  • "Revolution is on the horizon, and youth are rising with the oceans to lead the movements that will shape our future", says Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 16-year old Indigenous rapper, environmental activist (since age 6!) and the newest board member of Bioneers. He's the award-winning Youth Director or Earth Guardians, a rapidly growing international organization of young activists, artists and musicians committed to protecting water, air, land and atmosphere. He organized many rallies, actions, demonstrations and events. He travels globally to speak about environmental and Indigenous issues, including at the United Nations with Robert Redford. He brings alive the unparalleled intergenerational movements emerging to save our planet, as youth globally join hearts and hands against some of the world's most powerful industries to take a stand for the future and build resilient communities.
Introduction by Kenny Ausubel, Bioneers CEO and Founder.
This speech was given at the 2016 National Bioneers Conference.
Since 1990, Bioneers has acted as a fertile hub of social and scientific innovators with practical and visionary solutions for the world's most pressing environmental and social challenges.

Respect! This young guy is so evolved, as the ancients predicted these new kids arriving to planet Earth would be. I just brought one into the planet 5 years ago. Now is my turn to teach my daughter the sacredness of this Earth, and every living thing in it. I'm inspired by this young man.

ATTN: Legitimate Native Americans, We May Have a Wolf in the Tipi!
Hey - I said that I was going to give-up the crazy act; I didn’t say that I was going to be nice, right?!
Okie dokie then! Soooooooo, that said -- I’d had three people email questions concerning Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, the teenage “Earth Guardians Youth Director,” plus several additional emails giving me a heads-up about “appropriating” and “entitlement” in reference to the same, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and his promoters.
Is Martinez Native American from one side of the tortilla and from the other side of the tortilla, Martinez isn’t Native American, so why doesn’t he tell his audiences that he’s Mexican and not Native American whenever he talks and performs?
To tell the truth, I’d never once considered Mr. Xiuhtezcatl Martinez because I’d had no reason to, but now that I have, yes, it is a bit strange for his promoters to continually address him in introductions as “Indigenous” rather than with more racial specificity, while they simultaneously appear unwilling to reveal Martinez’s actual race and culture. Martinez doesn’t say anything either, thus, I can see my contacts’ concerns about Martinez’s appropriation and similarly, also about his promoters’ apparent sense of entitlement: Martinez has become highly popular around The World and highly in demand to do talks, plus he’s making big money via his music, therefore, for as long as Martinez makes money, so to do his promoters.
Per my personal opinion: Now that I know, I don’t like it. I’m Native American and I’ve actually raised all kinds of Hell in the past relative to non-Native Americans’ entitlement and appropriation issues; however, what can I do in this case, besides make it known? Nothing, absolutely nothing; except to tell whoever reads this to keep in mind that Martinez is alleged to be guilty of appropriating another race and culture by some alleged form of unauthorized proxy, for money, fame and business.
LOL! Donald Trump would probably shit, were he to learn that a smart Mexican is making big money in Trump’s America before Trump can even begin to “Make America Great Again!”

At 7:30 he names his tribe and then says, "..we're from Mexico City, that's my lineage". Maybe watch the video before you publish comments.

I heard his first interview... just a small child. his childhood home was less than common... plain, torn... trying not to offend... but squaller. His fire is bright, the spirit is strong in this one. You judge and think too much, brother human, do you see the great spirit fire in him? I think hes wonderful. Peace.
