@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley the problem isn't the $20 a month, it's the people mindset... My friend could use that $20 a month to pay a gym membership to be healthy or just keep it and try to save $120 to get a health insurance for himself
@@jjguerreronz Ooh. Yeah, if caring for the pet comes at the cost of neglecting yourself, you have your priorities backwards, in my opinion. Can't care for yourself if you're dead or too unhealthy to meet their needs.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley $20 a week is still $80 a month, investing that money instead of paying for pet insurance can allow for that money to build into an emergency fund. I personally won't EVER pay more than a grand for one procedure for my animal, no matter how much I love them.
@@Camorose007 I actually had that wrong. While it will still vary depending on the size and age of your pet, I'm seeing a dog that's between 30 and 50 lbs and only 2 years old can get insurance as low as $22 a month or as high as $40 a month, depending on the plan you select, with a $250 deductible (this is with checking through Nationwide's pet insurance). If $1000 is the most you're willing to pay for a procedure, you should be fine so long as your dog doesn't have to have repeat surgeries or gets cancer or another long-term illness. I suppose where I land at is if I don't have the money to care for the pet, and yes, that includes accidents and old age illnesses, then I don't need to get another pet. Financial situations do change but just like someone saves for an emergency fund for themself, save one up for your pet as well. That too should go into pet ownership. And as pet insurance is much cheaper than human insurance, IF you can afford it, get it (again, don't sacrifice insurance for yourself to get it for the pet...that's counterintuitive). The amount of times insurance has saved my ass when I got sick is too numerous to count so might as well do the same for the pet. If you don't lead an active life with your pet, just get a low plan that won't break your bank and won't make a big difference when saving for things.

And this video doesn’t even talk about pet care like dog walking, boarding, etc. some people spend more than what all the pet parents they showed on just this on a monthly basis. Most dogs need to go potty every 6ish hours and most people spend at work for longer than 6 hours

@@franciscomartinez8959 No offense, but I can't help but to shake my head at that comment. What exactly are you basing your judgement of "a lot of humans are trash dogs show nothing but love" conclusion? Seems a little uninformed and misguided because there are approximately 4.7 million dog bites/attacks reported per year in the US alone and about 800,000 of those require medical care. Not to mention the stories like the recent one of an owner being attacked and eaten by her own dogs while she was taking them for a walk. How does that make them better than humans?
@Creative World Not to be disrespectful, but your logic makes no sense. You're giving dogs credit for not being politically divided, racists, and not mass shooting people, which is ridiculous. They're aren't capable because they have low IQs, can't hold guns or public office and aren't an advanced species. But they are capable of violence; which they do 3x more than people. Over 4 million attacks in one year and 800,000 end with a person in the hospital so you "call BS" because a person provoked the dog. Ok, there were only about 1.2 million violent crimes in America this past year. A 3rd LESS than dogs; is it ok if the person who attacked was provoked? Another reason why your logic makes no sense is because those dog attacks are mostly on the elderly and babies. That's because they are animals with primitive "prey instincts". 50% of attacks that end in death are babies. Recently there was an 8 month old in Arizona and another 1 year old in North Carolina mauled by the family dog. One on the couch, one in the crib. So you think that is ok? Like I said, I love my dog to death and he is a great friend, but to devalue human life by saying we should care about dogs more than humans is crazy and evil. Humans are much more valuable. Our conversation right now is possible because of laptops, cellphone, the internet, words, the alphabet, exists. Animals can't even form words and we've found 20 different ways to communicate.
@Creative World I'm going to keep this short because your comment is littered with so many errors, assumptions, and conclusions that aren't based in reality or facts that I really don't even know where to begin. You're just making generalized statements base on nothing, really. It's cool that you don't trust the media but there is a difference between "the media" and ethology. I'd like to tell you the science behind why dogs attack, the fact that they aren't even as smart as most farm animals and rats, and ton of other facts I but think you'd just ignore reality and believe your own bias opinion. No matter how incorrect it may be.

I don't mind spending a fortune on my pets, when they have given me more joy than any person I know, and no animal has ever disappointed me or betrayed me. 😌
It’s just so easy to love ❤️ pets vs. humans. It’s kinda sad to say that for some reason. I feel like I got more positive interactions with my pet at home (he died last June) than people around me. Thus, companies can capitalize on that emotion. I don’t blame them. Our love is going somewhere else, therefore, we open our wallets to protect that.
It’s safe lazy love, as long as you feed your pet and rub it down a couple times a day it’ll never leave or attack you. If you don’t like it’s behavior you have total capacity to prevent it. Pets don’t have much choice, in a way they are slaves to your emotional whims.

I'm enjoying my pets. I currently have two cats, one 18 years and one 13 years old. Having read a lot of the comments below, I need to note I do love children and I recognize that children and pets are not the same thing, and are not remotely equivalent. But, since I couldn't have children - i am happy with pets. I enjoy other people's children. And, for those here who say children are valuable because they will support you in your old age - depends very much on the child! Don't depend on depending on that. In fact, I dare say if you "produce" a child just to have someone (thing?) to care for you in your dotage, the child most likely will not ... As for adopt, don't shop - agree with cats. With dogs - all breeds differ in temperament and other regards.. If you do adopt a dog, I'd still largely prefer to get a breed - some breeds are less compatible than others. But there are breed rescue organizations, seriously worthwhile to investigate. Now that I am retired, and can be home to make sure the dog gets out, and can get the care it needs, I plan to get one. No, none of my pets have / will have health insurance, and I am willing to let them "go" when the medical prognosis states I should. Note - in many cases, having a pet is not an either/or thing. You can have children and have pets. You can have pets and have children - and both are totally different! You can have pets and also do what you can to help the homeless and starving people in this country and in others. Sheesh.
I love my dog... but if it comes to it I'm not getting him a transplant and feeding him immune suppressing drugs wrapped in coldcuts. that's a whole nother level of ridiculous.

There needs to be a serious discussion, followed by action regarding puppy mills, breeders, hoarders, etc. As a child of a failed dog breeder/ dog show enthusiast, let me tell you- many, if not most of those people are the absolute worst. Supporting evidence: 1) Many won't sell to anyone who isn't white, especially the bully breeds. 2) To celebrate my G.E.D., probation ending*, and upcoming 18th birthday, my mother said she'd pay for the phlebotomy classes I wanted to take to begin the path of becoming an RN. The day classes start, my sister interrupts my mom's sudden tantrum and the barrage of attacks that she spent the money (a grand more than the class) ordering a puppy from some Ukrainian breeder's website. Even more frantic now, she gives me 10 minutes to pack up and leave, while threatening to put a kitten (from one of two litters) that took to me in a hefty unless I took him. Fast forward 2-3 years since I became homeless, I came to visit. Imagine my shock and disgust discovering that poor, sweet dog spent 2, maybe 3 hours tops out of his cold wire crate where he was exiled to a damp, cold, and dark basement. He was such an awesome dog but because he wasn't "show quality", she saw him as an annoyance that she was "too tired and stressed' for. Mind you, the dog count had since increased by one or two- and per usual, she was spending child support and any other money she could take from us kids (gifts be damned) on artificial inseminations and other expensive vet services. 5 extremely bored dogs and 15 cats weren't enough. She needed a litter puppies. 3) A fellow breeder cleans her cages with bleach and other chemicals. My mom left one of her dogs there for breeding purposes. The irony is, the poor dog came back with his nuts chemically burned and he developed OCD because he was in so much pain that he'd constantly gnaw at them. She took him to the vet and got him a cone but she didn't do very much else before putting him down. 4) Many of these people's homes are DISGUSTING and they act like it's a good thing because it shows they're "authentic". They think of their dogs as status symbols and a pass when it comes to the upkeep of their homes, vehicles, and bodies. 5)I have always had a love for Siamese cats. I once found an ad on CL for a disabled kitten with a deformed paw in the shape of a crab claw. Arrived at the place- a rancid, dilapidated trailer that upon opening the aluminum door, flooded the lawn with the biggest stampede of cats I've ever seen. I know better than this but I fell in love with this kitten instantly and wanted to save her. The fat slob bragged about how she's had multiple kittens with this deformity and "they always sell like hotcakes, I love it." 6) A husband responds to a dog on the couch by lifting him up in the air and throwing him onto the wooden floor with enough force to break his leg. He's also taken his pre k kid's sick cat and shot him for fun instead of going to the vet. Amongst many other incidents, the cruelest was when he shoved a dog into a wire crate (again, with so much force and indifference) the toes got caught in the wire and the nails got ripped out. Husband or not, it was her job to protect them, either by rehoming, alerting the authorities, or divorce. How does anyone condone that, much less continue to bring more innocent victims around him? 7) They are usually the cause behind the groups of homeless cats, but sometimes dogs too. When the numbers get too high or they just want to dispose of an eyesore that has long since lost its novelty, they abandon them without a 2nd thought- except to worry about ASPCA tracing the animal back to them. 8) They put these animals through so much discomfort and pain just to make the animal look and behave unnaturally: chalk for the fur, metal collars with inward-facing spikes to choke them if they pull. With bull breeds- feeding them supplements and large amounts of weight gaining food that's healthy for ppl, not them. If you like a specific breed for whatever reason, just keep an eye out for a rescue. It doesn't take long. Anyway, there needs to be more regulation/ oversight.
You aren't weird and you shouldn't be forced to understand. Just don't judge on people wanting to spend money on what they care most about. One could say the same thing for anything - drinking, going out, luxury clothes. It's not for everyone. I learned to understand both stands.
One thing they didn’t touch on is the reason for the huge rise of vet costs and expenditures is likely tied to the fact that it costs $250,000 in tuition alone to go to vet school, comparable to medical school. Before, the costs were much lower, and anyone could afford to go to vet school for a fraction of med school. Now they have to charge a lot for current and growing number of procedures which are now required to address the fact that our beloved family members only live for 8-16 years or so. We all want to improve their high cancer rates, for example.
Cheapest pet? Tarantulas. Only need to feed them once or twice a month, don't need to change substrate unless it's moldy or infested with mites, sadly can't be treated by a vet but no vet bills because of that. Only expensive thing for them is the actual tarantula its self and the enclosure. Oh and if you get lucky and get a female you will have her for 15-40 years depending on the species
Just another way to waste money. I love pets, but I think we have gone too far. There are FAR TOO many abandoned animals and street pets. It's really sad.

It is sad to me how I have witnessed people treat animals better then human beings. I am saying this as an animal lover who has had pets before. I think the industry is just capitalizing on it as said in the video. Making money...sigh...It is also a shame how I see people treat animals! If one does not wish to be totally responsible please do not get an animal. They do not deserve such anguish.
Of course vets are going to capitalize on it... it's a very respectable career.
@@pri.sci.lla. Agreed...but when I say the industry capitalizing I mean the spas and party centers for pets. I have had some great vets take care of my princess. :)

goodfellabeats a lot of humans are trash . dogs just show nothing but love
@Creative World Hi again. Can I be honest, I didn't read your last response. I kinda lost interest in conversing with you after the previous comment. I thought I made that clear. I value intelligent, insightful conversations done respectfully and I don't think I can achieve that with you. Feel free to have the last word. However, I won't be reading it. Have a great life.

@Shawn Huffman Sir, but they only like their domestic animals, they don't give a damn about the food they are consuming. It's not like they are giving up non-vegetarian food or becoming vegetarians and vegans. They can slaughter a cow or chicken in order to satiate their own hunger but care deeply about cats, dogs , hamsters, snakes , lizards, horses and whatnot. Pure hypocrites.
Sheesh.
I don’t need animals to make my day

Oliver is so cute.
There needs to be a serious discussion, followed by action regarding puppy mills, breeders, hoarders, etc. As a child of a failed dog breeder/ dog show enthusiast, let me tell you- many, if not most of those people are the absolute worst.
Supporting evidence:
1) Many won't sell to anyone who isn't white, especially the bully breeds.
The fat slob bragged about how she's had multiple kittens with this deformity and "they always sell like hotcakes, I love it."
6) A husband responds to a dog on the couch by lifting him up in the air and throwing him onto the wooden floor with enough force to break his leg.
I'm watching this video alongside our 7 year old chocolate brown toy poodle "Bentley", and he approves this message.

We all want to improve their high cancer rates, for example.
everything in America is business
Cheapest pet? Tarantulas. Only need to feed them once or twice a month, don't need to change substrate unless it's moldy or infested with mites, sadly can't be treated by a vet but no vet bills because of that. Only expensive thing for them is the actual tarantula its self and the enclosure. Oh and if you get lucky and get a female you will have her for 15-40 years depending on the species
Just another way to waste money. I love pets, but I think we have gone too far. There are FAR TOO many abandoned animals and street pets. It's really sad.
