Spot on Veronica, for not inserting an ad after 10 sec's. I must have killed hundreds of vids that hit me with an ad so early. Right then, right there! Some kind of a video grabber that is able to show the boot process would be a nice advantage. You just plug the grabber into USB port in the machine where you are streaming with OBS or other software for streaming. Connect the HDMI cable to grabber and to a machine that you are booting up and that's it.

The menu system in BunsenLabs reminds me of the MagicMenu utility program on the Amiga. I guess BeOS as well...? The ,1 in the load command LOAD "*",8,1 tells the C64 to load a binary file to the RAM address that was embedded in the file. Without the ,1 it loads the file to the top of BASIC's RAM area.

1GB RAM used in an Openbox live session? What the hail?! And it's 450MB for the 32-bit release, but htop says 230MB. Still a lot for openbox - not sure what's going on there (haven't looked).
In my "playtest" (QEMU VM, to be fair) with Debian 12 RC3 32-bit last year I had 167MB of RAM usage with openbox, lxpanel and Task Manager open. I didn't customize anything, or compile stuff, just a netinstall and manual install of xorg, lightdm and bare minimum for a graphical session. I themed it and used a wallpaper, so it could at least look appealing, but only 1440x900. Maybe Conky was doing a bit more work on Bunsenlabs, and maybe something else. Thanks for your reply. :) I should try Conky in my Debian VM, I see I still have it.
Ok, so the default Conky reports 379MB RAM usage. I fired up Task Manager and that reports 177MB RAM, while Conky went up to 385MB. Really inconsistent memory reporting. :) But at least htop and Task Manager are quite close to each other in their reporting. The VM certainly requires less RAM due to less loaded drivers compared to bare metal installs, so there's that too. Thanks for trying and reminding me of Bunsenlabs. I got excited when they carried CrunchBang's torch along with Crunchbang++. I just noticed the latter has lower RAM usage with Debian Bookworm, so I have another one to try now. And it reminds me of the defunct Semplice Linux - that was minimalistic but very cute and cozy too.

What prompts me to even try any dristro of linux or any software for that matter is if they have their own wiki and forum.... Discord is private servers mostly that you have to subscribe to and most times must wait for approval to join and makes it difficult to find a key piece of information if your in a time crunch.... Anyone know how to get a global menu like macos (menus in to top bar that change with the active window), on a debian-based distro... using an feature that is still maintained?
Load "x", 8,1 The 8 meant the device type The 1 meant you loaded from the first device in the chain.. But most people didn't think because there most people used only one drive. But you could daisy chain the drives and at least according to older document could have more than one device chain.
I absolutely love Debian but unfortunately a downside to Debian is a lack of new hardware support. I had to upgrade my graphics card because of problems i was having independent from Debian but then Debian couldn't support the new card. I found the solution would mean doing things that would, in my view, make Debian less stable and reliable so i switched to Fedora. But i still absolutely love Debian and don't fault it because it's explicitly not about adopted newer stuff the moment it comes out so I'll just install it on my older system I'm setting up as a NAS

No! Administrated is just about acceptable (though personally I dislike it). Inputted is just plain wrong grammatically. "Put" is already a past participle as well as being the infinitive of the same verb, and so is "input" which is simply "put" with a prefix. To say "inputted" is a grammatical mistake that is similar to saying "hadded" instead of "had", or saying "betterer" (unless trying to be funny, when it is the mistake that creates the humour).
Extra syllables in "administered" can be forgiven. Perhaps just trunk it to admin'd. Words that get my blood boiling are: over-exaggerate, impactful, and irregardless.

Life is better once you move away from Debian based distros imho, but thats just my person opinion. Arch, Gentoo, LFS, Slackware maybe not in that order lol
I only remember one thing about crunch bang; its extreme toxic forum community. it was horrible. I hope it has changed since then. If not,....that means the distro is the same.
As bunsenlabs uses unpatched Debian, the only things that would need to be recompiled would be the additional things that bunsenlabs has added. Debian is not ideal for some versions of the pi due to the Debian choice of optimisation: that's why Raspbian was initially launched back in the day. However it will work. You could also try using the Raspbian plus the extras: but you're more likely to find issues appearing.

i was window usser i have switch to linux mint last year and all my hardware and window drives work i love it , but i have tryed to install clamav 3 times difftent ways do you any ideas i love your videos doing good
I love the slot machine virtual desktop feature.
Hi! I followed Debian for several years but it didn't install on my machines, now with version 12 gnome it is awesome on my Dell Latitude E6540. On my workstation HP i have LMDE 6 Faye. From Portugal one more subscriber. Greetings
First time hearing about this distro. 🤔
The right-click menu brings be back to the days of running a X-based linux environment on my Wii circa 2009
which chrme os u recommend for PC
Damn is Bunsenlabs still updated?
What prompts me to even try any dristro of linux or any software for that matter is if they have their own wiki and forum.... Discord is private servers mostly that you have to subscribe to and most times must wait for approval to join and makes it difficult to find a key piece of information if your in a time crunch.... I've run into that on several tech calls
hey cool stream - i LOVE openbox. I use it on my fedora installations 🙂
Magic menu from the Amiga?
Anyone know how to get a global menu like macos (menus in to top bar that change with the active window), on a debian-based distro... using an feature that is still maintained?
You're always so fun to watch lol
I'd like to try it but It takes forever to download the BunsenLabs Linux ISO. Life is too short for this... Good work Veronica!
Java is also required for some Oracle applications and tools on desktops.
I just installed it as aVM i just rebooted and it gave me the choice to install
Is there any plan to support Apple silicon?
Can not install from live
Also on a little pc I own I installed crunchbangpp, which is nice...
Used to use Fluxbox quite a bit in the early 2000s
this is fun. subscribing.
Absurd or riculous don't apply if you are effective at what you are trying to accomplish anyway. Kudos!
I'll give it a try.
JavaVM is a infection vector so better to use Javascript if JavaVM is required look for something like GraalVM which will allow you to compile Java into files that don't need JavaVM
YES! PUBLIC FORUMS! Discord is great for chat 'n all, but give me a forum for open development and support any day!
The closest thing to Openbox on Wayland is labwc.
Bookworm works on 6.1 kernel
You want minimal - Yggdrasil, X11R4, and TWM 👹. Go back to SunOS, SCO, and any Common Desktop Environment for the click-for-menu operation.
This is giving me an idea for a CDE video!
@@VeronicaExplains Mmmm, CDE?. Is there any current distro/repo that I could use to bring this into my daily computer?. This brings memories from the time I spent on a Sun workstation 😋
Thinking a little bit more abut it, maybe there's a gnome extension that does exactly that, hehe. I need to look it up.
@@juanjoitab because CDE was built on top of motif, you would need to find a way to update the open source lesstif platform.
@@RocktCityTim Ahh, that brings even more memories :-) I think that the only piece of software that still remains alive from that stack is X11, in its current incarnation from Xorg.
Whomever makes that IOD drive should sponsor you, because now I want one....and I'm just a hobbyist.
1:04:37 It's just not possible to live without a search engine.
ok
Ahh, now i know you're mint user.
I use Debian.
hey great vids, pls review NIXOS pls
I second that. Most reviews are not well made, and assume a lot of knowledge to understand.
I would love to subtitle for you!
I came here for the Muppet show.
But administrated is is just as good as inputted. 🙃
@@trueriver1950it's not just acceptable, it's correct.
Extra syllables in "administered" can be forgiven. Perhaps just trunk it to admin'd.
Words that get my blood boiling are: over-exaggerate, impactful, and irregardless.
People all concerned about AI in technology when they should be concerned about AI being used in Government and Law Enforcement. That is where AI is going to be terrifying.
Life is better once you move away from Debian based distros imho, but thats just my person opinion. Arch, Gentoo, LFS, Slackware maybe not in that order lol
I only remember one thing about crunch bang; its extreme toxic forum community. it was horrible. I hope it has changed since then. If not,....that means the distro is the same.
i want a bunsenlabs for raspberrypi ;)
As bunsenlabs uses unpatched Debian, the only things that would need to be recompiled would be the additional things that bunsenlabs has added.
Debian is not ideal for some versions of the pi due to the Debian choice of optimisation: that's why Raspbian was initially launched back in the day. However it will work.
You could also try using the Raspbian plus the extras: but you're more likely to find issues appearing.
there is a ubuntu for rpi5,
keep it nerdy
It's Memorex!
install alien install return then install Ublock install
Guys don't get caught with illegal files.
Because all Google/UA-cam cares is about $$$$ ;-)
No wonder you're still pretty because of your Italian ancestors
Crunchbangplusplus > BunsenLabs
Life is not a competition!
