  • An RNAV (GPS) approach to Runway 29 at PAYA, Yakutat Alaska with reported visbility 2 miles and ceilings 400 broken. Flown to LPV minimums with Garmin avionics and autopilot. Airplane is an IFR equiped Cubcrafters Carbon Cub FX3. Made possible by training from #tacaero www.tacaero.com/

    Been going fishing up there and staying at the lodge at the airport for many years. Good thing you didn't have to dodge any bears on the runway! Fun video. thanks for sharing!

    How did you pick an alternate? Am I correct by saying that the FX3 does not have ground-based navigation?

      The FX3 can have vhf ground based nav if you build to equip it. The gnc-355 has waas augmented GPS so both the destination and alternate can be based on gps approaches, you just have to use LNAV only or circling mins to determine the suitability of the alternate, even though you can fly to LPV mins if you actually go to the alternate. There are many airports that satisfied alternate requirements this day, and I believe I chose Cordova where the TAF called for VFR.

      @@EricMassey748 you define airmanship with everything that you do with that FX3 and that Cub is truly a Swiss Army knife for all you can do with it.
