You really had fun out there guys, I can tell. VERY very VERY very good shots. It's another EPIC cam shots. Stay beautiful and handsome the NYC couple. :-)
Batu Caves have always been a sacred Hindu site for the past century or so, and there had always been a temple there. It just wasn't so commercialised for tourism
No worries. It worries me more that the locals don't know their own history. :) The first temple was built there in the 1890s, and wooden steps leading to the cave temples in the 1920s, before being replaced by the 272 concrete steps we have now. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India and is the focal point of the Thaipussam festival celebrating the Lord Murugan - that huge-ass gold statue in front of it which was built about 11 years ago.
As a malaysian i felt i had to reply to this, its not the question of not knowing its the question of asking the right person the right questions, the uber driver was'nt a indian/hindu so she probably had very little or no knowledge on the batu caves indian temple. Malaysia is a multiracial country with many ethinic backgrounds & religions & races. Its like me being in america and asking a white caucasian at random the history of chinese temples in chinatown downtown L.A. What do you think he'd say?
Hi Kris, you make a great point. Our taxi driver was actually a very friendly and talkative Muslim woman who offered up the information without being asked. But, we should have done our due diligence and verified this before putting it out there for the UA-cam world to see. However, this scenario is more like you being in NYC and having your random taxi driver offer up information about the Statue of Liberty... I think comparing a renowned and internationally known monument such as the Batu Caves to a random temple in Chinatown downtown L.A. is an unfair comparison by a stretch. And in which case, I would accept the New Yorker cab driver's information.
Hi there! I wish we had time to make it to Borneo but we missed out :( We're hoping to make it back there though! :) Wlecome to the #beautifulbeastietribe! 💜Amanda
Amazing vlog, I love the cave shots, and interesting facts on why the buildings don't have 4 or 14th floor, funny thing the hotel I work in nyc has 13th floor
Things really getting sophisticated by now, awesome motel u got in there packed with everything u need, the infinity pool is awesome with a nice peek downside and a gym for a nice workout, just wondering how expensive was that motel really is per day... The Batu caves was surrounded by flying monkeys, I guess there was something somewhere in that cave, may be treasure perhaps just on my opinion. lol! :)
Love your videos! Are you guys only staying in KL or also going to other places? I'm hoping that you could go to Penang. I've heard that it is the food city of the world! Can't wait for the next video.
Oh, it's okay. So how long are you staying in Penang? Then you're going to Singapore, right? Well, there are A LOT of commonalities between Malaysia and Singapore, although, Singapore is very expensive since I am a Singaporean. I'm going to Penang for a week in December, and it is just going to be a food spree for me! I'm hungry right now...
the temple has been there since 1890 and originally famous for its staircase.. but over the years.. it has expanded with more buildings added and become what it is today.. the huge statue in the front is one of the most recent additions.. plus the development around the area as well. batu caves is also a very popular rock climbing area, on the areas that aren't so close to the touristy bits. *edit.. just saw that quite a few people also commented on this below. ;) love your videos btw.
I'm closer now to getting that first comment. Hahaha, learning how to rush and race! Lol. Love love love is the reason why I'm rushing to write a comment. :-)
wrong, Cameron Highland NOT Little England, but it's in Fraser Hill (Bukit Fraser). It's got name as Little English because of the British building architecture surrounding the town, founded by British-Scottish Colonial Master Sir Louis James Fraser in the 1890 to open a tin mine and British hill station. While Cameron highland is a tea farmland, founded by another British colonial Sir William Cameron in 1885.
+blyat creed Fraser's Hill is much nearer to KL but feel so remote I like it. The forests n surroundings are still untouched unlike Cameron(such a pity). Many of the colonial bungalows can still be seen at both hillstations. Love the cool weather.
Wow you seriously know how to fly that drone around & I completely love the editing style brilliant enjoyed the whole video. Which editing software do you use? Just subscribed
i literally want to follow each spot you both visit around the world =) I'm adding this to my bucket list ehehe plus a $4 uber doesnt sound bad at all hahaha i agree with amanda, every time i see the batu caves on instagram, it would give the impression that its at some far distant town hahaha it makes me comfortable to visit, that its near the city, i read down on the comment, that someone asked for the airbnb that you stayed at, could i ask for the link also =)
I know, we seriously would have never guess we'd be dropped off on a busy highway right in front of the caves lol. Here is the airbnb link. www.airbnb.com/rooms/13038874 But if you haven't signed up for airbnb in the past, sign up with the link in the description to get a $40 discount 👍 💜Amanda
thanks for giving a full insider view of how batu caves really looks like hahaha ill probably make a new account for Airbnb so i can use the $40 discount, that $40 can go along way in South East Asia hahaha including where you stayed, WOW its a awesome airbnb =)
Thank you for the recommendation! Unfortunately we're a couple weeks behind on videos and we're already in Penang =/ Next time we're try to make it to Genting Highlands! 💜Amanda
The NYC Couple hahahaha... ohh man! It's ok.. go for food hunting in Penang! You will love it! Try their famous fried noodles(kueh teow), cendol and off coz "nasi kandar"... also visit Bukit Bendera!
Is Kueh Teow the same as Char Koay Teow? We've had that, laksa, cendol and bee hoon. We still need to find some nasi kandar though! And Bukit is on our to do list... most likely for sunset! :) 💜Amanda
The NYC Couple ... I believe after the painting ... there was some trouble from World Heritage - however the Caves are more popular now I can’t wait to visit Kuala Lumpur for a few days after the Coronavirus
That temple that you mentioned.. is dedicated to lord mugugan .. a tamil god. Yea, and just as your driver said... its not that old, it was just built around 1890. So that just makes it a 100 and a few years old. Your taxi driver must be really old though ...... Or a really jealous racist B. Maybe I'll be visiting malaysia and follow your lead . Great vedios , just watching all of Malaysia n singapore.
Your edits are so solid! Love watching them and you guys are so fun on camera! The muffin heist was hilarious 😂 Thomas and Sheena

Ohhh, ok, maybe we misunderstood the driver =/ 💜Amanda
