This year we are trying out more categorized lists than previous years: Top Craft/NDP, Top Rare & Limited, Top More Accessible Bourbons, Top Ryes, Top Finished Whiskey and Top Single Barrels/Store Picks. My hope is you find a brand new to you, or a new suggestion worth checking out.
We all know rare whiskies are hard, if not impossible to find. That said, to complement my other Top of 2023 videos I wanted one specific to rare release bottles, so that the title explicitly states my understanding that these aren't going to be common come by bottles. Hopefully this is insightful to folks who are curious how I'd rank some of the hard-to-find releases in 2023.
This list is obviously my opinion only - but I would love to hear what some of your favorite ryes have been down in the comments.

Definitely do a review of the KoK. Just cracked barrel 33 of this year and it might be the best I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even pick out notes on it. Did a side by side with GTS 2020.
Great list, but you have to move that backlight closer and lower pointing up, your blinding me bro.
Sorry! Just left it where I keep it for photography. I have a slew of new lights to unpack in the studio though so it’ll look different come next video.

Dude you are the best at reviewing whiskies. Please keeping making videos… been waiting months for this video after watching all of your other videos. On a side note, I saw your comment about the 2023 bracket line… you have any thoughts on the pappy line? If I am sitting somewhere and have options to drink.. I wish I knew how pappy stacked up with btac and your rare and limited list. Thanks again!
For the first time I was able to find this at MSRP with the help of friends but this KOK is amazing!!! This holds up to its hype!!!

My number one is my 2023 GTS. After 3 years of developing relationships, collecting and hunting , I got one for an acceptable price. If you live outside of Kentucky, KOK is impossible at a reasonable price. It’s a dream bottle. Someday…..cheers.

Great selections…enjoyed the video and agree on most. I would add Stagg, Old Forrester Birthday and Wild Turkey 12 yr (Japan Release).
That WT12 was my top bottle last year! Fantastic stuff. Truthfully, I don’t even know if I tried any of the Stagg batches this year.
Brian great list. All I’m gonna say is; blind these with Disco 3,4 & 11 as a control. The real KoK came out of 1500 Parkway this year. Cheers!

Are you spilling the tea that Michter's is sourced from Old Forester? Living outside of Kentucky, I know finding most allocated bottles is not an option without making some great effort or cost. Still I enjoy hearing about what bottles made this list this year.
Great call, I realized that in editing I should probably not have had that presumption. Though, I think it is presumed often the older Michter’s stock is BF (so this is me using that same presumption). If it isn’t, it certainly shares similar veins.
Yeah...WT keeps increasing the prices to slow down the supply/demand chain. They were saying that they weren't going to do what BT is doing with putting out more of their products...they want to keep the amount the same...but increase the prices. That Russel's 15 year is going to be outrageously priced when it comes out!
Great bottles! Curious, any reason why no BTACs? Is your list what you got your hands on or tried only? Or they really weren’t as good this year?
Great observation - I’ve tried them all and debated doing a review on the set but, overall I thought all but Eagle Rare were down from past years. I did contemplate putting ER in, but not having one myself, being limited in my sample of it, and then it did fall off a bit in the longer it just didn’t make the cut for me. Really great bottle though. That said, it’s still BTAC. If you have the chance to get one at retail they are great bottles…but if someone was going to trade or go secondary I suggest past releases.

These were all picked up from theirs respective distilleries aside from Four Roses (liquor store by my house) and King of Kentucky (Costco).
