- If you've forgotten your Windows login password and your bootable C drive is encrypted by BitLocker without a readily available recovery key, renaming files in the System32 folder is impossible. This tutorial offers an alternative solution.
How to find a Bootable Drive?
diskpart
list volume
or
bcdedit
Click on the command prompt, and Run As Administrator
Type the following command:
manage-bde -unlock D: -Password
Enter the password to unlock this volume:
or
manage-bde -unlock D: -pw
Enter the password to unlock this volume:
manage-bde -off D:
manage-bde -status D:
Note: D is the bootable drive in this case.

To address this issue, we can type this command reagentc /enable

if you have system on your encrypted drive and dont care about data then just reinstall system and then in windows settings turn off bitlocker

you aren't supposed to remember it. you are supposed to save it to your Microsoft account. (which is by far the safest option )
the recovery code is very long and pretty much impossible for anyone to remember.
Never save the keys on the drive which has Bitlocker enabled. if you don't have the recovery code then you are pretty much done for.
I believe there are softwares out there that can decrypt your drive but I do not have much knowledge of them, I found one called passware kit might be able to decrypt it. but it's very expensive..

I’m trying to follow this this guide. But I’m getting confused one the part of what to type in the “command prompt’ portion. My mother gave me this laptop. She gave me the pin to the computer.. Microsoft is called numerical password which is known as BitLocker Recovery Key, 48 digits
manage-bde -unlock D: -rp (BitLocker recovery key)

Recovery password. If you go to Microsoft accounts, then my devices and then get recovery key
What do you mean User Passwords? The normal password I typed going into the computer? and if so what If I do not have any password?
He’s not referring to the normal password to unlock windows. Rather one of the two bitlocker passwords. For this tutorial to work u must know the one that you created, while the other password(recovery password made up of just numbers) can be ignored.

When I get to opening the prompt window it doesn’t go to prompt. It’s another blue window that asks for recovery key ID or Skip this drive. I skipped just to see what happens. It opened the prompt but the drives look to small to load windows. So I’m guessing it’s the drive I skipped?

I’m in the same boat as you are. Microsoft are saying that it should have been provided when I purchased the laptop, the store are saying that it kicked in after the last updates; Dell cannot help and I risk loosing all of my data as the data recovery was unsuccessful.

I am facing a problem regarding Bitlocker.
My problem is
In my windows 10 I bitlock my disk and place the bitlocker recovery key in Pen drive. After some time i reset my windows 10 and install windows 7 due to my personal issue. And i forgot to De-encrypt my drive.
After installing Windows 7. I am unable to open my disk. Having Recovery Key and copy it to PC but it says

After leaving diskpart, what did u enter after "manage-" I can't see the letters if it's cdm or wat?
Manage-bde -unlock (the location of your windows sometimes is C: or D:)

Hi Brother, You can use a bootable Windows 10 or 11 installation media to access Command Prompt (CMD) via Shift + F12 during Windows Setup. This allows you to format your drive using CMD. OR you can continue the Windows Setup for reinstalling Windows if you think your data recovery is not critical.

What if i dont know bitlocker password
Method 1
Step 1 In Bios Go to boot options, and then select secure boot to disable . You save it and exit Bios.
Step 2 In Bios Go to boot options again, change secure boot to enabled , clear all secure boot keys, remember to load your computer to factory default . You save it and exit Bios.
Start windows normally.
Method 2
Uninstall all updates through Windows Recovery Environment.
Method 3
Perform " System Restore point" if you have had a backup available but without BitLocker enabled.

If your PC was used PIN to login Windows, well you don't have to worry too much.
Login your current Microsoft Account to find out your BitLocker Recovery Key.

Brother, there isn't a direct way to unlock BitLocker with a PIN using the command prompt (CMD) because it wouldn't be secure. You would get into Microsoft account through another PC device because you did register with Microsoft earlier. From there, you will find your own recovery password.
