thought the "guillotine" style one was the one with the lever. I got one back when I was doing custom vinyl stickers and it's come in handy for almost every single craft since.
This is exactly the kind of stuff I’ve been looking for lately! I’m getting into writing a campaign but I love all the crafty things that make the tabletop a true experience so this is right up my alley! *immediately orders a wax seal kit*
You won't regret it. My husband and I bought a monogram seal to seal all of our wedding invitation and everyone loved it. Anytime I want to send something special I use it and it's fun.
You keep repeating that you don't have artistic ability but every single video INCLUDING this video you display your artistic ability multiple times in a variety of ways. Sure, your hand drawn art lacks, but your map making? What you display here is incredibly aware of scale, colour palettes etc. Digital art? Able Colour comprehension? (Maps, dice etc) Able Creative ideas? Able Prop creation? Able You can't be good at everything, but you're miles away from "no artistic ability" my man Edit: I don't have a 3D printer so I don't know what the resin is like, how well it might preform as a wax seal... but you could totally do unique NPC seals. I'm not familiar with how the software works and if you can just drag and drop fonts but even if you only get one or two uses out of it before it goes bad you could print out half a dozen. I know the nice weight of the metal from the kit you have is amazing and you'd prefer using that over shitty resin throw aways... but, there's an idea. You seem like someone who might actually utilize something like that.
You'd have to glue the resin seal to the paper - the wax melting process gets it stuck into the paper fibers a little, which is why it stays attached and keeps the envelope sealed.
God I love wonder draft, I've been using to make world/continent maps for almost a year now and i keep finding new functions everyday (like you can override scale when you are working on things and it doesn't really affect anything because vector art is amazing). This is the first time ive seen anyone use it for a full town map.
I've loved doing wax seals. Have you considered getting the colored pellets? Could add some more flair to do multicolored letters from wizards and such.
This gives me a cool idea for an encounter/quest/whatever! The players finds an old riddle or something similar mentioning a place or a town or something, possibly with a map provided. The only problem is things have changed since the riddle was made and so the place or town doesn't exist any more! The players then have to figure out the history of the now gone place and what has happened to it to finish the riddle and get their reward. You could possibly make a whole campaign around that premise
As someone who uses wax and wax seals regularly. Careful with holding the lighter so close some wax will light on fire and others will burn leaving your seal dingy looking. Also there are other wax melting options besides the sticks. Love the map making tips! Will definitely be using them in my future campaigns
For larger maps, you can dye the string length (or put a series of knots in it) and have it as a rough scale, travel for one day by walking, wagon, horse, fly, etc.
Hey, I love your videos. Here's a very cool tip. If you take regular white plaster and mix it up about 50-50 with resin, you can basically cast "stone". I've done some experiments with it, and it really does look like an awful lot like regular pebles
Well now I want to get into map making! Probably would be a good idea for a one shot I want to do! And I do like the wax seals that’s always a nice touch
One tip to go to the next level: Brush the white paper with coffee and it will get the exact color and texture of old scroll. Then burn the sides with a lighter and bam: perfect old scroll document for maps, letters, etc. I do this in my games :) (for the map, maybe you want to give it slightly wider edges to compensate for the burning)
OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the Wonderdraft link!! I've been attempting to make maps in Photoshop for my hubby's online world, and while they're good, they're not...great. We are SOOOOO getting that program!!! ♥♥♥♥♥
Ive never tried this, but if you want the cololrs of your map to look better, try coating it with some varnish. You might need to find a varnish that stays somewhat elastic instead of going very brittle. It makes oil paintings pop;)
Love it :) I'm still working on my dungeon inspired by your Crypt of Rova video (The Hall of the Mountain King: a goblin themed dungeon similar to Moria, complete with a omage to dice goblins ;) and the actual song playing softly throughout the mountain, from the goblin king's music box)
That's awesome man! I'm going to have to try making these myself now :) Thanks for keeping up the great work as always. You're videos are fun and even relaxing to watch.
I dig the idea of map making, I have a few stories written and on hold until my PC is fixed and my art skills are good enough, this could be something extra to keep it more easy to get into
Oo! I was really excited when I saw this! Right now, my brother is doing a campaign BUT he is replacing the fantasy part of D&D with scify. And you might think, isnt that taking away the fun of D&D? I dont know quite yet but I rewatched a few of your videos to help us with ideas a little bit
I really enjoyed this video, also I feel like now is the perfect time to take advantage of that skillshare offere XD Just finished my degree, so no more school and conveniently got fired from my job because my boss can’t pay me so what better to do than hunker down with some educational content. Thanks for a chill time, enjoyed this change of pace.
dice idea: make a set like those swirling glitter dice, but use colored oil & water. you could get some cool color combos, and it will look the same no matter what face it lands on. you could also do ratios other than 50/50 for more or less of one color. Would work well for a potion/poison master or alchemist type character.
I'd actually love it if you could do a tutorial/overview of wonderdraft. I've had it for a while but never really jumped in, and it seems like you have a pretty good grasp of it. I know it isn't really in line with most of the content you do, but it'd be helpful. Alternately, could you maybe post a link to any tutorials you found useful? Also, have you considered using ribbons with seals for your scrolls instead of twine? A roll of ribbon is super cheap, and it'd look a bit more fancy. Thanks for the awesome content!
*tucks this video away for future reference* 👀 Watching this while my fiance(our group's DM) is planning tonight's campaign and I'm not liking the sound of his evil laughter......oh boy....
You cld also lightly burn or stain the edges for a weathered look? I’m a casual watcher so I wouldn’t know but Have you ever considered a live stream of your one shot/ campaign? Edit: not possible rn, I know, but if in the future, I mean
I've tried the lightly burning thing in the past and my players hated me for it. They complained for weeks that bits of it kept falling off in their backpacks and all over the place and generally making a mess.
You need to be in the community. If you don't have any contacts, I'd suggest regularly visiting a game shop (hopefully one with some tables so you can have an adventure in the store itself). You'll find a group.
ask everyone you know, visit local game shops, check facebook groups local to where you are. be brave and stick a post up on facebook if anyone would be interested in playing.
Also check out any organized play groups in your area like Pathfinder Society or D&D Adventurer's League. It's pretty common for people to play in those for a while and get to know other local players. Then, once you have figured out some of the other players that you like playing with, ask them if they're interested in starting a regular home game together.
There are people that have an idea and make a map. And then there is my boyfriend with his. "Sorry guys, afrer last meeting I decided that this small 2x10 meters totally unimportant island does not make sence beause of sea currents, tectonic aktivity, winds and constelation of stars, so there can not be this city on the other side of continent. Sad part is that he is not even geologist as the others there so there is nobody can really appreciate that.
Yeah know man, every time you show off a quirk about your home game there is a little bit of envy / jealousy that creeps in. Just saying. Well done my good sir.
I love the maps with a wax seal. When I was in Venice I was able to purchase a seal with a compass rose and it's my seal for my maps :D
This came at just the right time. I've just started worldbuilding for my first campaign ^^
That "slidey thing" is called a personal/office guillotine lol.

This video is pure gold. I was waiting for something like that. I'm very glad I subscribed to your channel as soon as I started playing dnd.

Dice Idea: Concrete Dice in the silicone molds
Duce Idea: Unbalanced cheating Dice (for NPC use....)
Dice Idea: Magic Missile dice.
I would love to see more natural materials being used too!
NPC, right...

For larger maps, you can dye the string length (or put a series of knots in it) and have it as a rough scale, travel for one day by walking, wagon, horse, fly, etc.
This is great i thought i would have to draw out a map in my notes for every campaign and it loojs amazing

This is awesome. We usually use a white board but this is cool because they’re so pretty and can keep them after!
I absolutely LOVE this, this program seems amazing. This might actually be the thing that gets me to start worldbuilding my own campaign!
Well now I want to get into map making! Probably would be a good idea for a one shot I want to do! And I do like the wax seals that’s always a nice touch
Might I recommend putting your wick out in the wax? it re-coats the wick for proper relighting later. I love the look of a good wax seal!
I love this idea! It's always fun to have props for in-person sessions.
Awesome content!!
I and my friends are about to start our very first campaign together. Thanks so much for the inspiration!!!
You could burn the edges of the cardstock or coffee stain them to make them more weathered and look more like old maps on parchment.
thank you for the info!

You could use a Cricut to write the names on the back in fancy fonts.
perfect project for quarantine!
It would be nice if you mentioned prices. So people have an idea before they even try to look into it.
I dig the idea of map making, I have a few stories written and on hold until my PC is fixed and my art skills are good enough, this could be something extra to keep it more easy to get into
It's really beautiful.... ✨❤.... Helpful one for me... Thank you...

If you want a more ‘organic’ edge you can rip the edge along a ruler!
This was so satisfying ☺️☺️
So Awesome!

Ever think of tea dying the paper, or scorching the edges?
I like what I see in the program but I'd like to ask the following. Could I import an existing shape to form the basics of the continent?
What if you buy one without a wick... what do you do?
You cld also lightly burn or stain the edges for a weathered look?
I’m a casual watcher so I wouldn’t know but
Have you ever considered a live stream of your one shot/ campaign?

James Krolak coffee stains and jagged cuts it is then
@@Lady.Marmalard That would probably work pretty well
Whats the program?
Respect the drip 👌
How much is the mapmaking program?
does anyone got any tips for finding a d&d group?

I've got a question for anyone that'll listen. If I were to do UV resin, would I still need a pressure pot to get rid of bubbles?
Woooooooo
You have more puns then NY during the 90's
the ‘slidy-cut thing’ is called a guillotine
Does anyone know any free map building web sites that this poor soul can use thank you.
Inkarnate, rpg objects tiamat, RPG map editor 2, RPTools - MapTool, to name a few
@@augustinebellini6329 lol, literally after I watched the video I found inkarnate
You should stain the paper with coffee
can we get a discord please XD
Bruh there’s a town in Ireland spelled Ashbourne pronounced the same
Damn I'm early
The interface reminds me of Photoshop.
Ничего не поняла, но досмотрела до конца
