankfully *before* the wedding) and used OBS to add a delay (145ms). We don't have the extra front panel for the Web Presenter and seemed to manage quite well without it to be honest. The ATEM is a cool bit of kit too - SO much better than all the old analogue stuff we normally use. We just have to invest in some good SGI PTZ cameras now. Thanks for your reviews - keep it up!

      David I have order the ATEM and Web Presenter as well. I wanted to ask you if you find any delay controls in the ATEM it shelf? I'm thinking of using Wire cast software with it but I'm not sure if I will be able to fix the delay. Also I'm not sure if you can give some feed back as far as the graphic and the PIP features in this unit? Thank you in advance.

      nelsito3030 good question about Atem. I have the same doubt.

      ATEM doesn't have a delay. In fact, that can be a problem if you have two different cameras with different audio delays. I pull in audio from a sound board and from the camera mics (to give a little atmosphere to the sound); I had to introduce a ~30ms delay in the sound board line to make things sync up.
      Since i'm using a digital mixer, that's not a problem. If you have an analog mixer, you might need a digital delay. personally, my next mixer for personal use is going to be an Allen & Heath Qu series.

    Awesome! All you need know is some random hair care product strewn about! My review is fuzzy but I believe there is software based mixer for the audio. You might want to check that out. I've been obsessed with the TVS HD and the recorder, but this is a really cool product as well.

      Turns out that the Yeti was plugged into my other machine, meaning the spacey sound is from the onboard of the handycam

      Which is good as it confirms that audio pass through works. Using the onboard XLR means no phantom power oddly.

    What I still don't get is what unique purpose this serves. There are a hundred different HDMI and SDI capture devices already out there, including some of BlackMagic's own products.
    Why would I buy this, instead of an Intensity or Mini Recorder, when both the Intensity and Mini Recorder can do uncompressed 1080P and this thing is stuck with a lower resolution?

    Thanks for the review but I have to say that taking advise from a video on video quality and Blackmagic products from a video of extremely poor production leaves me unsure. This is not meant as a troll post but more feedback. High shutter speeds with choppy frame transitions, odd highlights and very flat video that seems to jump about a bit. Once again, thanks for taking the time to provide the information though.

    Hi. The web presenter urgently needs an firmware update. We have the Mini Smart Panel and v 1.2 firmware.
    Summary. We feed a well-balanced 720p HDMI output from our DataVideo SE-500HD 4-Channel Digital Video Switcher going into the HDMI input of the Web Presenter. The preview output of the SE-500HD (BEFORE the Web Presenter) is very good. i.e. good definition/contrast/saturation etc.
    The Web Presenter wrecks that and gives an over-saturated output with extreme contrast. We need access to the the proc amp ... or at least some basic control of black level, saturation etc.
    The current output is worse than a £50 webcam.
    Is a real firmware update coming soon, and will it address these problems?
    Before we upgraded our equipment we used a very rudimentary £15 2012 device that took a composite or s-video input and output that via USB ... and the picture quality was better than we get now.

    How were you able to turn the camera sound off? we currently have a cable from our mixer to a blackmagic web presenter and we're running a livestream on vmix. the only sound we get is from the camera and we want the sound from the mixer. is there any way you could help us w that?

    Many thanks for the video Mat! Blackmagic did a great job on this one and probably the glitch will be fixed in firmware. How did you realized there was a delay in the audio? did it show in the hyperdeck while recording or just on the streaming?

    • @MatCooper
      @MatCooper  7 років тому +1

      I recorded the stream in OBS ad found the delay in the file there. I then tested on type and the delay was still present.

    Further the the audio sync/delay issues posted here a year ago, I don't see any real resolution to the issue. Was it ever resolved? I'm using the Web Presenter with Zoom and experience a delay in the audio when i connect my camera and mic that i did not have when using my Webcam directly in the computer. Zoom customer support suggests all streaming has a delay, which seems stupid and a cop out. What are people using this with third party streaming providers like Zoom, or Skype experiencing in fall of 2018 if I don't use OBS and can't adjust the audio delay? Any new updates or suggestions?

    Hi Mat - thanks for the video. I've been looking for something with an HDMI-to-Webcam function for ages, so was quite keen to see someone using this 'miracle' product in practice.
    However, I'm confused by the seemingly stuttery frames on this video (aside from the jump-cut edits!). Can you tell me what frame rates you were using through the chain from camera to UA-cam upload?
    I got the impression your cameras were working at the UK's 25 or 50fps (discounting interlacing); and the UA-cam video itself appears to be at 25fps if the 'stats for nerds' are to be believed. But you said that the USB interface seemed to be fixed at 30fps (which would rule it out for me if true). What frame rate was OBS set to encode at?
    Blackmagic state that some live streaming software may throttle the Web Presenter's pseudo-webcam frame rate if the upload bitrate drops. But it sounds like in this instance you were just using OBS to record direct to disc, without streaming, which should have been really smooth. Are we actually looking at a simple 25/30 fps clash being dealt with clumsily by either the Web Presenter hardware or OBS software?
    So could you clarify your frame-rate chain for me, please?
    Cheers!

    • @MatCooper
      @MatCooper  7 років тому

      reqordist you've got it already, that's exactly the setup. 25-30 glitching

    • @reqordist

      Hi Mat - I emailed the Blackmagic folks a few days ago to ask if the Web Presenter offers a 25p streaming option. I've just had a reply, which includes the following clarification:
      "The Blackmagic Web Presenter default setup is 30fps this is because when you stream it to Facebook/youtube etc it will convert it to this format anyway, the unit has the same down conversion as our Teranex standards convertors which means that the output shouldn't be 'juddery' I have personally used it lots of times setup with a 25p/50p work flow and not experienced any abnormal judder no more than the usual 30p look"
      To me, this suggests that people with 25/50 camera sources would be better off adopting a complete 30p workflow from the Web Presenter onwards, through OBS capture / streaming, editing and encoding for upload. Is it possible you could create a short test video using that scheme sometime, to see if the 25/30 judder disappears or lessens?
      Thanks!

    • @tomwilson2112
      @tomwilson2112 7 років тому +1

      Yes, I was thinking the same thing. He's got 1080i50 going in and 30P coming out. That's guaranteed to cause the effect you're seeing.
      I had the same problem when I initially set up my cameras at the church; one camera was in "film" mode, and so it was capturing at 25FPS; this cause the same "jumpy" effect.
      What's happening here is that the camera needs to upconvert to 30FPS, so it occasionally repeats a frame in order to keep things in sync. I don't know if the camera does a 3:2 pulldown or something as simple as just adding one extra frame every 5 frames - but it does result in a jerky look.
      If he had been running his camera at 1080i60 or 1080p30, that should have resulted in a much smoother output.

    I have ordered the Television HD and Web Presenter. I have a question since you brought up the issues of the audio being having a delay.
    I will be embedding the final mix audio of the event in the Television HD and bringing it out to the Web Presenter for streaming. My question is, will I still be getting the issues of the audio on my stream even if the audio is already embedded in the sdi cable? Thanks!

    • @MatCooper
      @MatCooper  7 років тому

      again thats a great question. From what I can show right now the audio coming from the camera down sdi is out of sync, this would be no different by using the Atem PGM out. That said, I will put to the test for you.
