Amm… Cayin RU7? RU6 is the previous model, I have the RU7 and it smokes my SU-1 in SE line level output mode 😅. You really need to get one to review, there’s no background noise, better clean and more detail coming through than RU6, still rich with a great sound stage. I use it as my desktop DAC in my PC with no fancy power supplies. Getting an SMSL AO200MKII balanced speaker amp to finally try it in the balanced output mode. 🙌 I’ve returned a Topping e50, Schiit Modi+ and the SMSL SU-1 and the iFi iPower supply for it as it did make the SU-1 sound better, but compared to RU7 the SU-1 sounds like 7/10 vs 9.5/10. I just don’t like that forward upper midrange sound that I experienced with SMSL and Topping so far. Schiit just sounded too dark and not revealing enough, a 6/10 at best 😅, my Denon AVR sounds better than the Modi+. Thx for the reviews!!
got ru6 to check r2r sound which is nice (as my previous comment ) then jumped for ru7 which is detailed master and better then mobile ess chips for overall sound balance, have you tried cirrus logic chip like the moonriver 2 ?
RU6 is fine but it needs to be in OS for 44.1/48khz material or it will roll off heavy. 192khz and above content is fine in NOS, at least timbre isn't ruined. Between the RU7 and RU6 in OS vs DSD 128 it's indistinguishable for an "upgrade" unless you NEED that line out voltage... I have a mojo2 as well as the RU6 and BTR7 so both RU's are redundant... trying to get rid of my RU6.
This product occasionally goes on sale for $189, at which point it is an *incredible* buy. Yes, the Mojo is better overall but you basically cannot find it for less than full price $650. Then you have to consider its size and need for charging, which isn't the case for FC6.
Thank you! One of the best DAC reviews i have seen so far. I would much appreciate a comparison of the FC6 with the Cayin Ru7 and maybe again to Mojo. Because you said the FC6 has such a grant soundstagebut did not compare to Mojo in terms of soundstage, so this would be interesting again, as i am searching for the deepest soundstage with best layering.
I have the FC6, RU6, and RU7. In terms of technicalities, bass and power, none will compete the Mojo 2. Probably because it has battery. I do prefer the timbre of the dongles, though (Mojo sounds a little sterile to me). However, the RU7 balanced line out paired with the Astell&Kern PA10 amp is a different story. That combo sounds like the bees knees. RU6 nor FC6 have the same magic when paired with the amp.
@iiWiReviews is it time we separated the DAC & Op-Amp? The portable dac as a component that feeds an op-amp of our choice. This way we get the best of both worlds. Need more power, get a bigger opamp device.
Thank you for making me discover Gianluigi Trovesi, beautiful! I'd love to have more of an audiophile experience but I'm on a bit of a low budget. Would you have any recommendations for a music service and DAC that I could use with both my iPhone and iMac?
I don't really get portable DAC's for audiophiles. When I am out I usually don't listen to music and when I do there is usually so much background noise that any low noise floor the DAC offers is anihilated by my surroundings. When I am at work and start listening to really good music I am immediately distracted and my productivity drops to zero.
I use my portable DAC as my desktop DAC 😅. As it sounds better than all of the ones I’ve tried under $300 so far. See my other comment on here if interested 😉
I think it strongly depends on what it means to be out for every person. In my case, I commute to work 3 days a week, with a 1.5 hours train ride to go there an the same time to come back home. For me, DACs are a blessing because I can enjoy my music in my commuting.
I agree. I use several portable DACs at home and I can switch them out to hear everything with a little different palette. I love that. Use phone with USB audio player pro, phone on airplane mode with only wifi selected... listen to bit perfect qobuz, Tidal with an all battery PSU streamer / DAC combo that sounds great for cheap !@@HiFiMods
Great review. I've had my FC6 for a couple of months and it is my go to portable device. I've got several others but seem to gravitate to it for usb-c/apple and BTR7 for bluetooth. I'm getting the RU7 in a couple of weeks and the Questyle M15, so who knows but for now I love the analog-type sound of the FC6.
Yes, I have both. The FC6 is more analog sounding than both of them. It is warmer and thicker notes. The BTR7 is my favorite Bluetooth device it seems to have the most dynamic range and the controls outweigh the GoBlu. But to just grab something quick to put in your pocket with Bluetooth the Ifi is perfect. I'd say the FC6 is different enough to warrant my investment. Hope this helps
Yes. Mojo 2 performs great as a DAC too so it beats SU-1 comfortably in terms of richer tone timbre and bigger soundstage, more three-dimensional. But SU-1 is a crazy good value.
Funny, your observation sounds like mojo 2 is just a little bit better than FC6 as SU-1 is... and you compared mojo 2 to SU-10 (or SU-9)... maybe pricey DAC don't make much difference ...
Mojo 2 is just a bit better when I use IEMs, the gap gets bigger with bigger and more full range headphones, and even bigger when used as a DAC in a room setup. But yes, diminishing return is real.
Correct .. in my testings, I could only tell.the different in FC6 OS and NOS with 24bit 192 live music files . OS with Darwin sounded cleaner , less weight in the notes and slightly better , imaging ,but clean very clean . NOS sounded fuller , better note weight better soundstage , livelier, more open and alive , more natural sound . I prefer NOS With HDR .
As a owner of Schiit Bifrost 2 (and 2/64)dac and Jotunheim 2 amp, i wanted to know how does Hiby FC6 compare to Schiit Modi Multibit dac which you reviewed long ago.? I am particularly interested in the R2R sense of depth and layering in the soundstage , so if i was to use Hiby fc6 as desktop dac connected to desktop amp like jotunheim2 , would it fare better than schiit modi multibit dac connected to similar desktop amp.? your inputs will be helpful for me. Thanks.
I had Multibit a long time ago, in a completely different setup, and no DAC that can reliably stand as a common reference between these two. So anything I could say would be more of a shot in the dark than actual trustworthy information. But compared to Chord Mojo 2 for example (that should be in the same ballpark with Bifrost 2) this Hiby doesn't layer and create soundstage that well. It's more congested and cramped sounding.
Nice review. I own the audioquest Cobalt, not that satisfied with it.. does not sound neutral to me and too harsh in treble. Would the Hiby be better in this regard?
Hi i really like your comparison. Will compare hiby fc6 to earmen colibri. I have colibri thanks to your advise. Im eyeing to fc6 because of small factor and really good in my pocket. Will you compare the sounds overall? Thank you so much! God bless you!
I didn't have a chance to compare them directly but since Colibri is much more on the level of the Moondrop Moonriver 2 (original, not the Ti version), FC6 should win there with bigger soundstage and richer tone timbre.

Do you believe for my HD600 is it worth to buy FC6 or pay double to buy mojo2? So confused what to choose. I do not like so much the size of mojo 2. But I can not find out which will be more beneficial for my HD600 and even K701. Does it worth the deference of the price for my over ear cans? Also can FC6 be connected to an external amp? Thanks for all
Nice review thanks. Is there much of a difference between the cayin ru6, Hiby FC4, iFi hip 3 and anything else for a wide range of music (classical , female vocals, dance, Louis Armstrong…) for headphones and iems eg sennheiser ie600.

@@7in1 this thing is a piece of junk. The Mojo 2 is the best piece of portable audio gear I have ever heard.
